I really need this at the moment. I’ve suffered with a rolling cycle of depression and anxiety since I was an early teen (I’m 40 now) so I can really relate to what you’re saying. This weekend I was crying about how I hate my house because it’s so cluttered and dirty and every day I try and get on top of it but can feel it defeating me. I’m also breaking each job into micro tasks which helps loads and I know I’ll get there! It’s just some days it feels like it’s a waste of time and that it’s too much. This video has helped and I’m looking forward to the week more now! Thank you ❤

I am in a total housework funk at the moment! My bedroom has consequently become a laundry room; not the peaceful, relaxing haven of tranquility I would like it to be.
This video is, once again, very timely for me. Thank you! I hope that what I'm about to say will give you some comfort during a difficult time and maybe make you laugh!😘
I am really sorry to hear that you suffer with anxiety, but it's so comforting to hear that you, as accomplished as you clearly are, struggle in this way. I too have very definite periods of being motivated to clean/tidy and definite periods, where it is totally overwhelming with all of the other things I need to achieve in a day. It feels impossible and paralysing!
I think, as women, we feel like we should always have the motivation to do housework. Let's look at why our motivation is going to naturally wax and wane: 1)You're doing pretty much the same tasks week after week, day after day. 2) Your energy is different at different points in the month for women (periods etc.) and at different points in your working life, depending on what is going on at work (everyone can relate here, I'm sure) 3) the heavy weight of societal expectation is real - expected to be slim, attractive, fun mum, earn money, be a good partner...(need I go on?), because all things are possible now according to social media. 4) Managing your energy is no joke. It's so easy to overfill your hours/ days/ weeks with things you want to accomplish, then wonder why we get to the point where we just don't give a sh** about it because we're too knackered to care!! 5) It's considered lazy to want to sit down and do nothing if you're a mum/parent or even if you're not. 6) Many of us are living our lives without the support from family or others to help. I've heard it said somewhere that it takes a village to raise children. Do you have a village? I know most of us don't! There are a load more reasons, but don't want to ramble for too long!
My point is, I don't think we feel this anxiety for nothing. I think it's there to tell us something about how we are living our lives. I think anxiety tells us when our lives are totally out of balance in some way. Maybe we need to plan periods into the month, where we do less. Maybe have lighter touch weeks? Let's face it, we can't work full time, clean the house, be a decent partner, be a good mum/friend, without SOME regularly scheduled downtime. If we plan for the downtime, it might give help us feel more able to do what our busy lives dictate.
I am going to try this and see whether it helps. I feel like this video has given me an epiphany! I hope this provides us all with some much needed perspective.

I love the skipping analogy in this! I'm going to share this with my daughter, I think she'll find the Micro-steps really useful as she struggles with anxiety too.

Happened upon this channel, just had the conversation with myself of how to get back into ambition to deep clean my house. Planning to start with decluttering a chest of drawers. My starting point. It worked in the past I am hoping it kick starts me again.

Thank you for sharing about anxiety. It really helps to know others struggle with it as well. And to hear that it has different levels. It feels sometimes that it is “just me”. Talking about it truly helps. ❤

I needed this. My anxiety has me home bound, so I often feel like I never stop cleaning cause nothing else goes on in my life. And then I don't want to. And then I'm worse cause it's not done

I'm always trying to find advice on how to manage when your physical health is bad but it always seems to be about mental health. The problem is i am hardly ever lacking motivation so it's a totally different situation. Some of this video will apply but I know that the disabled & chronically ill community would be so grateful if there was some good advice for us. The people who are inbetween healthy and requiring carers really struggle and a lot follow you. For example some of us may only have the capacity to do a week's cleaning over 2 weeks and it would be so helpful to have some advice on how to do that. Like maybe making some jobs fortnightly, etc. I get so overwhelmed by the jobs i need to do that I can't think straight about how to adapt TOMM to us x

Hi. thanks so much for commenting about this. Are you a member of the Facebook Group? I know that there is lots of advise and support on there. ❤️

@Gemma Bray thank you. I was in there but I am no longer on Facebook. It would be really helpful I think to have a video like this one but for physical problems as I imagine for those with mental health problems this video makes them feel included. I am just one person with physical impairments, and I have asked in Facebook groups etc, but I was really trying to highlight that us mums with physical problems desperately need to be included too. We often aren't x

@Gemma Bray oh that's amazing, thank you so much! Honestly so many people will be so grateful. It will be especially helpful for people who have become ill recently and are completely lost. Thanks for listening to me x x

I actually like housework although it’s very unfashionable to admit it. You’re supposed to make time for all these massively important things you do whatever they are. I’ve brought up 3 kids on my own and I actively like housework. Sorry!!
