I've been delaying gratification for a LONG time waiting to watch this video on THIS specific day, April 17, 2024, the 160th anniversary of the commissioning of the CSS Albemarle into the C.S. Navy on April 17, 1864. I have to commend you on this excellent video. I know it has been a while since I've communicated, and I know you have been inundated with requests to create videos on this ship or that ship, but I'd just like to lend my support to those that have requested a video on the CSS Tennessee and her role in the Battle of Mobile Bay. Thanks for all the work you are doing!

Cushing's brother, Alonzo, was an even MORE famous hero of the Civil War. He died commanding his artillery against Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg and received the Medal of Honor from President Obama over 130 years after his death. A 2nd brother also died a hero leading his men away from an Apache ambush in America's Southwest.

I am a resident of Plymouth. The story is that in the battle of Albemarle sound the stack on the ram was so full of holes that it would not draw. The rebs put a side of bacon in the boiler and the heat generated by the grease gave the ship enough power to get back up river to Plymouth.

Fascinating. A brave ship. How ingenious that though she only had two guns, each had three gun ports. So instead of a revolving turret, the Albemarle had a revolving gun platform, that could point the weapon forward, left or right. When both the fore and aft guns pointed left, eg, it would be a broadside.

Most Civil War history revolves around land battles, but the TRUE & DECISIVE war took place on the water !
The US Navy's ability to successfully blockade the South eventually choked off vital supplies from Europe.
Had the South been able to cripple the US Navy early in the war, a totally different outcome could have evolved.

It's called "Swamp Fox" and is about Confederate General M.J. Thompson. There are at least a couple of videos here on You tube featuring the entire song. You DO have to specifically look up the song about Gen. Thompson though, as there is another song by the same title about Revolutionary War general Francis Marion who also had the nickname "Swamp Fox".
