The makings of a great storyteller is what they leave in your head when youve finally finished reading the story. Probing questions about the characters that don't need answers and unfinished chapters that don't need to be tidily finished... The reader finishes them on their own. I watched an interview with Aingeala Flannery that she gave to some TY students over zoom and her eloquence and patience over their questions was inspiring and heart rendering.
The one facet or trait that I did get from her writing is that each individual has their own inner voice and somewhat narcissistic perspective of life. Ultimately this is what the character Helen finally realises in the final paragraphs which in its own way is very true and I suppose quite sad. Anybody that can slip a word like "shutuptafuck" into a sentence and in one sweep bring back a host of memories is a true genius!!
