    Love the look of this car and seems perfect for UK roads and real life with the hatchback etc
    The only things I don’t like are no Start / Stop button as a safety and event feature , seems strange , just get in and drive 🤔
    Also i just don’t get why these days cars have 60:40 split rear seats, surely 40:20:40 would be better in real life and give you the option to put stuff thru the middle like skis etc
    Lastly , I know you said Apple CarPlay next year , but does that mean I’ve got to wait until then to use the better Waze sat-nav than the standard Google Maps, even tho they own Waze now I think
    Car reminded me of a Storm Trooper in that colour scheme, in a good way

      The no stop-start thing is really easy to get used to. It has a sensor in the seat, and when you sit in it (with the key, obvs), it'll let you put your foot on the brake and pull the gear selector into Drive. And off you go. It just means you skip the act of turning the car on… oo-er

    The trouble with doing the Top Gear “not talking about” thing and mentioning it at every opportunity is that when you aren’t comparing them, you kind of are. So It’s completely unclear when you are comparing, contrasting, or just commenting. The result is it’s a wasted review, and because of a need to be one of the boys and go Tesla bashing. God knows, we just need more decent EVs, not infighting. Yes I know you commented that the review wasn’t JUST for bashing the competition, but which bits? Such a shame for a missed opportunity for some serious and useful professional journalism.

    the non-"T-word" charging network in many places is sketchy AF, like for instance how VW's dieselgate settlement charging network was shut down with barely any notice on the busiest holiday traveling weekend in the US for "service" and "upgrades" which no doubt stranded tons of non-"T-word" drivers!

    Great real world review Tim! Think you forgot to drop in the usual motoring journalist clichés though!
    2020 was meant to be the year electric car sales boomed in Europe - but guess that hasn't happened. Telsa won't be that popular once the big car brands have their mainstream electric models out.

      I don't know what you consider as per "sales boom" but ,while in low percentages vs ICEs , in the last two years EVs have seen an exponential growt, heck, in the first half of 2020 we sold in Europe more EVs than in the entire Chinese market!

    • @JakeCoventry
      @JakeCoventry 4 года назад

      The trouble with the charging network is that when you want to use one you will likely be on some kind of journey.. maybe a weekend away, or a trip to the airport. The last thing you want is a broken charger, or to be say behind a Mitsubishi PHEV that’s in front of you. That’s why you have to compare with the Tesla as it’s the only company that really understands about EV ownership. The rest are just hoping somebody else can sort out the mess.

    Regarding the infotainment system. Probably my mind of polluted, since I'm a model Y owner. To me, it looks cluttered. In Tesla, you have an area that is always about driving and the rest. Very clear. Priority of the steering wheel area is for driving and the view. No panel at all.
    When I'm in any other car that has a panel behind the steering wheel, I feel like I don't see a road and something unnecessary is cluttering my view. In a traditional car, especially in the era of a manual shift, you have to monitor lots of things. That why you need to have this data there. What do I need when I drive tesla? Only a speed limit, which I receive by a sound notification. I don't need all this data Polestar place for the driver , I want to enjoy my driving view, not my mileage, temperature outdoor etc..
    As an engineer, this custom non-android auto could be a huge pain in the ass for owners. Unless they really have a culture of delivering software. You can say a lot of bad things about T company but they are good at software. This could be a benefit in case Polestar will gain traction, 3rd party apps is something tesla doesn't have. Even simple thing as Waze, no chance, only phone.

    Ok, so it’s a nice EV when compared to a petrol/diesel vehicle, but by all this “oh, I’m not going to mention the sector leader”, you avoided what would appear to be the two big questions that the Polestar will need to address for many users - to be specific, how much difference would the lack of the Tesla ‘driving assistance’ ( to avoid calling it ‘AutoPilot’) and the SuperCharger network make?

Polestar 2 is priced at £49,900 while Tesla Model 3 Standard Range + at £38,500. If you like Polestar 2 more because it is a Volvo product made in China and if you are ready to pay £11,400 more - it is your personal choice.
