Amtrak 42 - All Time Compilation

- This has always been my favorite heritage unit by Amtrak. Unfortunately, with all the charger locomotives hitting service, it's unlikely we'll never see Amtrak 42 "Veterans unit" on the mainline again. Here's a compilation of all my footage of Amtrak P42DC #42 leading trains in Southern California from 2013-2020. A salute to the men and woman that've served the United States of America!

The horn 42 had is probably what made it unique. Nothing else can beat that sound of its K5. May this unit Rest In Peace.

Ah yes, watching P42DC engines on Amtrak state supported trains were my favorites. It hurts to miss the good times, especially with heritage units or Dash 8s and the F59PHi engines
They were my childhood. I had a heritage unit pull my surfliner train when I was 5

The Amtrak 42 locomotive is cool than the Amtrak P25 locomotive.

As of March 2024 its in beech Grove shops

@ImAcringeyraillfanner neither. 42 was taken out of service because apparently she had extreme mechanical problems

My most favorite part of 42 is that K5LA, nothing can beat it
Ive only seen 42 3 times on the Empire Builder, thats it. Back then i thought she was the greatest thing ever, as i absolutely adored that stunning Veterans paint job

great sky shot too towards the end
to bad this hertige is naw gone these days because I saw it in a work shop yard area reedit to be gone
too bad they didn't give this unit a replacement engine hopefully some day they will give it a replacement engine
but I also saw an enteric engine waring a ventrines scheme too

42 was taken out of service in 2020
42 is no longer in service. It was retired in 2020 because of technical difficulties. The unit is currently stored in Indiana at Amtrak’s Beech Grove Maintenance Facility.
