After filming, Anderson stopped by the Green Room to visit with the girls. Our #4 was in a particularly "slap-happy" mood and was having fun teasing Anderson. I quickly grabbed my iPhone and caught the tail end as she told Anderson that he should get a mohawk!
Luckily for us, we had just filmed this Bun Hawk hairstyle a week ago, so Anderson... this one is for you!!!

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 10 hair bands, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 10+ minutes
Steps:
1. Start with wet, brushed hair...
2. Make five ponytails down the center of the head, starting with a section in front and work your way back, secure them with bands. {Make sure that the hair in the ponytails are as equal as possible, so that the buns are relatively the same size.}
3. Take the first ponytail and being twisting the hair strand until it wants to twist around itself, gently allowing it to twist around the ponytail holder into a bun, and secure with another hairband.
4. Repeat Step 3 for the other four ponytails.
5. Lightly spritz hairspray to help secure any flyways.
{If you have problems with thin hair or baby flyways, you may want to try a little pomade or hair fiber gum to help hold in the twisty buns, but this is completely optional.}

those are called bantu knots. that is a very protective style for natural sisters as well.

the correct name for the "Buns" in her hair is Bantu knots. this is a style that originated in the African community commonly used by women with natural hair. aka Curly Girls. i love how she incorporated things from a different culture in her video.
Thank you for pointing that out. I know this video is ten years old and maybe people then didn't know better and didn't know what cultural appropriation is but since this video is still around on the internet for everyone to watch it is important to explain the origin and real name of the "buns". I wish they would change the name of that video and maybe put in some kind of disclaimer if possible.
Bantu knots was said more than once in this video but yet still some people refuse to hear it.......lovely hairstyle by the way.

I love how she incorporates hairstyles and hair practices traditionally seen in the African American culture into her day-to-day hair practices - whether it's intentional or not.. It just shows that we can all learn from each other no matter what our hair type, texture, or length. :)

All these people complaining they are Bantu Knots. She says it in the video that its called BANTU KNOTS! Said it twice. But also said she like to just call them just Twisty Buns. Who cares, its about the technique and Cute Girl Hairstyle Rocks.

This is an African type style which has existed for ages... Braids, cornrows, bantu knots, flat twist... been around for quite some time now... Once the hair is released from the twist, it forms a beautiful curl pattern. U did a good job... just needs to be a little looser to prevent headaches after having them up, don't want to put strain on the hair follicle. Again nothing new here, but maybe some people needed to see this tutorial. The outcome is cute. Patient & adorable daughter.

um just a suggestion, i noticed that when you were wrapping the lower sections of hair you kind of had to work around the one in front of it. Have you ever tried starting from the bottom?? again it was just a suggestion.
