Easiest and cheapest solution would be to add a dowel drawer stop. To do that drill a whole in the left side of the outer cabinet big enough to for a 3/4 inch dowel and likewise drill a whole into the left side of the drawer large enough to accommodate the dowel. Cut the dowel a few inches long. Long enough so it will go thru the left side of cabinet wall thru and into the drawer itself. Then add a piece of a scrap wood a few inches square to the end of the dowel. When you are on the road, simply insert that dowel into the left side of your cabinet thru the drawer. You can always pull it out completely when you are stationery. So it is kind of a wooden peg you are inserting on the side of the cabinet thru to the drawer. Hope it helps. Great video!
@@felicitycalf3479 Hi Felicity! Sorry didn’t mean to take your idea - great minds think alike!😊💐
It's so great that your dad is so helpful & working on this with you. I wish that I had this with my dad. I'm happy for you. ☺️♥️🙏
What you put your dad through he is a blessing
I not only owned a van, but in the 1980s and early 1990s I also owned a 17 foot 5th wheel which I had also lived in for two years. I learned that RV supply stores had an excellent assortment of door and drawer catches to keep doors and drawers secure while in motion. Most were simple and made of plastic, but they worked well and were easy to install. It might be worth your time to go into an RV supply parts store and look around for ideas, even if you don't buy anything. To me, that was a toy store with endless possibilities of things to purchase that I might not have ever thought of before and solving all kinds of problems that materialize during traveling. I pray that problems are minimal to you, you and your parents did a professional job. God bless you always my friend†
You are fortunate to have such a helpful and patient family!!
Yes I agree. They are so supportive and a major blessing!
“Rolling the spaghetti!” 🍝 Now you’re speakin’-a-my-language! (Says the full blooded Italian. 🤪) 🇮🇹
Now that's a spicy meatball!! 🍝 😆
You give me such a more realistic picture of what I’ve gotten myself into. 😂
I like to keep it real because before I started I didn't know how many things there were to do! Hope this helps!
Love the Italian music. You guys Italian? Super job, yet again, sheesh. lol
Thanks! We're not Italian but we were talking about spaghetti which made me think of Italian food which made me think of Italian music. 😆 Also, thanks for watching!
Quote of the day: ‘Roll it like a spaghetti’ 😁😁😁👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Maybe you can use some Hook & Eye to secure you under bed drawers?
Your dad is amazing!!!
What’s up Allison cabinets aren’t fun to build but you’re doing a great job 👏
Thanks! I appreciate the encouragement. 😊
I love your channel! It's a lot of fun to hang out with you. ☺️
To keep the drawers under your bed closed, I would use a latch that locks to the floor. (I'm Chicana and my parents taught me to be resourceful when it comes down to it)...but it all comes down to what you're willing to do:)
Hi Allison, love your paint color great choice, take care and be safe!☺️🍊👋
Awesome video I am learning more how to do stuff when I get my van God bless you take care of your mom and dad
So much to take into consideration as far a size, placement and installation. Watching it for the second time now and, this time, I am taking notes. Another great episode, thank you for keeping it real. BTW, look at you grow, 16.4K!!! Hope to see you tomorrow for Snack Chat.
It's a lot of info and advanced planning. Good thing you're thinking about this now. Thanks for watching and see ya tomorrow!! 🎉
Great Team Work ♥️♥️
Another thought - get an linch pin or cotter pin - that would do it too - can get them 4” long - go to Lowe’s and ask for 4” long agricultural linch pin - you have to drill wholes on left side of cabinet and drawer and simply put in the linch pin.
So much work for something that should be easy
This is what I'm sayin! Everything takes 400 years longer when building a van. 😆
@@travelsnacks for real you could have been done so much sooner
Hook and eye on the outside of each cabinet very secure oh Nd id reinforce the lil screws that hold each screw ya know those lil circles of metal
Future reference table saw blade should only be 1/4” above the wood you are cutting!! Happy building 😁
I know, I know... haha, just being lazy in between cuts. Thanks for pointing this out though so others will know too. Also, thanks for watching!
@@travelsnacks you’re welcome! I worked with a guy who lost his four fingers and left with his palm and thumb 😳. Saws are no joke! And you are welcome! Good content to keep us positive right now is really nice! Happy to help! 😀
Thanks for sharing
I wish I could help but I wouldn't know what to contribute that the others haven't already suggested. Maybe place lighter items there? Like winter clothes, towels, linens, plastic bowls? Boat hinges sound like your best bet for sturdiness and quietness. Usually Home Depot has a lot of competent people to answer questions too. Safe travels and may God lead you to your answers.-)
Check into latches used for boat cabinetry
Ok will do! Thanks for the tip!
You could use that false drawer to put a container that holds sponges etc for the sink...I had some like that. Like a tilt drawer.
Yes, that's the plan! Also, congrats on the newly updated channel name!! 🍑
Thanks and stay warm!!
Try one of those cylinder shaped sliding door latches on its side.
I’ll fly over when I can and take you all for a meal x
🍝
Child safety latches or locks are easy to install and cheap, just a thought.
I may consider that! Thanks for the suggestion.
1:37 Tracksaw works well, move the saw and not the wood. Or a circular saw with guides.
How about bungee cords?
I know that your van is already built so it's a little wait to tell you this however if you were to soak that piece of wood and water and then stick it up there and then put weights down it would bend it into a certain way and then you just let it dry like that and then once it's dry after being pushed into the back position it will stay that way
Did you check all the weight you are adding?
Why are you not using ship hardware? Boat/ship hardware is designed for the same purpose of keeping them closed in rough seas.
🤔 Maybe a gate hook and eye latch on both sides of the draw on the floor.
Slide locks on the cabinets
I haven't heard will you have the outsider of your van painted
Yes! Well, we tried painting it ourselves. 😆 it looks ok. I’ll be posting a video about it later.
*Try a simple block nailed next to it that flips, to close door.
Good tip, thanks Tanya!
also it's easier to build those cabinets and shelves inside of the van in place instead of separately you would get a better fit this isn't case anything ever needs to be redone or repaired because I know that your van is completed by now
3” Solid Brass Barrel Bolt model #3BBU10B $7.83
Good suggestion! I thought about this as well, but where would I attach the second part or it? I would have to install a vertical piece of wood to the side of the cabinet first which would prove a bit difficult without tools.
🥰😍😍😍
The cabinets are lovely huh?
The cabinets and your self but look a lot nicer😊😍
Need lovely 😍💋 💝💖❤️
