It was your original collapsing hotbar video which introduced me to your channel (as well as making my UI much tidier!), so it's quite special for me to see it become... a video reborn! You work so hard to give us great content; thanks so much, Despi! :)
Thank you for the guide. I placed this vertically on the left. As a controller player on the PS4, this is clearer for me. The principle is of course the same. Just a little more customized, so it’s better presented. For small Schnick Schnack I have even changed the respective job macro: OLD /micon "Soul of the Warrior" item /gs change 2 /wait 2 /hotbar display 9 off /hotbar display 8 off NEW /micon "Soul of the Warrior" item /eureka motion /snap motion /gs change 2 /wait 2 /hotbar display 9 off /hotbar display 8 off
One thing I did for my setup after watching this was remove the timers to re-hide the bars, then change "current 8" to "share 8" so that you can keep the hotbar visible and keep it consistent between classes. This also frees you up to use a few more class-specific hotbars for storage, since under normal circumstances your last few hotbars should only be Share hotbars.
I recommend making hotbar 8 shared and changing all the "current" keywords to "share" for more consistent switches between classes: ex. "/hotbar copy ... current 8" -> "/hotbar copy ... share 8" Reason: This makes it so that the "sub-hotbar", aka hotbar 8, won't sometimes unexpectedly change on you after changing classes. This happens because whenever you change classes, you leave your "current" hotbar on that class, and any switch back to the class will recover that old hotbar. Changing hotbar 8 to shared will maintain all the hotbar copying on a global instance, so no more wack behavior :)
Using shared also gives you hotbar 8 back to use for your classes/jobs or copying for other menus. The hotbar is still there and usable, it's just hidden by the shared hotbar, if you want to or need to, you can add some macro trickery to enable/disable shared hotbar as and when you need it. (The shared bar is also always there, it seems to act like a phantom class) As an example you could have hotkeys set to use hotbar 8 (i don't know why you would, but you could) and on your menu expand macro, it enables shared on 8, then on the timer or your menu macros you set it to disable shared when it hides them. Your job/class hotbar and keys is untoucned, as you're copying on the shared bar, but it swaps between shared and normal as a function of your macros. Again I say you can. I'm not sure why you would. It's probably easier just to use one of the many class hotbars you aren't using instead. heh
New player here, I come from Wow, and UI customization is a big thing for me, that's what I love doing with addons etc. But damn, never did I expect a game to make a base UI so fun to use, I love the idea behind theses macros
This is awesome, thank you! .. As someone who's prone to rearrange actions on my bars, I added "save" macros to each of the "submenus" .. all those do is doing the hotbar copy in reverse. I lose one slot on each bar to those, but it's worth the convenience to me, so I never have to switch to the base classes to change the items on my bars.
@@ChainedFei Sorry, this got lengthy, but I didn't know how best to explain it and how detailed an explanation was needed: Let's take the example from 6:21 here. It copies the contents from bar 4 of the arcanist class to your current bar 8 and displays it (and then waits a bit before auto-closing the whole hotbar menu). Let's call that macro the "dps submenu". I made a second macro, that just says: /hotbar copy current 8 ACN 4 This macro just does the reverse copy. Now how I set it up: * I removed the "closing the hotbar menu" part from the dps submenu macro temporarily * I opened the menu and activated the dps submenu macro to open my hotbar menu and submenu with the contents from the ACN 4 bar (which might be empty at this point) * I placed my "save" macro with the reverse copy on that bar and activated it. * I added the "closing the hotbar menu" part back into the dps submenu macro. (you can skip first and last step here if you're quick with placing and activating the save macro before the auto-close) From now on, when you open the dps submenu, you see the save macro on it. It does two things: * it cancels the auto-close of the menu (because both are macros and executing a macro while another one is still running cancels the previous macro) * it transfers the current state of the submenu to the ACN 4 bar So what I, for example, tend to do: * Open my submenu when I want to make changes to the icons there, for example rearrange them. * Immediately press the save macro. Now I have all the time in the world to rearrange things, as the auto-close is cancelled * Rearrange or add icons to my heart's content * Press the save macro again * Close the menu with the main menu button If I open the submenu again after all of this, it shows the newly rearranged icons. This way, I never even have to change to the ACN class at all.
@@Fulmenify Thank you for the explanation! That makes sense. You have to work quickly if you put the auto-close command into your macros, but that does seem convenient. I had to create gearsets just so I could switch to my soul stone-free classes lol

I want to point this out to everyone, but the biggest hurdle I had with this setup is that you need to set these macros under the SHARED tab in the User Macros menu. If you put these in Individual, they will not work as the macros you put in will be assigned to that particular class during your set up. Also, doing this after coming home from a long day of work is probably not the best time to set them up... Either way, this guide is great! Thank you for helping me with this! :D
Just wanted to put out there that if you want to use the macros in PvP modes, you can use /pvphotbar instead of /hotbar. Also, the base classes like ACN, CNJ, etc. don't exist in PvP, so I place the button data that gets copied to hotbar 8 in my unused PvP hotbars like 5, 6, 7 on my regular jobs (even the ones I actually play) and then hide those unused hotbars. This allows me to remake another set of macros for PvP. Luckily PvP doesn't have that many relevant menu items so it's quick to make a few equivalent macros for PvP.

Hopefully if other people are having the same issue this might help them.
Can confirm, this did the trick after the *current* command did absolutely nothing I guess it is because hotbar 8 might be shared if you encounter this error

i was wondering how you had so many hotbars in use.... using base class hotbars is fucking brilliant! i might have to sit down and fiddle with this a bit. I already have a nice set up with my hot bars but obviously it can always be better!
if you're here like me in dawntrail, all you have to do is add a macro of "/hotbar copy (class) (number) current 8 /hotbar display 8 on /wait 7 /hotbar display 8 off /hotbar display 9 off" to your dps bar. preferibly with the image of an arrow down like i did so i know there are more jobs lower down.
As a controller player, I wish there was a way to add a hotbar to the list of things you can "tab" to.... like the scenario guide, the chat box, the duty list, and the mini map. Let me tab to a menu hotbar like this. Please.
Sorry, I don't know the name that they gave to it... The big black thing that we use as mouse pad that is in the middle of the controller Just press it. It works as a tab key
@@BranBal ohh, no that's what I was talking about! You can press that to tab to all sorts of things but not to a hotbar. If I want to use a regular hotbar with a controller, I have to either keybind it and use my keyboard, or click it with my mouse.
Is there a video where you go more in depth as far as your specific hotbars/macros? For example; Hunt, Duty, Teleport and the eyeglass from your collapsing hotbar? I love to get new ideas!
Meeega gut, danke dir für diesen guid!! Hatte nihct gedacht dass ich des brauchen werde, aber doch.. ja.. das ist cool. Endlich wird mein layout aufgeräumt aussehen xD

I recommend making hotbar 8 shared and changing all the "current" keywords to "share" for more consistent switches between classes:

OMG THANK YOU. This was driving me crazy. "Am I missing a space? Do I need brackets? WHY ISN'T THIS WORKING!!"
I don't know why but "current" didn't work for me as well, but "share" did the trick. Thank you for that
Can confirm, this did the trick after the *current* command did absolutely nothing
I guess it is because hotbar 8 might be shared if you encounter this error
OMG thank you so much had this issue for weeks kept watching the video to see if I did something wrong but couldn't find it. This has instantly solved my problem again thank you, so helpful now my hotbars are so much cleaner!! ♥♥♥
This is a game changer and you are a godsend
I've always used macros like these, but even still your videos help me understand exactly how it works better than I ever have
Man I've watched this twice and checked his other videos out and I still have no idea how he's doing it lol... just gonna have to play around with it
This is just the kind of thing I wanted to be able to set up in the game. Thanks!
i was wondering how you had so many hotbars in use....
using base class hotbars is fucking brilliant! i might have to sit down and fiddle with this a bit. I already have a nice set up with my hot bars but obviously it can always be better!
I came back to the game a couple of days ago so this is a perfect video for me, thank you.
Man, this is SUPER clean. I love it!
Thank you for a really great guide. And you be really teaching us about pointers if this was a computer science video.
Just opened whole new world for me! Thanks!
Ty for this Video, I've been playing since RR and it never crossed my mind to try anything like this lol
Love to see mixing up different job/class gears to have a smn an drk combined to look different from other equipment gears ect lol
if you're here like me in dawntrail, all you have to do is add a macro of "/hotbar copy (class) (number) current 8
/hotbar display 8 on
/wait 7
/hotbar display 8 off
/hotbar display 9 off" to your dps bar. preferibly with the image of an arrow down like i did so i know there are more jobs lower down.
Finally decided to try this out. Thank you for explaining how it works. :D
I came here for the UI but you caught me with that gustaberg theme.
UI is clean now, great tutorial thanks
Thank you for this!
I just found your video and I was able to set it up easily thanks to you. Kudos!
Damn, that's some really clever usage of the game mechanics. Now I hope they never remove the base classes from the game lol they finally have a use
As a controller player, I wish there was a way to add a hotbar to the list of things you can "tab" to.... like the scenario guide, the chat box, the duty list, and the mini map. Let me tab to a menu hotbar like this. Please.
On PS4 controller you can
@@BranBal ooh how??
Sorry, I don't know the name that they gave to it...
The big black thing that we use as mouse pad that is in the middle of the controller
Just press it.
It works as a tab key
@@BranBal ohh, no that's what I was talking about! You can press that to tab to all sorts of things but not to a hotbar. If I want to use a regular hotbar with a controller, I have to either keybind it and use my keyboard, or click it with my mouse.
On controller, you can have your left thumb stick act as a mouse. to do this you hold LB and tap R3.
Came across this, and it is such a game changer. Thank you so much.
Loved this video, super easy to follow. Always my go to xiv creator
Thank you !
Is there a way to see the Macro description for the non-dps ones? I'd love to see how to copy the icon. Thanks
if you want the actual job icon, you can do
/micon “BTN” classjob
for botanist, and just change the job in the quotes to whichever icon you want! :)
This... Changes.... EVERYTHING...
Is there a video where you go more in depth as far as your specific hotbars/macros? For example; Hunt, Duty, Teleport and the eyeglass from your collapsing hotbar? I love to get new ideas!
especially what the crafting micon macro is?
Meeega gut, danke dir für diesen guid!! Hatte nihct gedacht dass ich des brauchen werde, aber doch.. ja.. das ist cool.
Endlich wird mein layout aufgeräumt aussehen xD
Awesome video. Work like a charm!
Hey thanks for this. I've been playing for maybe 1 and a half years and idk you could even do this 🤣. Down I'm compacting everything down.
I am 15sec in and is that Gustaberg music I hear?! Bravo good sir! Ahem…excuse my addled FFXI mind, won’t you?
Amazing guide and suck a cool feature, I love the UI editing in this game.
