  • The BMW i5 eDrive40 is the first all electric 5 Series and is maybe the best BMW EV so far. We first saw the 5 Series in 1972, 51 years later the 5 Series becomes the last segment of BMW to be electrified. The BMW i5 is such an important car for BMW and it is nice to see an EV that isn't an SUV !

    • @SDK2006b
      @SDK2006b 8 месяцев назад

      Euro6 doesn’t mean the exhaust gases are clean. Diesel vehicles are still dirty polluters - put a pipe from the exhaust into the cabin with the engine running and you will be dead within 30mins !😱
      Follow a diesel on the road and there is black soot coming out of the exhaust under every acceleration.
      The majority of people on the road don’t need 650 miles of daily range - that’s the tiny minority of drivers.

    This car is spot on, but new car prices even for those with resources are just getting too high, especially with manufacturers having such high interest rates.
    The i5 needs a bigger battery. Having a range over 400 miles for a sales executive is vital. 200 miles there 200 miles back. Charge at home or hotel. Then you have it.

      Does not getvround the safety issue with EVs though. Diesel is the real answer. Make diesel even cleaner and the EV is dead. Insurance premioms for EVs have increased ten fold in the last year. My car premium has only risen by 40 pounds.

    • @Pugjamin
      @Pugjamin 8 месяцев назад

      @@Anonymous-ib8sowhat safety issues with EV’s? The imagined ones? The reality is that EV’s are 20 times less likely to be involved in a fire than ice. And yes, that’s allowing for differences in numbers. EV fires are less likely to spread to other vehicles as they don’t dump litres of burning fuel on the floor to flow around as it pleases. They are also less likely to have fire spread to them as they don’t have plastic tanks full of flammable liquid under them.
      Yes, the fires can be more violent and difficult to fight, but most services now have started carrying additive chemicals what can be added to the water to smother EV fires, plus there are also devices that deploy under the car to pierce the battery and deploy water / extinguisher chemicals directly into the battery.

    • @Pugjamin

      YoubEV abngelists arecliving in a fairy tale worls. EVs are dirtier more expensive and dangerous than ICE cars. Modern diesels are cleaner less polluting than perol or EVs. They are also as quiet as EVs without the fire risks associated with EVs. The previous five series was the best looking car they've ever made. Now they don't make a single good looking car. Everything looks Chinese. It's really sad, as I've been a huge bummer fan my whole life. Audi have been making some nice cars lately. Fingers crossed for rs6 etron 🤞

    I really do like the fact that it looks like an ordinary car. I know we have to embrace technology, but is it really necessary for the car to be giving you so many instructions and you being required to read and select all those options to turn something off when driving.
    For me safety should come first. Bring back old switch gear and get rid of all the technology that isn't essential.
    Do we really need mobile offices!
    But congratulations to BMW. Fantastic looking car.

    Nice summary review of a very impressive car but £75K wow way beyond my budget, neighbour has a 3 series EV saloon and loves it but a company car, maybe now better tax breaks, might be worth doing a video of the re-emergence of company EV vehicles looking popular gain

    It’s certainly a good looking car and as much as BMW’s have always been expensive, I suppose £70k plus for a German saloon is acceptable….
    Most of the up-class hotels where I work in London are running fleets of EV 7 series and they have lights around the grills and I have to admit they do look impressive.

    I need to go and take a look in the dealer, because (pedantry warning) there is something rather odd about the angle of the central armrest - seems higher at the front than the back?
    Otherwise, not keen. Screens overload again, those light strips look tacky and unlike in the 7, the fact it's not a continuous strip just looks odd. It will sell well of course, they always do.

    I like the cleaner lines of this 5 Series but I still don’t think it is a looker. The best looking cars are those which you turn around and look at with pride and affection after you have locked the doors. The i5 does not fit into the drop dead gorgeous category for me. Unfortunately I suspect most cars are now “styled” to appeal to US and Chinese tastes.
    What was not mentioned was the exterior size of the car - which seem to follow the well trodden formula of within two generations becoming the size of the next model up in the manufacturers range. For a car with sporty pretensions I imagine the i5 is too wide to be able to thread down B roads without too much care as to vehicles coming in the opposite direction. I understand the safety issues that have led to small cars having to get bigger but cars bigger classes just seem to get bigger to accommodate the obese size of their occupants. Another worry I have is all that battery weight must reduce the nimbleness of the car. So overall I guess the i5 will be great for those long weekend runs to the South of France but is it so good for negotiating the B roads of West Sussex or the streets of Chichester?

  • @briangriffiths114
    @briangriffiths114 8 месяцев назад +1

    When I bought a small EV, all I cared about was; how it looked, the drivetrain, efficiency, crash protection, servicing costs and reliability. The tech was of zero interest to me as all this fiddling with the tablet distracts the driver from concentrating on the road, and it has remained switched off apart from changing the charging rate when the car is parked.

    • @4literv6
      @4literv6 8 месяцев назад

      Yet the morons over here with me in the us bemoan we can't spend ANYTHING on ev infastructure. Yet we make 6x the GDP per capita as the Chinese and gave Ukraine over 150billion in the last 18months.
      Plus we spent like 10trillion on covid and pandemic related b.s. since early 2020 now. 😑

      @@PetrolPed I found the sill so wide made it hard to get in and boot space barely big enough for a small office breifcase. I have never driven one though. Fairly recently I saw and heard one being given the beans away from my local dealership. Never realised how cool it sounds. It wheelspun up the road looked real quick. Very un 120mpg like. Grown to really like the look of them too. Though as I say I haven’t driven one so if underwhelming then they are not what I was thinking they would be. I recall the lead guy on top gear raving about one saying he preffered it to the M3 of the time.
