    My issue with it isn't the numbering. That's semantics.
    My issue is we were supposed to get 4.0 after 3.9 in 2020 and we got 3.10 instead. This is all after Chris told us at 2019 CitizenCon we were getting Pyro. Not CIG hoping to get Pyro to us, we were getting it.
    Fast forward to 2024 and we were supposed to get 4.0 after 3.23. They've told us this for months. Now what happens? Same thing as 2020. We're getting 3.24 after 3.23 just like we got 3.10 after 3.9, 4 years ago. Different year, same CIG.
    But don't worry! CIG will hype new things this October at CItizenCon for next year and y'all will forget that they do this every year and every following year we're still on "The Road to 4.0".

      Agree 100% this was an excuse to cover up their lack of fulfilling what they promise the community, we will definitely not be getting 4.0 this summer like they said especially after what they said at this last Bar Citizen Q&A about Pyro play tests.

    The sheer magnitude of things waiting on SM is crazy..the amount of times I've seen Jared and the devs in chat channels/bar citizens refraining "I can't wait for SM to really get going on things"

    • @IrisCorven
      @IrisCorven 3 месяца назад +5

      My biggest fear is that SM isn't going to be this magical silver bullet CIG thinks it's going to be - It might help get other systems into the game, but in the end if it doesn't help with playability/performance in it's first iteration, it's going to be a deathblow to a lot of the long-timers who have been banking on it for so long. I'm patient enough to keep waiting, but I know there are folks in the community that see it as the make-or-break moment for the game - if it's not a massive difference out of the gate, that's gonna be the "pack up and go home" for a lot of them.

      @@IrisCorven Well bye bye to them I guess, coming from a kickstarter backer lol

    • @IrisCorven
      @IrisCorven 3 месяца назад +3

      @@vamperic We say that, but it bodes poorly for general optics for the game/CIG, as well. If people start reporting masses of backers are giving up on the project because the big feature that's suppose to cement the other big features is a bust, then we have even more negative press for the game than already exists. The "Scam Citizen" mentality is already strong with the general public as is, but it'll only grow if more negativity is borne out of a poor reception to 4.0.
      In our own ecosystem as backers, the "Oh well, don't let the door hit you" mentality makes sense. Can't be patient? Okay, piss off then. But in reality, we're banking on a game that's going to need to do numbers to stay alive post-1.0, and it's going to be an uphill struggle post release, with the marketing being as predatory/FOMO focused as it has, and the existing history the game has.

      For what it's going to do, there's no way it releases in a perfectly functional state.
      And they're not even going to be able to tune it without stressing it on live.
      It will get there, but it's gonna be painful for players. What results will be worth the pain.

    I keep coming up against this problem in my head: If we don't get the 150+ solar systems in the game, then it seems to me that server meshing could ruin the game. If 3 million+ people (at an extremely conservative estimate) are playing in only 3-4 solar systems, but everyone can see and interact with each other (i.e. no instances) won't everything be way too crowded? I don't want this to be like ESO where, everywhere you go, you're constantly shoulder to shoulder with other players. It seems like such a scenario would lead to craziness ala GTA in space.

    • @Ogata123
      @Ogata123 3 месяца назад

      3 million is likely too high concurrently

    • @bilbob4g1nz
      @bilbob4g1nz 3 месяца назад

      didn't they say 90 odd for solar systems? they won't release with only 4, if they do it will get boring. now they may end up capping total systems and release systems throughout its life span i.e. new missions and system to discover. A bit like DLC to add a fresh feel, even creating an aspect for those who like exploration. Lets be honest all these things are speculation and you never know what new tech will come out in the meantime to assist them with their goal.

    I think it is just as Casa stated, this is most likely due to timing. They really could name the patches whatever they want, but this is possibly something they want to track internally differently. While I think the features are going to change things in a big way, I don't think the naming convention is something worth being concerned about.
    That being said... yes... def waiting on Server meshing the most. Iirc CR has been talking about it since 2016, and it has been one of the ones that will make this all feasible. Even quantum is paused until meshing gets out.

    I called it months ago. Community smeared me and laughed at me for saying there was going to be a 3.24 and 3.25 and that they're going to delay every patch because of their funding model. They have absolutely no incentive to release things on time. Pyro delayed 6 years and counting. SIX YEARS ! For a mostly empty system with barren planets !
    I was one of the early backers. I've been very supportive for over a decade. When i started being a tiny bit critical, i got perma banned on Spectrum. That's all the evidence I needed, that they delay everything intentionally and release things extremely slowly on purpose, not because of work load or mismanagement, and they are not sorry.
    Thankfully i'm a EU citizen and i'm now in the process of getting a full refund (a little bit over 3k€). Between Master Modes, star systems being delayed half a decade on purpose (when they promised a 100) and the arbitrary perma ban on Spectrum, I am denied way too much things that were promised originally.
    People who think 1.0 is right around the corner are gonna have a really bad next decade.

    I would take a bit of distance to compare servermeshing with GTAs new technology lightly. Not that I know much about GTAs tech but calling the one equal to the other could easily backflip and overhype GTA and or downplay the work CIG has done. I mean how often did we look at other games which told us that they have SC tech and in the end it was a cheap skate version that did not even compare to StarCitizen and then was used to tell us SC will never be able to do it... because ED, NMS, cyberpunk or Starfield did not manage,

    Lol how should a new player know (!) where to land? Only way is ask someone who know and then it’s just experience. Yes, once you "near" the airport you can go and look at the distance at the coms panel and fly always the direction that lowers the distance number but if you new you don't even know how to get close to the spaceport. And please don’t see this as an inventation for a new marker trashing my view, just make a tutorial with a marker for the first mission or something immersive like a world map with the space port on it... like I know we are only some thousand years in the future but today I can have gps in my watch having pointing an arrow to the direction I have to go to find my poi😉
