@@KillerArcadeGames yeah, you know the thing that actually help me was the fact that I stopped counting how many times I need to push the button and I started to just watch your motion on the video. I was trying to do it too fast which was throwing me off. Watching your motion I realize it's not about how fast I do it but how precise I do it. Thanks to you I can play my Mortal Kombat arcade versions and enjoy playing it without the arcade thinking it's getting quarters out of me. Playing my Mortal Kombat 2 and ultimate 3 on very easy is going to be a real treat.
Well thank you so much for posting this video !! Everyone else on here just keeps showing the ejb menu after they have already done the code. So thank you for showing the whole process .. although I’m still so frustrated because I cannot get the code to work for me!! I know the code 100 percent , and I have tried probably 40 or 50 times now to enter it!! I just think my left hand doesn’t hit the buttons as fast as my right hand does and maybe that’s why it won’t work. Since I’m right handed my right hand hits the buttons super fast while my left hand seems to just be a bit slower. So irritating cause I am doing it pretty darn fast, but still nothing!! Any tips? Also if you had this problem what did you do to fix it? Thanks again for the video!! Giving a thumbs up now!!
I'm glad the extra steps helped. I usually try to get right to the point since most RUclips viewers don't have a lot of patience lol. As far as advice goes, take breaks every few tries. I notice my hands get stiff and I start getting frustrated and fail more. My wife saw me doing the code and said she'd never be able to do it. I play drums so maybe that's why its not all that tough for me. Maybe try doing it slowly over and over, it could help train your weaker hand. Then slowly work up to a faster speed. Don't go so fast. It doesn't need to be super fast, just exact.
I used a stool and rested my palms on the plastic. Added control and speed.
This is also very helpful for me while running MK2 on Mame, for some reason the volume is always down way too low on Mame MK2 so its good to be able to use the ejb menue to turn up the volume.

Legacy edition EJB menu???
It will work the Legacy Editions. It works on anything running/emulating the original arcade code.

It should. I believe that collection is just emulating the arcade so it should work fine.

Yes it took many quarters back in the day to learn that against other players you play proper, but against the cpu you have to be as cheap as it is and don't feel bad about it. :)
Kevin Smith Exactly! Two different play styles. Forget a Sub Zero freeze ball or Scorpion spear landing against the computer, but freezing and spearing all day with friends. But yea, not needing to insert another quarter to continue time and time again keeps the anger at bay. haha
These games will still be a major pain on easy lol. They’re fully designed to steal your money. I’m sure the code of the game is set up to ramp up the difficulty if you’re winning too much. I also got stuck on Shang Tsung. Jade is ALWAYS pain to deal with on UMK3. I despise her haha

Anybody know how to access the non EJB difficulty menus in the Costco version? I’ve heard the button combo that works to access the menu in other retailers MK cabs doesn’t work on the Costco version. I tried it on my Costco version and couldn’t get it. I’ve also heard that you can use the same combo but at a different time in the start up menu on the Costco version and it will work, but so far I haven’t had any luck figuring it out. Any help would be appreciated!
The EJB menu does work on the Costco version. It actually works on any version of these games including the PS3/Xbox360 MK Kollection. The EJB menu is built into the ROM and has nothing to do with A1U. However, There is an easier way in. I have not personally tested it since I can't find a Costco with a MK cabinet for sale. Its using this method: ruclips.net/video/lq9FO8qhSKQ/видео.html but you have to do it during the game's (MK 1-3) attract mode, then hold the Player 2 start button to reset the game. According to what I've been told, once it resets it will enter the test menu. You can change the difficulty in each game but you still have to enter your initials before turning off the game for it to save it. I'm going to work on a new video explaining it for the Costco version.
Be careful. I bricked MK3 (won’t load) after saving the changes. It was fine to make changes but saving them was the issue. MK2 on the other hand had no issues with saving. I am now waiting for a new PCB from arcade 1 up.
This is very interesting. I've heard of someone's MK2 failing after doing it. The weird thing is, I've never heard of anyone's MAME set up failing. I've definitely never heard of any arcade board failing because of it. It makes me think this could just be a hardware issue or the emulator they use might have trouble saving information to the hardware. It would be nice if A1U would just put a few buttons inside the cabinet somewhere that would let you get into the arcade settings, just like real arcade games have.
Mine did this with mk1. Ate they just sending out new one or do you have to ship old one first ?
Once you provide proof of purchase and send them a video of the problem they will send parts. They told me 4 to 6 weeks for arrival.

Thank you so much. I used (L)12345, (R)1234-1234-12, (L)12, (R)1234-1234, (L)12. It allowed me to count to ten faster and using the 1,2's helped me a lot. Great vid. I hit the thumbs up and subscribed. Looking forward to the NBA JAM Arcade 1up. I heard that there are secret mortal kombat characters

I wonder why they didn't just include the dip switch menu like MAME has? It would be nice to adjust the Street Fighter difficulty since it appears they cranked it up to the max, lolol.
It would be really nice. I'm guessing they don't trust most to mess with those settings. If you had access to the dip switch you could turn off free play lol.
There are videos showing how to install a cheap kit solution to add a volume pot with really nothing more than a pair of scissors and the kit.

Try doing to slowly several times in a row and then work up to a faster speed. Treat it like learning a beat or an instrument. That may help!
Same here. I spent a solid 30 min practicing. I was going to quit but on the last try it worked! I noticed if I counted to four then added 1 at the end it made a huge difference! Don't give up!

Picked one up today. Man I've loved this game. I used to have the full sized version and this "smaller" version is pretty good. Little pixelated though.
Its good to know you went from the full sized to the smaller version and are still happy! I think they did a good job bringing the arcades to the home without feeling like your sacrificing much.

I do wish the arcade1up quality was better in terms of graphics. It is lower res for sure with jaggies. I have another arcade MAME machine and it looks much better.
My cousin gave me those prints, I had no idea where he got them lol. I notice the jaggies but it doesn't bother me nearly as much as its bothering others. I even compared it with my MAME A1U cabinet and didn't think it looked that different.
Modding Arcade1Up MK1 looks the best for sure, easy to tell by the text in game. The others are a bit blurry with jaggies. Not a huge deal but a bit annoying.
Wirz World I take back my original comment about it. It is noticeable! I went back and looked closer and really started seeing it. I’ll be putting the PC in and running MAME soon so I’m not that upset. I wonder if they used weaker hardware and couldn’t run it at a higher resolution?
Modding Arcade1Up yep. Funny how part 1 looks good but the others look so bad. Curious how you plan on modding it because I’d like to do the same. Can you post step by step instructions? I assume a raspberry pi? Hope it’s not too hard.
Wirz World I’m planning to document the mod in depth this time around. I will be using an actual PC instead so I can add MK4 to the mix. I have no experience with Pi’s but I’ve heard they can over heat easily and aren’t as powerful as the old PC I’ll be throwing in this thing lol. The steps will be similar though.
Is this system based on RetroArch? If it is, and if there's a USB port, you may find you can just plug in a keyboard and press the tab key. This allows you to set the dip switches and go to test mode menus easily.
As far as I know, they always create their own software and use different emulators. Newer cabinets seem to run Android OS, but most newer cabinets let you change difficulty and other settings.
I bricked my MK1 after saving with my initials. I don't recommend messing with this menu unless you want to take a chance 🤦🤦🤦
It definitely seems to be a gamble. Had you ever put your initials in on MK before messing with the EJB menu? I'm wondering if these games that are failing would have failed if you ever reached that point. It seems to be directly related to people entering their initials. I can't see why entering the initials in the EJB menu would cause any trouble. I can see why entering them in any form would, saving may cause some file to corrupt.
I've heard entering your initials in after playing a fake 2nd player 10 times works without bricking. I deffinatley will not try it. These machines are not cheap at all!!!!
The newer versions of this cabinet seem to have fixed this. If you’re going to try this, I’d suggest doing it when you’re within the warranty period. They will replace the PCB for free if it happens.

Just saw your mk3 video and was able to do it after a few tries. No problems at all, I have the Costco version. I wasn't worried about bricking it, I would have just gone to Costco and exchanged it for another if it did. Thanks for the cool video again!!!

I’m going to sell mine. Graphics and control just bugs me...played it on my MAME arcade and it just feels and runs better. Plus looks a ton better. I love the design of Arcade1up
Ah, that sucks. My other A1U is a MAME cabinet and has MK on it but I really wanted the authentic button layout. I can see why you'd want to sell it if thats not a big factor.
there is a mod to fix the controls with the sticks,, better springs and octagon gates for fighting games,,, 1up only included square gates so the MK machine didnt feel right,, i did the mod and now mine is perfect
Can resetting your winning streak brick your cabinet?
I don’t think so. I’m also unsure if it will save without entering your initials. It seems when people enter their initials, is when it has the potential for problems. If your cabinet is newer, you’re unlikely to have any trouble.
Does anyone here have any problems with one side control stick not working well?
Its very possible you have a faulty joystick. They are relatively cheap so it wouldn't be unlikely. They'll probably send you a replacement stick or maybe even a whole new control panel. Or you can upgrade them yourself.
Does the MK2 original arcade use a square 8way gate or octogon gate on joystick?? Thank you
It didn’t have gates at all. But the joysticks are 8 way technically.

Its not. Once you've successfully done it a bunch, you should be able to do it again. I can get into MK2's menu very easily now. I don't even look at the code anymore.

Yea, this should work on anything that’s emulating the arcades. It even works on the real arcade cabinets.

Nothing has been found yet. I'm guessing its impossible without soldering a USB port onto the board and plugging in a keyboard. People have been trying for years on the real arcade cabinets with no success.
Modding Arcade1Up I found the EJB code to get into MK1 but couldn’t change anything really like the others. Shoot.
You can get in on Arcade 1up and look at what version it’s running. I don’t remember their being difficultly adjustment or anything.

the reason you'd ever turn the difficulty up is if you were an arcade owner.
being the arcade owner, if a player gets their crap kicked in, they're more likely to come back to it than if they just blew through the entire thing
I wouldn't do it because when a game is too difficult People get bored and don't want to play. If a game is too hard it becomes unenjoyable. It's only fun if you can put the quarters in. Play a few ways and then As you're making progress it will begin to start asking for more quarters. But when a game is stupid difficult it ruins the enjoyment.
Don't do it, you will brick your arcade1up machine. I entered the test menus and adjusted the volume and difficulty. I exited the test menu and played 10 games to enter my initials, once I did that the machine was powered cycled and now MK2 wont load.
It’s actually only happening to a select number of people. Lots have done this. I’ve even tried bricking my cabinet one day, I went through all of the menus, tired tons of the options but no matter what, mine still worked. Yours likely would have bricked when your out your initials in just from playing the game legitimately. There must be a flaw in A1Us hardware or software on some of these boards.

Thanks for the EJB menu tutorial. I do have one question. I've read on other youtube comments and forums that their MK2 will NOT boot up and shows a blank screen after EJB adjustment. I am afraid to make changes because I don't want it to go blank on me. Have you made multiple changes to where you don't have that issue? I plan to adjust only the difficulty and volume... but I've read too many instances where their MK2 crapped out...... please advise.
It’s a possibility. It’s unknown if it’s directly related to the EJB menu and saving or if it was going to happen if you ever got to save your initials while playing the game normally. I’ve done it at least 10 times during the making of this video and when making sure it actually worked before shooting the video. It seems some are just unlucky. Anyone who’s said it does happen to them say A1U is sending them a replacement board for free.
