31:37 the crazy good part on uncanny arms is a part to a b-side of fishmonger called ‘inlaws’, the part sounds identical to that inlaws track and it never fails to fill me with dopamine every time
henhouse used to be in the band "papaya & friends" with underscores and gabby start. well i dont know if they disbanded but they havent put out a song in a long time and i think its the entire band in the spoiled little brat music video
Ooooh I had no idea at all I remember watching that mv for the first time when I was just getting into underscores and thinking the band in it was so cool
If you want a fun drinking game take a drink every time I say the word "unreal" LOL Also sorry to henhouse who uses they/them pronouns, that is my bad.
i dunno if youve looked through the lore since this, but the album revolves around 3 characters: s*nny, a native trans girl whos father, joshua, is the bank teller from the first track. shes dealing with quite a lot of stuff, like a rare disease and a crisis of faith. mara, a stalker who is obsessed with s*nnys life, and "old money bitch", real name unknown, whos rich and new in town and has a bit of trouble feeling things.
(Paragraphed comment ahead!) I only heard Cops & Robbers and You don't even know who I am before this album was released (both are reaaally good, C&R was even a comfort song of mine for a bit), and when I finally came around to listening to it (yesterday by the time of writing this comment), I thought it was amazing, sort of intricate in a way. I can't even pick a favourite track, but that Johnny song also made me extremely unsettled like you said. Even if I don't relate to the song I'm going to mention, Geez Louise was lovely and incredibly straightforward with its messages and passages! Also, am I the only one who gets an itch scratched in the brain when Underscores sings "And for once, I felt just like you" in YDEKWIA?? Duhhhhhhhhhh is super underrated, and I lovelovelovelovelovelove her vocals on it!! It really suits her (new-ish) sound well!!! I really like the softer/more melancholic moments on this as well, it allows me to paint a better picture of whatever made up visuals I'm imagining even though I don't know the story well, and cuts like Horror movie soundtrack and maybe even Seventyseven dog years are great examples of that. (Speaking of 77DY, those 'pony up' adlibs in the hook thingy are kind of cute!) I agree with you (the original poster) about the bridge part on Old money bitch, I thought it was super cool as well, but are the visuals at 20:39 similar to Capcut's premade transitions or is it just me? As for Uncanny long arms, I don't know how either Underscores or Jane can concoct dreams like that. Well done, you two!!! And Good luck final girl was a bit of a heart-wrenching ending for me. I like the idea of following each cast member in separate verses!! But the one song I am truly obsessed with at the moment is Locals (Girls like us). I'm not sure what it is about it, maybe it's the production or the vocals, but they were both made to blend well into each other, am I suddenly in a trance...?? Anyway, I really, REALLY admire this album so much, it might even knock off SixImp's position for my personal album of the year, or maybe it'll be neck and neck. Who knows??
this is my second favorite album of all time. i've listened to it ten times already. glad to see people elsewhere who like it, us in the discord have kind of just been going insane about the lore
i remember walking home from school listing to the latter half of this album, and my face absolutely lit up when i heard the interpolation of kinko!!!!!!
honestly i feel like it’s unfair to compare it to fishmonger because they’re both attempting to accomplish different things and wallsocket has longer and more tracks so wallsocket is better
literally four of my favorite albums casually chilling on the wall in the back, absolutely KILLER taste. killjoy, nurture, worlds and fishmonger are so SO good
Definitely better than fishmonger imo. Absolutely fantastic album Definitely top 5 albums of this year. Been on loop since it came out. I love it very much
It’s so fantastic. Atm I agree, I think the song writing pushes it over the edge as the better album for me. Def gonna be in my top 5 by the end of the year
2023 is a good year in music. New underscores, new 100 gecs (and a dj mix from them), new six impala and rob feathers debut album EDIT: LETS NOT FORGET THE NEW LEROY ALBUM
the chicago show is sold out but the detroit show on oct 10th is not yet if you're in ohio! (april also announced that fishmonger AND fearmonger vinlys will be available at the shows!!) I literally cannot wait to see this live, album of the year, album of the decade even.
Henhouse actually has other work under the name henson popa, which is great, especially perpetual and if you'll have me. It's not like geez louis but it's still great imo. Fun video :)
I wanna see you redo the ranking video with these (and maybe some non-spotify tracks like city with no wind and my guy (corporate shuffle) and maybe even the original version of gunk (maybe even the fresh catch songs and her milkfish stuff))
its so god damned insane we got some of the best albums of the year (hellmode, wallsocket, javelin, and census designated) were released within weeks of each other
I'm not really a huge fan of some of the slower songs (not that they are bad, they're just not for me)... But Locals, Johnny Johnny Johnny, and Old Money Bitch are fire. Especially Johnny... that shit still makes my skin crawl despite listening to it on repeat for days lol
Better than fishmonger? No. Not at all. What i love about this album is how its able to serve up bangers that are on the same level, if not better, than the fishmonger ones that slap so incredibly hard that all center around a hyperfocused lyrical theme in the Wallsocket ARG, but the same amount of time has NOT been put into the sequencing or quality of the songs that aren't slappers which is crazy to believe, given how fishmonger is probably one of the best sequenced albums I've heard based solely upon where every song is in the specific tracklist. Cops and robbers, girls like us, johnny johnny johnny, old money, even Geez Louise are HITS. Everything else is debatable, but i think the biggest flaw this album had was how long it felt. Yeah going into it knowing it'll be almost an hour will do that but even some of the songs that are 3 minutes feel like forever imo, and that's coming from someone who thinks Dry land is in the top 3 fishmonger songs.
Yeah, honestly a pretty reasonable take. I think that the track sequencing on fishmonger is extremely underrated. Idk if you saw on underscores’ Instagram story, but she said that she made many, many tracks trying to find that perfect track 2 in the tracklist for wallsocket. There are a few lulls in the tracklist, but I think the writing more than makes up for those lulls. This album might not bang as hard and is probably worse to throw on in the background, but when it comes to sitting down and providing your full attention, I think wallsocket has the edge.
i think wallsocket is 'objectively' better album but i still really like fishmonger because of nostalgia. so i have a hard time choosing one over the other
The only thing I can remember from that blur was a brakence song leak. I made the decision recently to blur my youtube recommended section on music reaction videos as I don't want to accidentally promote something that I might not support. Takes me barely any time to do at all with no downsides. Idk if you were expecting a serious response, but I wanted to provide one just in case!
As a christian too, I agree with everything you said about Geez Louise! Other than the g-dammits, i belt every word and mean it (just don't want to take the lord's name in vain y'know 😅)
i still like fishmonger a lot more even tho this is still fire For me every single song in fishmonger is a hit and the album just has more variety and uniqueness (the fish song top 5 songs ever)
Ooh, good question! She's been really busy with work so I haven't tried bothering her for a bit, and the next album we were gonna listen to was Kero Kero Bonito - Time 'n" Place. Probably after we film that, I'd LOVE to hear her thoughts on some of the tracks, since they have such good writing.
Fishmonger is a better album as a more complete work. The sequencing and pacing is literally perfect for how long of an album it is, yet it feels like it goes through so many genres, themes, ideas effortlessly. Wallsocket, on the contrary, really does seem to rely heavily on Fishmonger's success. It feels like it was going for a similar sequencing (more consistent "bangers" with more "mellow" tracks interspersed between them, even a 7 minute long song with high energy and a feature that slowly fades into a more ambient track is carried over) so as to remind you that Fishmonger is indeed an album that exists. Perhaps I'm being too cynical, as I understand that these albums had very different thought processes behind their creation, but as someone who hates the "lore" of underscores, this album is very hard for me to appreciate compared to Fishmonger or even earlier works like Skincare. 6/10 in my opinion, but perhaps it'll grow on me. tldr, singles are better than fishmonger's, but fishmonger is a better complete work
@@Quirkay i really like the singles (except ydekwia, its fine but not really my thing) and my guy (corparate shuffle) was also amazing but that track was only on a secret site that was meant to have lore

It's beautiful to see how much Underscores has improved. Really underrated artist.

PLEASE LISTEN TO THE DIRECTORS CUT!!! All of the songs there are 10/10s, and make it probably my favorite album ever
Yeah I flipped my shit when I heard Kinkos come in during Uncanny long arms
Such a cool little nod to the past era, sooooo good

I’ve looked into it a little bit, it really is cool to see the attention to detail that April put into the writing and concept of the album!
