the heaven like perfection is what caught my attention and now im fixated on seeing other peoples reaction. this is the 15th reaction video i seen so far and i honestly never tire of them.
It isn’t layered. Kevin, the guy singing in falsetto before the climax, is beatboxing at all other times. Hearing him work live is something ELSE. They played Aus *just* before the Rona hit.
@@tylersprouse6861 I really miss Avi’s heavy lifting in the rhythm section. Don’t get me wrong, love Matt’s voice - but Avi definitely brought a lot more than just a bass vocal line.
@@reneepope-munro8115 True. Bass for bass, Scott did sometimes carried the bass line for Avi (and Matt) do some front vocals, but Avi's voice have a special tone by itself. That's why he does so well in his solo carrier
You don’t sound like you have listened to much Pentatonix, so you probably didn’t realize that Kevin the beat boxer sang a very nice tenor lead near the end. All of the group have amazing talent, but Kevin has probably the most musical talent. He’s a Yale graduate where he was first chair cello. He played sax at Carnegie Hall as a teenager, and another instrument I can’t remember on another occasion at Carnegie Hall. He occasionally gets other opportunities to sing with the group.
CELLO. He played cello at Carnegie Hall. He was discovered for the group because of his viral video of himself cello-boxing. He and Avi met up with the trio, 1 day before the Sing Off.
I was a liturgical dancer/choreographer and in my later years of performing heard this song. To me, it screamed to be "danced". Many of you will turn up your nose at the thought of "dancing" in church but think of it this way; as a songwriter or poet uses words, a liturgical dancer creates movements to enhance the words and music. It brings the Gospel to life. At the time, my youngest daughter (16) and I created movement to this piece. She, in essence, was "Mary". I was "Mary's mother" and thus, Jesus was my "grandson" in the worldly sense of the world. Our movements not only brought Mary to see the full extent of her role in history, but we were able to preach the foretold message of the coming Messiah. Listen again to the lyrics and allow yourself to envision physically how to take in the story of "Mary, Did You Know?"
I've heard many reactions to this, and yours is one of the best. It is an honest reaction, and I love when singers react, because you understand how difficult and amazing they and the arrangement are. Looking forward to more PTX reactions. Some suggestions: Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, The First Noel and White WInter Hymnal.
I totally agree with you about their nuances, swells and emoting. I’m a vocal coach and I like to tell my students that 10 drum solos in a song would be overkill. There is a lot to say about building up an ambiance, to let the listener wait and anticipate, to not be in people’s face all the time. To me, PTX’s strength is in always making the song the star. I always feel like they are at the service of the song. Great reaction. Thank you. 🤗
I’ve loved this song since it came out, loved the reaction!, You should hear their new one Amazing Grace, its unbelievable! This is just a little bit of what these guys can do, they are amazing!
PTX release a Christmas album almost every year, so you have a very large number of styles to choose from should you want to do more. There's the lyric-less "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" which is one of their Grammy winners, I believe, to the Grinch and everything in between. More recently they have done a remarkable version of the normally boring "12 Days of Christmas", or a stunning cover (the video is equally stunning) of "Amazing Grace/My Chains My Chains Are Gone" where Kirstin and Kevin set a bagpipe-like background drone at the start. Angelina Jordan also has a number of Christmas videos. One which I especially like (if you can ignore the background noise of chairs being moved) is her and the well-known Swedish musician, Staffan William-Olsson jamming just prior to performing a Christmas concert. She's leaning on the piano like many folks imagine she must have done in several of her previous lives 😉. She hits a note that Staffan isn't expecting and blows him away. She doesn't repeat that in the concert itself. "When You Wish Upon a Star": ruclips.net/video/R5IvkHBfF38/видео.html
Mary Did You Know is my favourite Christmas song from Pentatonix, even after all these years and multiple great albums of Christmas music. It was very interesting to hear your analysis from the viewpoint of a singer. Thanks for the reaction. ;1
PTX recommendations for the holiday: Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone); Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (their second Grammy); Silent Night (recorded live in a church vestibule); Oh Come All Ye Faithful (probably the most original cover you'll ever hear). There are dozens and dozens more, but those are my favorites at the moment. Matt (the new bass as of 2018) is in Amazing Grace, but Avi (the original bass) is in the others.
Like angels. Love it. I also like when they do Hallelujah. May I also recommend a totally a different Hallelujah with Carri Underwood and John Legend. It is a Christmas Song It will give you goosebumps.
Here are my favorites by Pentatonix: Carol of the Bells (Christmas) (14 November 2012) The Wizard of Ahhhs by Todrick Hall ft. Pentatonix (16 July 2013) Daft Punk Medley (4 November 2013 Grammy winner) Mary, Did You Know? (Christmas) (11 November 2014) Hallelujah (Christmas) (21 October 2016) Bohemian Rhapsody (7 April 2017) Matt replaces Avi as bass (22 June 2017) Havana (23 February 2018) The Sound of Silence (15 February 2019) Can you feel the love tonight? (23 August 2019) Blinding Lights (1 July 2020) Dreams (22 July 2020) TYTY ..
i have no religious belief at all but this is the most beautiful song, so beautifully harmonised. i love Pentatonix and this is, in my view, their absolutely best!!!]
So glad to hear you are a believer. It makes the entire song so much more..... real...impactful....lovely. Ah yes hope. Hope assured. Written in literal blood.
Said it before, the powerful meaning backed by the powerful vocals of PTX. Best rendition imo! I usually don't sub on first time watching a reaction, but I do like what I saw here.
What struck me first was that their location is in an open cave, probably like the one I envisioned Christ was buried in. I keep wondering how many have perfect pitch and how many have relative pitch. Also, as you noticed, the dynamics. The < then quickly > is amazing. Beautiful control! Their arranger is amazing. I love how Scott will switch to a well rounded bass when the bass has a solo, then back to baritone with great range. And their emotions are wonderful. They sing it as if they truly understand the message of the song and actually wants the answers from Mary.
Thanks for your thoughtful reaction! Their rendition of Silent Night is stunning and the official video for it is a live recording (in a German church), which as a singer you'll probably appreciate even more than a studio version. Carol Of The Bells is my personal favourite, but 12 Days of Christmas, Coventry Carol (there's only an audio version on RUclips), Veni Veni Emmanuel (again just audio), O Come All Ye Faithful and I'll Be Home For Christmas (again, only audio available) are runners-up. Their cover of When You Wish Upon A Star, from this year's Christmas album, is incredible - no official music video yet, but the audio is available if you wanted to give that a go. Not a Christmas song as such, but they always include a few on their Christmas albums (like Hallelujah).
Welcome to the world of Pentatonix 😁😁😁 You have hundreds of songs to check out 😜 I'm a big Avi (the old bass you saw here) fan. His voice is amazing. They all are but he is special in his own way 💚
Just subbed to enjoy your Pentatonix journey! Can you react to their new Christmas audio of One December Night? It rarely gets reacted to & is beautiful! Also, Silent Night & O Come All Ye Faithful - they have such a joyful arrangement! Amazing Grace.... There are so very many w/these artists! 💖 Just a side note: The writer of this song said it came to him while thinking of the Bible verse about Mary "pondered all these things in her heart." He wrote the words as tho he had a chance to meet Mary for a brief moment.. What would he ask her... What did she "ponder" & did she realize who her baby really was. Such a beautiful song! 💖
So quick info for you: - Scott (tall blond guy) is the baritone, often the featured singer, the most skilled at vocal acrobatics, and the frontman of the group. - Avi (bearded guy in the beanie) was the bass (basso profundo, actually), but he has sadly moved on to other projects. He was replaced by Matt, whose voice isn’t quite as low or as powerful, but is nonetheless insanely talented with a very rich tone. - Kirsten is a mezzo soprano and has the most subtle yet dynamically diverse vocal textures of the group. - Mitch is a contra tenor, has the widest vocal range, and his falsetto is actually one full note higher than Kirstie’s highest note. - Kevin is the beatboxer, but he is also a tenor and a cellist, and both of those other skills get featured on occasion. - Kirstie, Scott, and Mitch all went to school together and have been friends for years. The group formed when “the trio” was accepted to compete in the tv show “The Sing-Off,” but were informed that to qualify, they needed at least five people. Avi was recommended to Scott by a mutual friend who was in another a cappella group, and Kevin was invited to join after Scott saw him on RUclips “celloboxing” (beatboxing while playing the cello). Pentatonix went on to win that season, and the rest is internet history.
Oh, I love the idea that a singer/songwriter reacts to songs. Great reaction video, with interesting and knowledgeable comments and so much love and passion for music! :)
Hola Caleb, all of their Christmas covers are beautiful!!! I know you’re a fan of Queen so you’ll need to react to their version of Bohemian Rhapsody, it’s amazing!
Absolutely talented guy. You got the sense of THINGS throughout your soul. And it’s a kind of art to be able to express this to other people. How you feel every note and every sound and compilation both of it is magnificent, but the thing is that you can bring it to my mind so naturally. Thank you for you great work
You can't go wrong with any Pentatonix Christmas. Since 2014 they have had the #1 selling Christmas album Except for in 2016. I'm sure this year's album will also go to #1. They did win a Grammy for dance of the sugar plum fairy. And if you want harmonies listen to there cover of imagine. Great reaction and if you do more Pentatonix Then I Personally we'll subscribe and the pentaholics we'll flock to you
Yours was, by far, the most detailed and knowledgeable reaction I have heard to this beautiful performance. You caught all the important and subtle nuances and showed how the story itself was brought out so beautifully. Thank you for that.
Wow!! Awesome reaction, Caleb! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Their singing is just breath-taking. 💕💕💕 What a perfect song to get into the spirit of this season. Merry Christmas to you as well...blessings!!! 🎄🎄🎄
What a great reaction! Pentatonix's song renditions are always my favorite! Their arrangement will never disappoint but my personal favorite from them is amazing grace (it gave me chills and since i'm a christian as well, i felt blessed to hear the song), god rest ye merry gentlemen and white winter hymnal! I even loved 12 days of christmas since it's pentatonix! Also, unrelated, if you're looking for more singers to react to, I would suggest Sohyang from South Korea. She's an amazing singer, also a woman of faith and her life journey is amazing. A cancer survivor dedicating her God-given talent to serve God and bring healing to others! My personal favorite is arirang alone (a traditional korean folk song), and it's about dreams of reunification of South and North Korea. It's beautiful! Thank you! Have an amazing day
I love listening to your reactions. You tell what you enjoyed and why and it's spot on. They are amazing and when they sing a song, they do their best and make it outstanding. I don't think I have heard one that I was not happy with. They give it everything they've got and it can't get much better.
I loved your reaction. Very educational. I look forward to seeing more of your Pentatonix reactions like their new 90s Dance Melody. Thank you for your Christian message. Love it.
Great reaction to this amazing group. Try reacting to Morissette Amon with her latest just released version of "O Holy Night" from the Favor Church Christmas concert. You have reacted to her Mariah Carey version but this is so different and spine tingling. It is a must hear.
Such an incredible version of that song, and the messages is to me personally so full of grace and heartwarming truth! A big Merry Christmas to you too Caleb! Hope you and your family take care and stay safe!! 🙂🇩🇰🎄🕊🎁🇦🇺
Great reaction! A technical critique to help improve your content. The audio and video are not synced up. Also...you're correct about the beatboxing. Btw...I really appreciate your reference to the "Loudness Wars". I'm big on dynamics. Anyway...keep bringing us the PTX.
Great song, wonderful rendition and a beautiful message. Mary carried the light! All the best to you, Caleb and those close to you this Christmas, and to anyone else reading this post as well.
I got to see them win The Sing-Off in 2011 with their first recording contract and $200,000. They've had so many great collaborations with other artists. I'm wondering about a collaboration with our Dimash, epic maybe! 😊 Awesome reaction my bro!! 🔥 One of my favorite Christmas songs. 🤍
Kevin, who sings throughout this song actually performs all the beatboxing too intermixed. Avi is the bass. Tall blonde is Scott and he tends to open or lead most songs. Mitch and Kirsten are powerful singers.
I loved your reaction to one of my favorite Christmas songs. It gives me chills every time I hear it. Please try to react to their version of Amazing Grace. That will bring chills, too. I hope you had a blessed Christmas, and have a Happy New Year.
My favorite holiday song they have ever done...nice reaction. Hope you do more. Most recent is Amazing Grace...I always subscribe to new reactors who discover PTX....Judy D
If you want good Christmas music check out a group called Voctave. They are an 11 member a cappella group. A very must video to check out would be oh come all ye faithful, also oh come oh come Emmanuel. This group is phenomenal!!!!!
Your reaction to Pentatonix is why I subscribed. Well done reaction. Would also like to see your reactions to gospel singer classically trained David Phelps with the Gaither gospel group. He's one of the best if not the best tenor I've ever heard in all my years in music. Merry Christmas and God Bless to all.
Like how you explain thing, so even dumb old guys can understand!! More pentatonix please. The prayer is awesome!!! But all their music is amazing!! Good job mate! Love from Canada
Love those reactions XD could you react to their cover of Somewhere Over the Rainbow? I'm pretty sure they didn't make a video for that one but it's soo beautiful. At least you can listen to it on your own time if it doesn't fit for a reaction
They are actually singing in a cave system known for its acoustics. What is amazing is that Mitch, Scott and Kristy went to school together.... it was ment to be.

Such an incredible version of that song, and the messages is to me personally so full of grace and heartwarming truth! A big Merry Christmas to you too Caleb! Hope you and your family take care and stay safe!! 🙂🇩🇰🎄🕊🎁🇦🇺
Thank you, and the same for you and your family!
@@CalebColesMusic Thank you! ☺️🕊️
O Come All Ye Faithful definitely put their spin on it. Strongly suggest. Love Avi.
Great reaction😁
Please react to more Pentatonix🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
This one gave me chills. Beautiful reaction, keep 'em coming, I love Pentatonix! New subscriber here 🙂
Thank you for reacting. Ready to watch more PTX. They are amazing. Merry Christmas and we bring hope to all!
And you to you and those close to you also :) Have a great Christmas.
I got to see them win The Sing-Off in 2011 with their first recording contract and $200,000. They've had so many great collaborations with other artists. I'm wondering about a collaboration with our Dimash, epic maybe! 😊
Awesome reaction my bro!! 🔥
One of my favorite Christmas songs. 🤍
Dimash and Pentatonix would be so so incredible. I'd catch a plane to see it (well, maybe after COVID-19). Hope you're well bro!
Me too! Thanks bro, tty Before Christmas Day!
Kevin, who sings throughout this song actually performs all the beatboxing too intermixed. Avi is the bass. Tall blonde is Scott and he tends to open or lead most songs. Mitch and Kirsten are powerful singers.
The GREAT I AM 💛
Beautiful, and Caleb I feel like hugging you for that great interpretation of this song! Merry Christmas 🎄 and God Bless You!
Fun Fact: Filmed in the Origonal Batman TV Series - Bat Cave entrance ;-)
Merry Christmas to you too 😊😊😊
Thank you!
I'm a Christmas Eve Baby...and my name is Mary. I believe it's obvious. 🙏🙏
I loved your reaction to one of my favorite Christmas songs. It gives me chills every time I hear it. Please try to react to their version of Amazing Grace. That will bring chills, too. I hope you had a blessed Christmas, and have a Happy New Year.
Perfection 💙
Love this 🎶❤️🎶
Yup!
Love the PTX reaction.....
Thanks!
My favorite holiday song they have ever done...nice reaction. Hope you do more. Most recent is Amazing Grace...I always subscribe to new reactors who discover PTX....Judy D
Their version of Amazing Grace My chains are Gone, from their recent Christmas album is also very powerful! Loved your comments and insight!
Hello from Saint-Petersburg 💖
Please just enjoy it, don't try and break it apart!
Celo Green does a great Mary Did You Know.
La canción mas emotiva de ptx ,me fascina!
Great reaction to one of my favorite PTX songs, Thanks! new sub here!
Please react to pentatonix aha singapore the star Vista. I enjoy very much your analysis. From Puerto Rico with love.
I'll check it out!
The video is called the Wizard of Hahas
They are actually singing in a cave system known for its acoustics. What is amazing is that Mitch, Scott and Kristy went to school together.... it was ment to be.
