"Gears up the dragon with some sweet Jordans." I laughed pretty hard on that one!
That Titania opening, dang...
Yeah I was pretty happy with my opening hand. I made a pretty major mistake on turn 2 which cost me the victory I think.
Flying Toaster What mistake did you make?
@@plain6677 I forgot to level up Joraga on turn 2, which would have given me 2 more mana to play with on turn 3 and allow me to tutor and cast Regal Force before the Damnation. Having a full hand would have allowed me to recover very easily.
Flying Toaster Yes but we can all guess the pressure of playing under camera. Also you could have negotiated after the board wipe to show you were not a threat anymore
@@plain6677 I tried. The Skittles player just really wanted to get a kill, he didn't care about winning the game. Just wanted to do something relevant, which I totally understand. The rest of the hate came from Vivaectis and he gets to pop one permanent from each player, so of course he targeted the good stuff I had left, it's the smart move to make.
10:20
Vaevictus destroys all permanents at the same time and puts permanents from top of library at the same time as well. There is not be action in between, like resolving Journey to Eternity trigger. Thus, when Nick puts Primordial onto the battlefield, Grave Titan is still in graveyard at that moment and is a legal target that Nick could've reanimated instead of Max doing that.
Was just checking to see who else had noticed it. Very easy mistake to make, it can get complicated as triggered abilites all go on the stack, as it's table etiquette to sorta go around one at a time, but that is unintuitive relative to the order of the stack
Good to know! Thank you for pointing that out. I'll try and keep it in mind moving forward.
This was quite an intense game of commander and that first turn from Joel was actually s-tier.
If not for that Damnation, this was about to be a double feature video.
Also, that Gyrus deck gave me ideas on how to build it. Never really liked it, but I'm willing to try after seeing that
I still don't like the fact that you only get a token, and only for one combat step. And I'm on the same boat as Muddstah: my Jund commander will always be Prossh.
Never forget Adun Oakenshield was the original Jund graveyard commander! I feel like people forget about him
He's too slow and frail, sadly.
Make sure you put token doublers in so you get permanent tokens.
That doesn't work. Both tokens are still created by Gyrus's ability, so both will be exiled.
The only way to keep the tokens is to end the turn (Sundial of the Infinite) or counter the end of combat trigger. Or, you could use a populate effect to make a copy of the token; that one won't be exiled.
Seeing Skithirix at the table always makes me nervous! Another great game Muddstah! 😁
Which is probably why Rakdos went for him.
Maybe a bit of an overextension, but that has to be some of the spiciest mono-green play I’ve ever seen
Thank you! Though my deck usually doesn't collapse to a single board wipe like that but it happens.
I've been waiting for Skithiryx for a while. The very first legendary creature I owned.
It was the first Commander deck I ever built, and I loved him. So happy they are reprinting him. I plan on rebuilding that deck now. lol
@@shadowshandbro 1 year later so did you rebuild it?
Only just found this channel but was so surprised to see my local game store mentioned! I love Flipside gaming and I visit the Clifton Park location frequently!! Loved the video and subscribed to the channel. Keep up the great work!
I like seeing non comp edh decks beat comp edh decks, shows that in magic every deck has a chance! Love the deck Joel!
I always cheer for Titania decks lol. The superior lands-matter commander! Definitely one of the most consistent, aggressive, and resilient mono green commanders.
Super happy to see a Gyrus deck. Nick's deck seems pretty similar to mine and it has gived me some nice cards idea to add :)
Hello everyone! I'm Joel, the creator of that Titania deck. If you have any questions or comments let me know!
You spend to much money on MTG...
@@anactualopinion868 I've been playing for 20 years. I didn't just slap down a couple thousand dollars one day to build that Titania deck. A lot of the stuff in the deck I either already owned or traded for.
@@anactualopinion868 who gives a f, anyone is free to spend their money as they wish
@@BjornEinarr true..but just know that, over spending/netdecking/ copy & paste building doesn't make you skilled, smart or good at MTG
@@anactualopinion868 I designed the deck myself and have been fine tuning it for 5 years now. I like my decks to work as intended and don't limit my budget. I love to play a game where I lose because someone beat me, not because my deck got in its own way.
Regardless, people can enjoy the game however they like. Everybody has different strengths and mine is deck building, some people are better at playing the game. They are trying to create their own fun, so don't judge them because they "net deck" or spend more money than you do.
Yeah, when someone skyrockets too far ahead and then is brought down by the opponents, there's always this lingering revenge: people will keep on beating you up even when you're no longer a threat to ensure you stay that way.
yup, I hate that
It is why they lost, yeah keep beating the player without boardstate or hand, that is bound to work (talking about skittles)
I also have a Skittles deck and I always get targeted right away by the entire table. Whenever I manage to win with it, it´s the most satisfying thing ever as you have to work so hard for it.
I feel the same way about my narset. Once I got the turn one.
No blue at a commander table is a beautiful thing!
Chris Git gud
Gyrus has a potentially cool interaction with Ghoulcaller Gisa and Ashnods Altar, allowing you to go tall with Gyrus or wide with Zombie tokens
This on ewas really fun to watch! Jund is such a fun color combination for EDH
Oooh, i loved this, finally some of the more rarer generals!
I'd rather play Gyrus or Vaevictus over Prossh any day. Go for it!
They are certainly more interactive, I've been debating taking my Prossh deck apart lately. I've really enjoyed the games, but people don't want to play cEDH in my area and I have a TON of value in his list. The only thing stopping me is that I want to completely perfect the list for just one epic set of games against Tazri or Najeela. I think he is still top tier with the right build and pilot, and I've put in hundreds or possibly one or more thousand reps in with the deck at this point. Otherwise I agree, several Jund commanders are more interesting build around commanders, although I really just need the green value cards out of Prossh for other shells.
recommend snow-covered swamps for the skithiryx deck if you're running extraplanar lens, your opponents are less likely to run those so you'd be the only one with double mana
The most interesting thing about this game, for me, was to see Titania put so much power on the board that it would've killed everyone faster than the infect deck, if it hadn't been for that Damnation topdeck. Ironically, it seems to suffer from the same issue infect decks do, which is a crippling weakness to board wipes.
I kinda designed that Titania deck to be that way. It's very "balls to the wall" and goes all-in early. HOWEVER! It's not as weak to boardwipes as you might expect. Unfortunately I hit something like 6 lands in a row (including Vivaectis triggers) and wasn't able to recover in time.
It's actually very common for me to fully recover and present lethal one turn after a boardwipe, multiple times throughout a game. This just wasn't one of those days.
wouldn't predict this result in a thousand years. great game
The Command Zone was not wrong, but that's just the great fun of commander!
Did Max forget his 2nd set of 2 zombies for the Grave Titan attack? I saw 2 hit the field for the ETB, but then the Titan was hasted and attacked. It looks like he should have brought to zombies to the field then.
haste was supposed to be secondary in black and primary in red, but I'd agree they didnt do that much. thats why yahenni has haste. Now its secondary in green, since red and black have menace in common
I think no one notice, but Nick have a huge advantage with a cheat play (perhaps even him don't notice) at 7:03, when he dosen't destroy his Wood Elves and with this gain the fourth energy counter when Demon of Dark Schemes enters the battlefiend.
Joel should been so excited with Titania turn 2 than miss play leveling up Jogara before casting her. Huauhauhuhahua
Nice game, anyway.
That was awesome, wish I could play gyrus, this seems so fun to play
consider Jamie, defiled
love the content and congrats on this new sponsorship :D
That feel when an expensive card did pretty much all of the work to flood the board with value (Gaea's Cradle that was tutored into play), only to get undone by one card. Bonus points if it was a budget card.
Usually when that happens, Gaea's Cradle is also the card that allows me to get back into the game almost immediately. But I had an empty had and top decked 6 lands in a row. Not much you can do under those circumstances, sometimes shit happens.
What do you mean you aren't a fan of Mardu? It's the best Wedge!! As always, stellar content, good sir.
Despite not being a fan, he still built Tymna + Vial Smasher...
How long has it been since you’ve won one Joel? I’ve been wanting to see a sweet sweet victory from you and it started out so promising before the board wipe and hate.
It's been a while for sure. My decks are built for a more competitive meta that I play with my close friends, so a lot of my card choices are dictated by that. When I sit down at a table with more casual decks I often find myself collapsing.
I normally don't stand out as that much of a threat when the other three players are capable of comboing out before turn 5. I'm only one of many threatening players. In this environment it's very different and I stick out as the main threat very early on and that perception doesn't change no matter how much the board has changed. Combine that with a misplay on my part and some bad luck hitting 6 lands in a row and you have this as a result.
Perfect light in this episode. Nice =D
The Jund boys went all in on that
Congrats on the new sponsorship!
Rakdos the Defiler in Gyrus, that is awesome, awesome. ^_^
9:50 Nick missed a trigger I think. You're supposed to sack half your non-demon permanents as you attack. Unless i'm missing something?
Darksky1001able Rakdos didn’t declare an attack, it entered the battlefield attacking, thus that on attack trigger never occurred.
A knife fight inside a box. I would be crying if I'm playing at this table.
Gatineau, oh the memories! Pigale’s!
Is right across the street from Multizone.
Love the new intro! 😂
Just a reminder: haste is secondary on black, so it is not unusual that Skithryx can have haste.
Gyrus did well. Very nice
4:09 - 4:18
I laughed so hard HAHAHA
So why didnt nick sacrifice half of his permanents when he attacked with Rackdos the Defiler
Rakdos was never declared as an attacker, but rather came in already attacking, bypassing the trigger.
Something felt sharp about the audio, I think it was your s sound that was a bit loud. Other than that it was fine
I'm still trying to balance it. The acoustics in my new office are a bit off because I lack any furniture to absorb some of the echo. It'll get better over time.
Demon of Dark Schemes? *nah*
*Demon of Dank Memes*
Am I the only one who expected Evil Adam when he mentioned an "old friend"? :P
If I'm ever back in Quebec City, you can guarantee that our old friend Evil Adam will be getting some games filmed!
What kind of swamps is Jamie playing?
Can someone explain to me why rakdos trigger never went off for Nick in regards to him loosing half of his permanents when he attacked with it? Cheers!
So Rakdos' bad part only occurs when he attacks. My rudimentary understanding is that he has to be declared as an attacker to "attack" which is what prompts the controller to lose half their stuff.
Because Gyrus puts it onto the field attacking, you skip the first part. I believe it works the same way with Kaalia.
@@MTGMuddstah You are correct, and it does.
Just a bit annoyed about the misplays with vaevictus triggers. If any of the targets are gone it can't resolve.
For as powerful as the Titania deck was I feel there were some serious issues in sequencing.
I made a couple mistakes yeah.
I could be wrong, but I believe that Vaevictus doesn't target. So once he has chosen, you cannot sacrifice what he has chosen to greater good.
He does, I think? "Whenever Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire attacks, for each player, choose target permanent that player controls. Those players sacrifice those permanents."
It's hard to say because when I see choose, usually I think of not targeting, but it also says target.
@@MTGMuddstah if thats the text then im almost positive that when he attacks theres a trigger that you can respond to when the trigger resolves he chooses
@@CovalentNetworkSolid Targets for spells and abilities are always chosen as part of putting them on the stack.
@@NMS127 this ability doesnt target with the text noted above
@@CovalentNetworkSolid It has the word "target" in it. That means it has one or more targets. (In this case, one for each player.)
Best intro!
Why didn't Nick sacrifice half his permanents for the Rakdos? Kinda seems important? Or am I missing something
Rakdos makes you sacrifice permanents when he's declared as an attacker. Since he entered the battlefield already attacking, you basically skip that part.
Okay it says on the card attacks so I figured even if it came in attacking it would still fall under the attacks clause
@@joltyboy3641 You have to read Magic cards kinda like they were programming. It says "when it attacks" not "if it's attacking". So if it enters play tapped and attacking, well it already skipped over the "when X attacks" trigger.
Hey muddstah, you ever considered playing oathbreaker? I think it’s a pretty fun format and would love to see some gameplays of it on your channel :)
If it gets some support by Wizard's I'll consider it, but I'm not super keen on Commander variants, like Tiny Leaders, etc.
MTG Muddstah It would be so awesome
Great game!
Titania is just the best
JUND. 'EM. OUT!
Why didn't Rakdos destroy Nick's permanents as well?
I was wondering the same thing.
4:08 I thought jaime would get attacked
same
The audio is a little loud
God I love titania.
I DEMAND MORE ZEDRUU

No blue game, sign me up
Nick couldn't have sacrificed Eternal Witness to Innocent Blood, because Joel was already out of the game.
Heya, Nick here! That was me giving the Eternal Witness back, if you see on my turn the Reclamation Sage is in my graveyard as I believe that's the creature I sacrificed. This was a few weeks ago, but that's how I believe it went. Good eye, though!
I hate seeing fast mana and Gaea in a casual table
This was my first game with this group and I just went in blind with my Titania deck, having no idea what I would be up against. I didn't seek out a casual table to try and crush them with my Titania. This sort of thing happens sometimes where you have an imbalance of power in a table, but it's not the end of the world. I lost anyway :P
Taste the poison
I know hindsight is 20/20 but I highly doubted Joel would win after that start.. Just like muddstah said in the end, when you have that kind of a start your basically screaming "ATTACK ME FIRST OR DIE" to the rest of the table. And to be honest, I tend to be a little negatively biased towards players who drop 500$ worth of card by turn 3.... course that's just personal opinion
Hi. I'm Joel and I've been playing this deck for 5 years. I made a crucial mistake on turn 2 by not leveling up Joraga and that pretty much cost me the game. With a fast start I usually with on turn 5. Turn 8 on a slow start. I had more than enough time to come back into the game but unfortunately went land go four turns in a row after that Damnation. It happens.
If your deck is built well enough, becoming the biggest target isn't enough to stop you from winning the game. But a combination of mistakes on my part, luck and good decision-making from my opponents took me out of the game.
Flying Toaster
I mean No disrespect my man. But that’s kinda what I was getting at to begin with. And for that lady I humbly disagree. In most formats you’d be correct. but for Commander, you can have thee most tuned and optimized deck on the planet. Make cost thousands of dollars, leave no stone unturned. You cannot fight off three people at once. You’ll get a couple of wins in at first, but play like that for more than a few weeks (with other players who know what their doing) and that will stop right quick
@@nerdywayfinder1827 Todd. I've been playing Magic for over 20 years. Been playing Titania for 5. Please trust that I'm not talking out of my ass.
Flying Toaster
I never once said you were a bad player man, nor do I think as much. But if you’ve played for that long you should know rocketing off like that is seldom a wise idea. That and you sound exactly like a kid we had in our playgroup. He said the same things, built a shockingly similar deck to your Titania, and ended up in the exact same situation you did in this game. He had a super expensive pricy deck and he’d always shoot ahead of everyone else, only to be swiftly defeated almost every time.
@@nerdywayfinder1827 I know how my deck runs, I know what happens in the matches I play. I'm not "swiftly defeated every time". This game was an exception, not the rule.
