For the next roundup please add in a laptop or two (Windows/Mac), as well as a smartphone. I'd like to know if the power output makes any difference, and also if you run into any issues like you did with the dongle in this video that ran on the iPad, but not the iPhone. As you know exactly what the headphones should sound like on a good desktop amp, it's great to hear your opinions on the sacrifices that you'd have to make for portability.
I'd like to see you test and compare some powered portable Dac+amps. Doesn't have to be on the IPhone necessarily, it would just be interesting to hear what you think about some of the options out there today
Very curious about your opinion of the xDuoo Xd 05 pro, the Ifi Gryphon and even the fiio M17, those have lots of features and can drive almost everything
You should try the Lotoo paw s2 it my favorite. I have a few other dongles but that one really stands out to me. It’s mostly neutral sounding and can drive the audeze LCD X quite well.
There’s SO MANY dongles now, it’s pretty cool. Apple rates the output on the USB-C jack at 4.5W, so even demanding headphones can crank no problem on the high power ones.
Hi! I bought the case you recommended, it'S pricey but quality is great. How about 3.5mm jack? Will the Ugreen Dac Model Usbc to 3.5mm jack will work on iPhone 15 ProMax?
So I take it there are no longer power limitations for higher powered dongle DACS since switching over to USB-C from lightning? I currently have an iphone 13 pro with a moonriver 2 Ti driving some 4.4mm yanyin canon II’s…wondering if the switch to the iphone 15 pro is worthwhile now? Thank you.
Apple claims 4.5W max output for an SSD, so presumably it’s not an issue for these dongles. We tried a few lightning dongles, and adaptors from lightning to USB-C on an iPhone 14, and most of them suddenly cut out if the volume got too high. None of these issues were experienced with the iPhone 15 native USB-C.
Thanks for the interesting video, I agree with the sentiment at the end, that a higher price point would be good to try. I like my cayon ru6 (the ru7 is the newest model) and it would be interesting to see what you think of the dragonfly models
I wish you had tested different portable dac/amp. I believe a typical Diana MR user would be considering much different dac/amp. Some to consider: qudelix 5k, btr5, MOONDROP moonriver 2 ti, dragonfly Cobalt, Chord Mojo 2, Cayin RU6.
I agree with this since I use a ifi hip dac, and chord mojo 2. But this does confirm that the MR is not as electronic dependent so I am looking forward to trying it
Yes, do another one with dongles considered to be at the top of the game like L&P W4, Cayin RU7, Fiio KA5, Shanling UA3/5, HiBy FC6, E1DA 9038S Gen 3, Ibasso DC04pro, Ifi Go Bar, I would like to hear your take on those.
@@dhiaoshaish and according to Ibasso soon there will be a DC06pro, which is a bit more powerful and has a different dac. They say both dongles are equal, but different, so DC06pro won't be directly replacing DC04pro.
iOS allows for more gradual control than the default ‘clicks’ you get from bumping the volume buttons. You can click the volume buttons to bring up the volume bar, and then drag it up or down from there. It does allow you to set it lower.
All phones should perform nearly identical, as long as they can provide enough power to the dongle. It would be interesting to check, but I’d suspect there’s not a lot of difference.
Hi Abyss, I’d like to see the Creative Sound Blaster G3 running these headphones. It’s another affordable ($40-$50) USB C or USB A Amp/DAC but is compatible with anything it can plug into including consoles. It also has an app that allows for EQ and preamp options, it’d be real impressive if it could run these headphones close to their potential. It drives my Sennheiser hd599 very well from what I can tell (though I am new to this hobby), would like to know if it could run headphones from Abyss.
Unfortunately Creative doesn't rate the output voltage or power of the G3 so no way to know other than try. It looks like the G6 would be the best fit as it has a low output impedance which helps to drive low impedance planar headphones.
OK So dongles you guys missed, that are actually not only good but is also saturated in the market right now. 1) Cayin RU7 2) Cayin RU6 3) L&P W4 4) Fiio FC6 5) Moondrop Moonrivr 2/ti 6) Chord Mojo 2 7) Moonriver 2 8) Shanling UA5 9) Fiio BTR7 10) Hip Dac 2 11) Gryphon 12) DC04 Pro 13) VE Megatron 14) Moondrop Dawn Pro
You let off one significant option. Take an USB Type C to male 3.5 mm 😮jack and plug it into a small portable amplifier like a $450 Ray Samuels Audio SR-71A.
@@semccoin Agreed, will drain the battery pretty quickly, although these work pretty well with this new iPhone 15. Apple sells a USB C Digital AV Multiport adaptor that allows you to charge from a USB C cable and use USB type A for digital audio to an external DAC or dongle.
On price to performance the $9 Apple ones honestly slay, and they were included for a while
From my understanding, the M15 draws a lot of power from the device, more than an iPhone puts out. That's why you experienced clipping.

I have a dragon fly DAC. Would these dongles be in addition to this? I’m using a lightning to usb dongle now. Thoughts?
Yes please, include the ibasso DC04 pro, it's been making a lotta buzz lately and I wonder what you guys would think of it.
Need to try ifi go bar and Moondrop dawn pro
i love the cayin ru6 and ifi go bar. i use the ifi at my laptop and the ru6 in my pocket.
Hi Does it show correct sampling rate on dac for apple music?
I'm considering the switch to iphone now that they have usbc and as an audio nerd with lots of dongles this is the video i needed. Thanks fellas
There’s SO MANY dongles now, it’s pretty cool. Apple rates the output on the USB-C jack at 4.5W, so even demanding headphones can crank no problem on the high power ones.
Would have loved to see the Caiyn RU6 and RU7..
Hi! I bought the case you recommended, it'S pricey but quality is great. How about 3.5mm jack? Will the Ugreen Dac Model Usbc to 3.5mm jack will work on iPhone 15 ProMax?
Hi guys, currently using either ifi hip dac or chord mojo 2. Would be helpful to get your thoughts with pairing those to the MR
Hi, no problem driving MR with either of these.
Ifi go bar vs the woo audio would be an interesting comparison
This might be a silly question but are the specs and performance the same for the lightning to 3.5 apple dongle and the type-c to 3.5 dongle?
From what I've heard they're the same. As you might imagine, just a matter of a different connection

They should try IBasso DC04 Pro, Zorloo ZuperDAC Max, Hiby FC6 Darwin & Cayin RU7 Dongles DACs.
Saw your ab1266 post on headfi it was speckeled wanna was that about ?
is is possible if lightng can connect to a type c dongle?
Apple makes a USBc to lightening adapter so you use your old lightening devices with the new iPhone. It works. I tried an Amazon on, didn’t work.

a good selection, I double down on the Ibasso DC04 pro

@@dhiaoshaish and I forgot to add newly released Fiio KA13, though output impedance is a bit high, so won't cut for my 5 Ohm IEMs.
I really thought the jCally AP90 was a Moondrop Moon River 2. Looks like somebody did some homework copying.
Nice but you left all the best dongles out guys.Ru7 ,ibasso dc elite, hiby fc 6 and etc..
Sounds like the Apple dongle’d be the best buy of all
The problem im having is on the lowest volume setting its at a 100 decibels with the apple earbuds i anyone figure out how to get lower than that

But do they passthru Hi-Res??
Can you try the same on S23 Ultra

Can you put the headphones on a binaural microphone dummy head and play each one and look at the waveform to do a scientific comparison?
So this is jst a fake title video..huh?
I got pranked aswell. Ffs
You guys didn’t test a Dragonfly? Didn’t AQ basically invent this market space??
I’m using a play 4 by creative and it sounds good and it works well with my 15 pro max
Just picked up the woo audio tube mini. And I got to say , it is the best dongle that I’ve ever tried . Way better than my questyle M15

Is the Jcally AP90 a rip-off Moondrop?
it's sad iPhone's internal DAC does not support hi-res audio.
whoa! new weejio on weekend.
