Peter, fellow Cdn here. A huge fan of you and your tribe, Tim Ferris, Andrew H, Matt Walker etc. I’m 62. I’m a very fit older athlete. Avid backcountry skier, cyclist (mountain, gravel, road). I still bench 225, 20 pull-ups, more dips, curl 50, VO2 of 47. I only mention this for context to set the stage for my question. My muscles and cardio are great. But my connective tissue is failing. I’ve just suffered a complete left quad tendon rupture in a relative tame MTB involuntary dismount . My right shoulder is still strong with decent mobility but hurts pretty much all the time especially bench pressing and then at night. My right medial meniscus needs a repair. I have tendonopathy in my right quad. So in terms of health span how of what can be done to preserve, delay the deterioration of our connective tissue. Most of me feels like I’m 50 but my joints feel like I’m 70. How about an episode on cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. Supplements, treatments, protocols etc.
Thank you so much. I am having arthroscopic shoulder surgery in January for an old injury from 27 years ago. I have a labrum tear with subluxation with arthritis and bone spurs. I think the same thing Peter had with his shoulder. This helped me understand what is truly going on.
I have had a partial supraspinatous tear and a painful long head of biceps tendon for a number of years now so this video has provided very useful information. Thank you very much.
I was awarded a grant from Dr. Barron's Musician Treatment Foundation a little over a year ago but I can't get in touch with Dr. Barron even to schedule the evaluation. I'm in New York but more than willing to come to Texas for the surgery. The New York office was sent all my information but has not contacted me.
I have hyper mobility, so since I was a child my shoulders would sublex, both of them. Recently got the left shoulder operated on in July, hard recover. My humirs bone on my left literally frictioned away over the years. I’m left handed so a lot more sublex. Right arm does the same but to a lesser extent. Good learning about these things. And I’ve been able to sublex both shoulders at will since I was like 5
Concerning acromion anatomy, it's not certain whether acromion anatomy predisposes to pathology. Often type 2 and 3 are found in both shoulder and still only shoulder is affected. Of course you can make the argument that the patient has asymmetrical use of their limbs and this would be correct. However, how come that mock surgery (basically an arthroscopy without any intervention ) lead to similar improvements in pain and function in patients when compared to subacromial decompression?

I've been experiencing chronic shoulder pain for the last 4 years, so I am very excited for this. Thanks Peter and Alton.
Fascinating and useful. Pater Attia does it again.
A good surgeon who can communicate as well. A rare phenomenon. Excellent presentation!!!

Great video, excellent guest.
Wow, orthopedic surgeon, artist, and a great radio voice!
Thank you doctors, for a really informative podcast!

As someone who has several tears in my rotator cuffs, this episode is heaven sent!!!1

We had a family doctor back in the late 70's and early 80's that was able to diagnose certain conditions by placing his ear to my Grandfathers chest.
I’m very interested in reading the book from the general surgeon about appendicitis diagnosis! Please provide the name of the book or author.

Just send an email. I want to ask him if anybody has any suggestions!
What’s innervation?
