For those wondering, gweilo is a slang term for Westerners
means ghost man, as someone that is half Asian half white. Gwailo is funny, its funnier than cracker ever could be. I was called it a ton in Korean speaking classes as a kid and I couldn't help but laugh. It just sounds funny... (and she's says later on that retard is offensive, but it's used in the medical field very often to this day)

It's weird to be on this side of things. A westerner uses a word she thinks is racist towards westerners. And apparently us westerners don't consider it offensive.
Which I suppose begs the question. If a slur is said but the people it refers to aren't offended, was it really a slur?
@@Skyte100 slurs don't exist, just words that people decide to get arbitrarily upset about, because restricting their usage gives them some kind of weird ego boost.
@@Skyte100 Depends on what culture and community you grow up with. From my own experience, the “G” word mentioned in the video is pretty offensive in Hong Kong and can be considered as discrimination in terms of legal issues.
But again, maybe some westerners actually don’t care anyways.
@@einbrario5643 I can see how it would be a problem if you were physically present in the country (e.g. a tourist trying to patronize a business), but I think the majority of us Westerners online just find it funny. Chinese people (and Slavs for that matter) ranting about Westerners is like its own genre of meme in this day and age.
@@Skyte100 IMO I think that what gives a slur power is the history and the power dynamic between people since the world went global and we began interacting with each other for better or for worse. For example most white people don't find the word cracker offensive and some think it's funny when it can, by definition, be considered a slur, the reason behind it being funny and thus having no power compared to words like the N-word is because black people never enslaved/dominated and stomped on white people and so theres no real power behind it.
The same dynamic can be seen in the G word used in video, a chinese person may use it, but since theres literally been a century long period of history where westerners stomped and dominated china, the word has no power when used.
At the end of the day I reckon it's just best to be civil.
I forgot humor and jokes have to be approved by the pc council before they're deemed funny.

Uhhhh I'm pretty sure Gwailo just means "Ghost man" in reference to what Chinese merchants called Europeans on account of their pale skin, which culturally to them resembled dead bodies pale complexion. It was never a term of insult or derision. They still use it today to describe European foreigners. Besides, as a white man myself, I prefer the term Mayonnaise Monkey.

Crazy that you can see time progress in human reactions alone. The mildest chinese or nazi jokes create viseral reactions now when they used to create bonds between fellow jokesters in spaces where their parents couldn't control their humor. As a white man I condone the use of the word gweilo. Apparently it means white demon, sounds pretty cool to me even if its supposed intended use is to insult. I think I would be bothered if it was said with hate and animosity intended, but then I'd be a man and punch him in the throat. @@anon9359 It's a shame, because I really enjoy Sseth's content; I find it hilarious, even if he's considered to be on the edgier side nowadays. I was just confused because, as someone who doesn't really watch 39daph and can only really judge based on clips, it seemed to me that she was genuinely laughing for most of the video and that the end kind of came out of nowhere, which is even weirder considering I had just come off watching her react to Space Station 13, where the hard R was pretty much said with like only .01 seconds of it being censored, and she told people talking about TOS to stop being weird and that it was "just a gamer word".
Then again, maybe her opinions have changed in the year since, and tbh, if I were a streamer, I wouldn't be playing Sseth's videos at all unless I screened them before hand, regardless of whether I think they're funny or not; some of those streamer/youtuber fan bases are rabid and wouldn't take kindly to such jokes, lol, maybe that's why she stopped.
