I have listened to virtually all the great trumpeters who have recorded. No one plays Hayden or Hummel like Gerard Schwatz. Malcolm McNab is probably the greatest trumpet player that ever lived but there was only one Bobby Hackett. God how I miss his sound.

You know? I'm in Argentine. Here, our best trumpeters is Fats Fernandez. And when I listen Fats and Bobby there is an emotion I cannot describe.

A talent like Bobby Hackett only comes around once in awhile....too bad.

Perhaps the cornet isn't as brilliant and full-bodied as a trumpet, but it's subtly of expression and nuanced tonal qualities do sound better with this selection of songs.
