When Pokemon the First Movie came out my grandpa took me to see it and there were four different pokemon card promos you could get, getting 1 card per ticket. So, my grandpa bought our tickets, knew I was missing the 2 other promos so he paid for the mom and kid behind us in line so I could get the other two promos. Love you grandpa R.I.P.

Man I still remember seeing the movie when it got released at my local theater in '99 and how the climax almost made me cry but I tried to hold it together because I didn't want to be that kid (LOL). It's wild looking at these old clips of the 90s Pokemania because it really does feel like a fever dream because of how much time has passed but it's just bittersweet missing the 90s boom of Pokemon, it was truly something magical

@@pineapplesauce7499 Honestly yes. While Pokemon is still relatively popular today, the popularity it had in the late 90s to about 2001-2002 was insane because it was EVERYWHERE. Not just the games and anime show, but the theatrical releases of the first 3 movies, the advertisements posted all places like plazas and malls, , Pokemon merch being featured in fast food toys, the trading card game (when was the last time you heard people talking about Pokemon cards? lol) etc. It was truly a world wide phenomenon.

I don’t remember when exactly I saw it if it was towards the end of its theatre run or the first couple of weeks. @@hiattgrey9161 I’m not a Pokémon fan and I don’t watch the show like many big Pokémon RUclipsrs like Lumiose Trainer Zac, and I’ve been out of a Pokémon phase since the beginning of this year’s summer. But I do like think of characters from Pokémon from time to time. And me and my friend do a thing called ‘Bad Movie Monday’ where we watch a movie that a website or some people on the internet consider not good. And we watched Pokémon : The First Movie at the end of January this year, and we both enjoyed it! I just find researching the movie and other parts of the franchise to be very cutesy and wholesome.

Today is the *2* year anniversary of when "Pokemon: The First Movie Premiere from 1999" was uploaded! Since I was born in 1998, I didn't get to really experience "Pokemon: The First Movie" for myself until the remastered version premiered on Cartoon Network on January 4, 2014. I was 15 but that didn't stop me from tearing up when Ash died... for the second time! I'm pretty sure that the episode where he and Pikachu became ghosts aired before "Pokemon: The First Movie" even premiered. 🤓➡️😅

Any chance you have more pokemon related footage from the late 90s and early 2000s? I can only relive my own experience of pokemania with my memories, but memories get hazy after a while... Your footage is the closest I've felt to what i remember seeing and doing back then. Would love to see more.

Couldn’t agree more. There was an aura in the late 90’s being so young when pokemania hit, add in the beginning of what I’d say is the technology boom. All we had to worry about was enjoying childhood. Pokémon made unforgettable memories for me.

I'm sure the first girl didn't care and was and analytical or something but part of me knew she knew what was going on but you can't geek out too hard on national tv and go into the types but whoops long on sentence. She basically would have been my mom buying all packs for us and forcing us to keep specifically the holographics in sleeves. I wanted to take them to my friends for the longest time but this last June she passed away. She would be fascinated with the process of pokemon go and that a pokemon could be in your house. She took my to the first pokemon movie and that is when my consciousness first turned on. My mom and dad telling me it's a longer episode and I mind you I've watched the first bit but here. Right here these little dudes are me (not literally but that implored) and on top of that there was a gift shop right next to the theatre. I got a kick-ass charmander plushie. As a 30 yo male I was youn enough to see this movie and see ash win a league. I'm not a religious man but my mother was a religious woman and I was raised Catholic so even if I don't believe in it now if anyone is religious I'd take a prayer. It would piss my mom off because she would want you to take a shot of your nearest mid price rye but I'm still praying for her off my 26 of rye 🙏

For what ever reason adults loved to be confused about pokemon. I've never seen a cartoon be so confusing to adults in my life. This was of course further validatited further in this video as you can see. When the reporter kept askeing to explain pokemon to him , he kept having this smug condescending tone. This was typical and every parent I guess couldn't watch enough to realize whats going on .
Its definitely the cool to not know what it's about cartoon all time , good way to see if someone was a sheep parrot. Of course there was the whole pokemAn thing..

I mean for people who didn’t grow up with it and don’t really give a shit to learn about it. It is confusing and even then if they do try to learn about it chances are they’re not gonna be invested to really know outside of a basic understanding.

As someone who was a kid during this time, it had a TON of marketing.

What Avarazael said. I was around 9/10 at this time and was also heavily into Pokemon. It was because the marketing was everywhere! Posters in stores, the plushes, the fast food toys you could get in the kids meals, the video games (and seeing your classmates at school playing Pokemon Red or Blue - and later Yellow - at recess), the Pokemon cards, the anime which was almost done with the Indigo League, etc. It was everywhere and you couldn't escape it even if you tried lol.

Lol he explained it, his kids, like most kids at the time, love Pokemon. They're not with him at that moment because he's freakin Rob Lowe and people are going to borderline harass him for pictures and interviews, he knows it's expected of him to oblige them so he's doing it. His kids are probably waiting for them to get done so they can see the movie without them being apart of the focus and the bother. You can see them trying to coax promotional material out of really small children and they don't know how to deal with it and it's kinda messed up.
