The Thai people should be more open to the idea of female ordination as well, whether for temporary or full ordination for the same reasons for males.

I disagree, I like seeing other cultures do things differently than the west.

Just for your information, this has nothing to do with the West or the East. During the time of the Buddha in ancient India, the Buddha himself allowed females to be ordained. After the Buddha became enlightened, one of his objectives were to establish the Sangha which is the community of practitioners who preserve and uphold the teachings. It is four-fold, comprising ordained male monks, ordained female monks, lay males and lay females. In fact, his own foster mother and former wife were ordained and became fully enlightened after that. This happened over 2,500 years ago, well before the birth of the feminist movement. Today, female ordination is accepted by society in many countries with a few exception like Thailand. However, times are changing as more people there overcome cultural prejudices and read and understand the history of Buddhism. Currently, there are a few ordained female monks in Thailand but it is still a struggle for wider acceptance and support from the lay community and government in general. May you be well, healthy and happy.

Sam Thean There are so many stories about Bhudda it all depends which ones you follow. Personally I say if more women want to become monks they can do that, but when you talk about things like this you are talking about forcing your views on another culture whether subtly or forcefully, and I say it is their culture let them create it. Unfortunately they have more than enough outside influence to deal with already.

The history of the Buddha and his disciples as contained in the Tripitika is accepted as historical truths by Buddhist in general, specifically among Theravadan Buddhist. Most Buddhists in Thailand follow the Theravadan tradition. I am happy to note you have clarified your position on your second comment as I was under the impression you were not aware of certain facts on this particular tradition. I do apologize if I appear to be "forcefully" imposing my views. I should have said "in my humble opinion" or something similar to avoid any misunderstandings when making comments on the internet. May you be well and happy.

@@sunnysmile5427 Try visit and discuss dhamma with the Rev. Dhammananda (Dr. Chatsumal Kabilasingha), a Bhikkhuni who was a professor of Buddhism at Thammasat University when she was a lay person. FYI: Her late mother was also a Bhikkuni.
