I left the Catholic Church when I was 17yo (now 41yo) because of the CSA that was being covered up. I became a JW because I thought they did not tolerate that. Earlier this year, I found out they were covering it up the entire time, even before I came in. The ARC was what woke me up. I found myself doing a lot of research to validate what I was seeing. I was even told I was obsessed with it. Personally, I don’t care if the elders want to DF me. I don’t care if people shun me. The elders know that I have looked at “apostate” material and that I am never coming back. I refused to hide that I was looking into these things. I refuse to be judged and told something is wrong with me for following common sense, reasoning and logic. No one can prove Watchtower was chosen by God in 1919. GB members cannot prove they are spirit anointed. Elders cannot prove they are spirit appointed. I was going by “works”. Their works have proven to be detrimental and that has been proven by a massive amount of evidence. Man has dominated man to his injury. This so applies to those running the organization. They replace hellfire with armageddon. They replace Pope with Governing Body. They replace excommunication with disfellowshipping. They replace bloodguilt by murder in war to bloodguilt of forcing people to follow a faulty blood doctrine that nature and biology invalidate (breast milk contains millions of white blood cells that babies consume to build up their immunity). They state they don’t hate people and have love among themselves, but call people who no longer believe mentally diseased apostates. They say not to judge those at doors in service but quickly judge when baptized ones naturally questions beliefs. When you look into the true past of this organization, it quickly becomes clear just how political things truly are. The reason things change is not due to “new light” but “new men” who want to make things their way. Funny how the Faithful and Discreet Slave is nothing more than a parable when you read it in context. Not to mention it is never mentioned anywhere else other than a Gospel account of that parable. Also, if it was so important to get the food at the proper time from the slave, why does its identity keep changing? Wouldn’t God want us to truly know so we would not be mislead?

I'm in the same situation I woke up around July of 2019 and I stopped connecting to the meetings since the pandemic started like in February or March. These last few months I've been fully deprogrammed I even got a better job and bought a house. I'll see if I can get away by fading but if it's not possible I'm fine with dissociating at least I was able to wake up my sister in the meanwhile we're both in the same situation. My parents still in but hopefully they wake up in the near future with so many witnesses leaving it's a time bomb.

Looking forward to the next one. I’ve been out and shunned for a couple years. Tho not Dfd at this point. I’m very open about not being a witness anymore, I personally listen to exjw material daily but it’s took me over a year after leaving to do so... now I have a grip on my own life and happiness so I feel comfortable listening to it regularly. It was and will always be a huge part of my life, and my mind.
I'm 64, nearly, and I've been out since my mid twenties, and I only miss some of the people, but I have put them and those relationships into perspective. Surely, it will always be with me, but I haven't worried about it in decades. I had been raised in, gone to brooklyn bethel, etc., and had to get kicked out later for what I did not do than any thing I had done - and, I suspect that was orchestrated by my ex, whom I had adored. Took me a couple of years before I accepted that. Life goes on, gets both better and worse, and we all deal with those changes, appreciating some regretting others, but always learning. You will do fine, I have every confidence in you and your good heart.

Really loved that NPR helped you wake up! NPR played a role in me waking up too. I had a lot of doubts but I was all in, so I left it in Jehovah’s hands. Then one day I was listening to NPR and they where interviewing a scientist. He read an excerpt of a book he wrote. I was driving and I had to pull over because I had just read a quote from his book in the Awake collaborating creationism. However the author read the whole paragraph and it was the opposite of what WT claimed it said. I went home and looked up the transcript and the link to a portion of the scientist book, and the WT article and just started bawling because there was no way this could have been an accident. They purposefully chopped up the quote. Then the shelve came crashing down. I 💗NPR!
This editing quotes by scientists to mean the opposite of what the science means is very very common way of giving out deliberate misinformation. This is why scientists and scientifically literate people commonly say that creationists lie.
I love listening to other ex-JW´s stories. Many of your experiences are very relatable to me and I am so proud of what you have accomplished, since I know how difficult it is. I also remember breaking down and crying at work when I was already having serious doubts, praying to Jehovah that if he sees anything valuable in me, anything at all, then I am begging him, to please save my life and strengthen my faith again. Well, turns out I was just talking to myself then :D I am so happy that I managed to escape this cult years ago. If anyone else is in a similar situation now, just know that you are capable of much more than you possibly think, I believe in you, you are not alone, and you can do it too!

Thanks bro for this video. I too hope to share my story one day, in a sense the pages are still being written. I been “free” for about 3 months now. The reason I stayed is quite complex and I hope to find someone that I can relate to one day. I would argue that I been mentally out for the past decade. I’m originally from Mexico and together with my family we moved to the US illegally when I was 7. Got baptized at 13. Thus when I returned to my home country at age 17 without my parents as they had stayed in the US. The government of the US put a ban on me disallowing me to renter the US for the next 10 years. I am yet to be allowed to visit my parents since my visa has not been approved as of yet. In the organization I became an elder at 25, handled sensitive judicial cases, gave convention talks, regular pioneer, construction volunteer, my face is even on RUclips because my congregation recorded the Spanish zoom meetings for the branch and someone uploaded it to RUclips. From the outside I was physically active but mentally never there. The thing that made me stay was the same reason that made me leave. The promise of the paradise and a world without borders resonated with me, in my mind it solved my biggest problem of injustice. In my eyes the US government is punishing me for a decision my parents took while I was still a minor. The organization would never let injustices like this happen! I was sure of that! As I read the elders book and found the consequences for disassociating, and watched the Royal commission hearings it all broke down for me. The same thing I been angry about of “the world” is the same thing the organization does and worse, have no plans to change. They break up families, protect evil people, and build strong fear for you to leave. Thankfully when I spoke to my parents about my issue and reasons for leaving, they took it well. They respect me and love me. Every day I come to the realization that yes, the REAL WORLD is scarier than I imagined but it’s also so much more beautiful than I thought. Stay strong everyone!

My husband and I were both born in , raised in, both 3rd generation in. For both of us we were just talking about this last night oddly enough. The day after we decided we were done we both said we felt so much better. We didn't have that intense constant shame, the feeling of never being good enough no matter what we did. We had known each other most of our lives and had gone our own paths and even left at different times. We reconnected after both of us were out and we were friends once again. We had never before looked at each other in any way except friendship but eventually our friendship became a relationship and we have now been together going on 11 years and raised two amazing children outside of the organization. You will get there to the point staying in and being miserable will no longer be worth keeping your family and friends. It is hard, it isn't easy and there are days I miss my family a lot but I'm so much happier outside of the high control lying , hypocritical organization. Take care and don't stay in just because of family.
Subscribed!!! You are such an amazing speaker. I also love, love, love! Your sense of humour. I am the only 'JW' in my family. I was a fading PIMO when Zoom started. It has made it so easy to fade. Some people I was close to do sometimes look for me. I have not said anything much to them. Most members of the congregation barely speak to me and I am fine with it. I keep myself pretty busy, I have gone back to college- part time. I have also increased my hours at work, started making new friends- it's hard right now coz of C-19 but it is a start. I watch Exjw videos and also alot of none related content that I find enjoyable on RUclips. Oh, and I have just started a small business. Yes, I am keeping myself very, very busy.
Thankyou for taking the time to do this video, my wife and I enjoyed it and look forward to more. We've been out for 30 months and are continually reassessing and processing, 50 years of control takes it's toll! You made many good points. Above all, we are very happy where we are.

I’ve been out since August of 2019. I truly appreciate the point that you make that you have to come out of the rabbit hole. A personal unfortunate incident pushed me out the door. Although I’ve always questioned doctrine that wasn’t why I left. The ARC and learning that they were a NGO with the United Nations is what started me to look into any and all doctrine that I ever questioned. I was deep down the hole but I’m coming out of it. I’m just getting to the point where I’m letting go but I know I have a long way to go.

That was my exact path out. That video with the woman admonishing the sister over just turning down the bracelet made me roll my eyes SO HARD! That would never happen LOL And I agree with you. This is so great and on point I to had to fight to be removed as a MS many meetings trying to get me to remain public talks in and out of my hall and service meeting parts being groomed for being an elder. I surfed the internet durning meetings at the end of my run. I am thankful that my wife and I left together!

I can relate to some of the things you had to say. At one point I was so unhappy about all the little things that started bothering me. Then I found out so many other things big things. After Baptism I found my joy dwindled because I felt abandoned unloved I couldn't get a straight answer about any of my deeper questions and concerns! I left that organization angry...and almost not believing in God. I had recently became interested and went to a few meetings and memorials. It was the same but the spirit there wasn't the same. Something seemed not right. Subdued or something. I still believe in the Lord and the Father... they will never change! Jesus says who will and will not inherit the Kingdom. Galatians 5:19-21 it also says the meek will inherit the earth. Period all of the other "Watchtower stuff" is the words of men who are uninspired and supposedly anointed with God's Holy Spirit yet make so many mistakes about things never apologizes and does not have the decency to work with authorities to make the community safer for all children. It really bothers me and of course I don't want to return! Now that I know so much!

That they didn't know the answer to hard questions often didn't bother me - I'm used to be being smarter than most even if I'm not more wise - and I put things on my shelf. Before long I needed a closet. Not too long after that, I needed to rent a storage compartment to have the room I needed to stack the stuff that wasn't getting answered and not dealt with. But, I knew I wasn't wiser than many older brothers and sisters, so I bided my time and put them off. Became that brother you could depend on when needed to step up and handle any talk on short notice. Gave several Sunday one hour public talks, etc., and got to the point where I could do field service without books - could even do it with out the Bible if the person at the door had a problem with the Bible. One of the worst (and, eventually, one of the best) was talking to a young mother who had recently lost her baby to one of those all too common childhood deadly diseases ... the best I could do was offer my telephone number and promise to be ready to listen to her and promise yuo not push any message, to be only a person she could rely on to hear. She never called - I suppose and hope she had plenty to do and others better qualified to hear and help her and really had no use for a young man. I did go back after a few days, but she had moved. Always hoped she got the support she needed, but I guess I'll never know.
It got me a bit no apologies.. Meekness didn't go all the way..seemed dome were arrogant. The governing body don't apologise for preaching or seek permission to do it from huma government because they're authorised by God himself !! Matt 24:14..; 28:19,20. Authority is key. Rev 11:5 & 6 is a lot of leeway for ' the two witnesses.' Interesting name...particularly so ..in the last days. Negative consequences MUST be part of the picture .. Some of today's bad effects were sown earlier on..and only now being uncovered.. With Internet technology.. They knew.. They knew.. Daniel prophesied..that the words sealed up til the time of the end.. Now. They won't apologise..They're God authorised !! And with those earlier seeds now observable as TRUE KNOWLEDGE WILL BE ABUNDANT....rove about in it.. Etc.. Remarkable.. I come to the idea that do many bad things are being reported.. They could well be ' the Man of Lawlessnes' foretold to appear before the end. It's a matter of perspective.. Isa 54:17. The ARC troubled me..extra sensitive l guess as a witness..child sex abuse with its horrendous after effects ..and the hurt caused when ones are not believed..the offender is sllowwed to remain in the cong..but the victim is put out !! Crazy. But l could see from my personal experience. .it was a UNITY issue. Strange..but that was the way the policy was .. Unjust..Hell yeah Cong members left unprotected..as nothing should be publicised til a person is proven by two witnesses/ reports ! By this means however,.objectively It has created a scenario which raises a controversy. Publicity..negative though it is.. Yet..they followed scripture..closely. God must approve of it.. Compare to the way other organisations handle this epidemic of paedophilia. . They don't limit the reports to two.. France just revealed 300 000 cases over 70 years..one priest caught admission of 20 cases. If only the hierarchy acted to remove the wicked man from their midst after the first 2 witnesses !! That would have avoided 18 victims ! Marriage was forbidden too by some...totally unscriptural.. High ranking titles..putting men on a pedestal..a combination of factors ignoring inspired scripture ..words from jesus and Paul ! Well how God thinks of two children.. one listens the other doesn't and as a result suffers terrible consequences ..the one thst listened gets a pay on their back..maybe gets treated differently..gets away with a bit of leeway in other things.. Rev 11:5 & 6.. Leeway. Diplomatic immunity. Not a crime..move on.. nothing to see No apologies. .
The 2014 rant by Tony Morris played a huge part in my waking up. I had already began to doubt, but when this guy spewed out his vomit, I was soooo uncomfortable. I left the org three years later. Not soon enough.

My father is a Jehovah's witness. He started with them when I was about 6 years old. He disowned me when I was 14, because my mother had custody of me and he felt that I would be lost to Armageddon and therefore had no reason to have a relationship with me. That was 30 years ago. It has had a life long impact on me.

Even though I could never fully understand his reasoning behind what he did, as I am now a divorced father and could never abandon my children, at least I can begin to see how his mind was manipulated, his personal weaknesses were exploited, and insecurities were preyed on.

Great video, I have seen so many folks leave the organization these past few years. So many of us are waking up. I have to suck it up and have had to for 2 years now. I woke up and stopped attending meetings 7 years ago but wound up coming back because of my family situation as well as my health. They know I don't care anymore but they think I can totally embrace it if I allowed it to. I told them that will never happen now. That's how it goes, perhaps one day I'll make my break off complete. Hopefully without having to get DFd or DA.
Are you me? My God, this was so similar to my waking up process except the last convention I attended was Love Never Fails. I did the same thing where I was crying but because it all felt so fake and hypocritical, especially since the soft shunning had just started for me. Instead of the Alt right recruitment tactics, it was MLMs, and Amber Scorah on NPR was the first apostate thing I read and I was so surprised at how benign it was. Lloyd Evans interview with Howie Rutledge Tran was my exjwfifth video lol. He was so kind. And I had had issues with the treatment of lgbtq people, too. Thank you for this video :)

My last involvement was the Melbourne International Convention November 2019. The last talk from a gov body member about "lets not ask things, this is not the time to ask whats the accurate pronunciation of gods name blah blah blah" made me not finish the program and walk out the stadium. My head was heavy but floating. I felt like I was deceived my entire life.

12:05 "you train yourself to not think" Truer words have never been spoken as it pertains to Witnesses. I remember in service, an elder and I were having a conversation about a scriptural interpretation from the Society (basically questioning it, to be frank), and he literally said: "I think too much. That's what's wrong with me now!" It's sad when JWs feel they have to shut off their brains just so they don't go against the "slave".
Listening to this while I'm working on an animation. I've spent the last three years coming to terms with the loss I felt from stepping away from the JW faith. I was never active in the Kingdom Hall after 11 years old, and I'm nearly 30 now. But I held on to my faith for a long time. I've probably been questioning things since highschool, because by then I was allowed to have friends. For a lot of my childhood I was not allowed to have friends over, or go to their houses unless it was another witness. Most of the kids I hung out with, my grandparents didn't like much. They thought they were bad because they didn't behave like the kids at the kingdom hall. (they were normal kids) That changed when I got into highschool, and because I was JW they would always ask me questions and like... None of my answers ever held up to scrutiny. So I'd go home upset and ask for answers that my family and the congregation just couldn't answer. I never got a straight answer, and I was always confused. I stopped identifying as JW by my junior year, but I had;t turned my back on it. I still defended the church and believed their teachings. I just didn't feel like I deserved to call myself a JW if I had to keep questioning things. (Imagine thinking asking questions is a bad thing.) By 21 I realized I didn't have a personality of my own. The me I was "allowed" to be was nobody. Even with my interests in Horror and Art and Videogames... Those things were steadily discouraged. Because my job was to be a wife and future mother, and to set a good example for the young girls in my family. It was... rough... by 23 I started questioning my gender, among other things. By 26 I had come out as genderfluid (I identify as a man now). It's... been really hard to step away from everything. A lot of what I feel is anger, for being lied to. But also, a disturbingly deep, deep fear of the indoctrination my baby sister has had to deal with. Not directly from the church, fortunately. But we have family who is very... vocal about the faith and she's a good kid so she listens and she took a lot of it to heart. I don't know how to undo everything that she's learned, or if I even want to. She's turning 10 soon and I just... DO NOT want her to get sucked into the JW faith. I wasn't in it very long and it did a lot to my self esteem, and I am still recovering from my experiences in the church as a child. The blender metaphor really makes a lot of sense. .. Idk... Thanks for the video. It's nice to hear other people who are still healing and slowly getting away from the faith. It makes me feel less alone.

Yes this was one of the weirdest talks I ever heard too. When he talked about Yoga pants I thought;- this guy doesn't know that these pants are designed for excersice? That servant talk was such bull. I was working at Warwick for 70 hrs a week and then my assigned congregation elders started badgering me every meeting about “doing more for Jehovah.”

I would put things on that shelf. Many things. Worked a full time job, three small children, hardly ever on time getting to the meetings. I could usually see the back of everybody's head. Anyway, just looking around at the other believers, how convinced they seemed to be, helped to keep the doubts on the shelf. @ the 6:30 mark concerning supposed prophecies - "...there is almost no hint that any of these interpretations are true..." Exactly! I have often told believers who tout all the "fulfilled" and "yet to be fulfilled" prophecies found in the bible, that they only way anyone could say that these are prophecies specific to (insert time, place, person, action here) is if they were taught to believe that by some minister or book, who likely was taught the same thing by some earlier minister or book. No one reading these bible verses today would come up with that on their own.

I did something similar and it was going to be my advice to you - pick up a physics book and read it with a new mindset. Incredible. I also have been a little obsessed lately with listening to podcasts from Bible scholars. I went through the deprogramming with Lloyd and company, but eventually realized that to truly be free I needed to understand the Bible more accurately, not from a doomsday cult. I left the Catholic Church when I was 17yo (now 41yo) because of the CSA that was being covered up. I became a JW because I thought they did not tolerate that. Earlier this year, I found out they were covering it up the entire time, even before I came in. The ARC was what woke me up. I found myself doing a lot of research to validate what I was seeing. I was even told I was obsessed with it.
Personally, I don’t care if the elders want to DF me. I don’t care if people shun me. The elders know that I have looked at “apostate” material and that I am never coming back. I refused to hide that I was looking into these things. I refuse to be judged and told something is wrong with me for following common sense, reasoning and logic. No one can prove Watchtower was chosen by God in 1919. GB members cannot prove they are spirit anointed. Elders cannot prove they are spirit appointed. I was going by “works”. Their works have proven to be detrimental and that has been proven by a massive amount of evidence. Man has dominated man to his injury. This so applies to those running the organization.
They replace hellfire with armageddon.
They replace Pope with Governing Body.
They replace excommunication with disfellowshipping.
They replace bloodguilt by murder in war to bloodguilt of forcing people to follow a faulty blood doctrine that nature and biology invalidate (breast milk contains millions of white blood cells that babies consume to build up their immunity).
They state they don’t hate people and have love among themselves, but call people who no longer believe mentally diseased apostates.
They say not to judge those at doors in service but quickly judge when baptized ones naturally questions beliefs.
When you look into the true past of this organization, it quickly becomes clear just how political things truly are. The reason things change is not due to “new light” but “new men” who want to make things their way. Funny how the Faithful and Discreet Slave is nothing more than a parable when you read it in context. Not to mention it is never mentioned anywhere else other than a Gospel account of that parable. Also, if it was so important to get the food at the proper time from the slave, why does its identity keep changing? Wouldn’t God want us to truly know so we would not be mislead?

I'm in the same situation I woke up around July of 2019 and I stopped connecting to the meetings since the pandemic started like in February or March. These last few months I've been fully deprogrammed I even got a better job and bought a house. I'll see if I can get away by fading but if it's not possible I'm fine with dissociating at least I was able to wake up my sister in the meanwhile we're both in the same situation. My parents still in but hopefully they wake up in the near future with so many witnesses leaving it's a time bomb.
Unfortunately, there will always be a cult core who will never wake up. There are still a small core of Russell Bible Students to this day!

I'm 64, nearly, and I've been out since my mid twenties, and I only miss some of the people, but I have put them and those relationships into perspective. Surely, it will always be with me, but I haven't worried about it in decades. I had been raised in, gone to brooklyn bethel, etc., and had to get kicked out later for what I did not do than any thing I had done - and, I suspect that was orchestrated by my ex, whom I had adored. Took me a couple of years before I accepted that. Life goes on, gets both better and worse, and we all deal with those changes, appreciating some regretting others, but always learning. You will do fine, I have every confidence in you and your good heart.

Really loved that NPR helped you wake up! NPR played a role in me waking up too. I had a lot of doubts but I was all in, so I left it in Jehovah’s hands. Then one day I was listening to NPR and they where interviewing a scientist. He read an excerpt of a book he wrote. I was driving and I had to pull over because I had just read a quote from his book in the Awake collaborating creationism. However the author read the whole paragraph and it was the opposite of what WT claimed it said. I went home and looked up the transcript and the link to a portion of the scientist book, and the WT article and just started bawling because there was no way this could have been an accident. They purposefully chopped up the quote. Then the shelve came crashing down. I 💗NPR!

This editing quotes by scientists to mean the opposite of what the science means is very very common way of giving out deliberate misinformation. This is why scientists and scientifically literate people commonly say that creationists lie.
I love listening to other ex-JW´s stories. Many of your experiences are very relatable to me and I am so proud of what you have accomplished, since I know how difficult it is. I also remember breaking down and crying at work when I was already having serious doubts, praying to Jehovah that if he sees anything valuable in me, anything at all, then I am begging him, to please save my life and strengthen my faith again. Well, turns out I was just talking to myself then :D I am so happy that I managed to escape this cult years ago. If anyone else is in a similar situation now, just know that you are capable of much more than you possibly think, I believe in you, you are not alone, and you can do it too!

Thanks bro for this video. I too hope to share my story one day, in a sense the pages are still being written. I been “free” for about 3 months now. The reason I stayed is quite complex and I hope to find someone that I can relate to one day. I would argue that I been mentally out for the past decade.
I’m originally from Mexico and together with my family we moved to the US illegally when I was 7. Got baptized at 13. Thus when I returned to my home country at age 17 without my parents as they had stayed in the US. The government of the US put a ban on me disallowing me to renter the US for the next 10 years. I am yet to be allowed to visit my parents since my visa has not been approved as of yet.
In the organization I became an elder at 25, handled sensitive judicial cases, gave convention talks, regular pioneer, construction volunteer, my face is even on RUclips because my congregation recorded the Spanish zoom meetings for the branch and someone uploaded it to RUclips. From the outside I was physically active but mentally never there. The thing that made me stay was the same reason that made me leave. The promise of the paradise and a world without borders resonated with me, in my mind it solved my biggest problem of injustice. In my eyes the US government is punishing me for a decision my parents took while I was still a minor. The organization would never let injustices like this happen! I was sure of that! As I read the elders book and found the consequences for disassociating, and watched the Royal commission hearings it all broke down for me.
The same thing I been angry about of “the world” is the same thing the organization does and worse, have no plans to change. They break up families, protect evil people, and build strong fear for you to leave. Thankfully when I spoke to my parents about my issue and reasons for leaving, they took it well. They respect me and love me. Every day I come to the realization that yes, the REAL WORLD is scarier than I imagined but it’s also so much more beautiful than I thought. Stay strong everyone!

My husband and I were both born in , raised in, both 3rd generation in. For both of us we were just talking about this last night oddly enough. The day after we decided we were done we both said we felt so much better. We didn't have that intense constant shame, the feeling of never being good enough no matter what we did. We had known each other most of our lives and had gone our own paths and even left at different times. We reconnected after both of us were out and we were friends once again. We had never before looked at each other in any way except friendship but eventually our friendship became a relationship and we have now been together going on 11 years and raised two amazing children outside of the organization. You will get there to the point staying in and being miserable will no longer be worth keeping your family and friends. It is hard, it isn't easy and there are days I miss my family a lot but I'm so much happier outside of the high control lying , hypocritical organization. Take care and don't stay in just because of family.

I am the only 'JW' in my family. I was a fading PIMO when Zoom started. It has made it so easy to fade. Some people I was close to do sometimes look for me. I have not said anything much to them. Most members of the congregation barely speak to me and I am fine with it.
I keep myself pretty busy, I have gone back to college- part time. I have also increased my hours at work, started making new friends- it's hard right now coz of C-19 but it is a start. I watch Exjw videos and also alot of none related content that I find enjoyable on RUclips.
Oh, and I have just started a small business. Yes, I am keeping myself very, very busy.

I’ve been out since August of 2019. I truly appreciate the point that you make that you have to come out of the rabbit hole. A personal unfortunate incident pushed me out the door. Although I’ve always questioned doctrine that wasn’t why I left. The ARC and learning that they were a NGO with the United Nations is what started me to look into any and all doctrine that I ever questioned. I was deep down the hole but I’m coming out of it. I’m just getting to the point where I’m letting go but I know I have a long way to go.

This is so great and on point I to had to fight to be removed as a MS many meetings trying to get me to remain public talks in and out of my hall and service meeting parts being groomed for being an elder. I surfed the internet durning meetings at the end of my run. I am thankful that my wife and I left together!

This video is outstanding!! I am not nor never have been a witness mygrandmother, mom , and sister were/are I've tried to talk to me sis which just ended up in a big fight. Mom and gmom are deceased. And I know my sis is holding on to the idea of seeing them again. It just kills me that she has wasted her life on lies No education , no children no savings etc.

I can relate to some of the things you had to say. At one point I was so unhappy about all the little things that started bothering me. Then I found out so many other things big things. After Baptism I found my joy dwindled because I felt abandoned unloved I couldn't get a straight answer about any of my deeper questions and concerns! I left that organization angry...and almost not believing in God. I had recently became interested and went to a few meetings and memorials. It was the same but the spirit there wasn't the same. Something seemed not right. Subdued or something. I still believe in the Lord and the Father... they will never change! Jesus says who will and will not inherit the Kingdom. Galatians 5:19-21 it also says the meek will inherit the earth. Period all of the other "Watchtower stuff" is the words of men who are uninspired and supposedly anointed with God's Holy Spirit yet make so many mistakes about things never apologizes and does not have the decency to work with authorities to make the community safer for all children. It really bothers me and of course I don't want to return! Now that I know so much!

That they didn't know the answer to hard questions often didn't bother me - I'm used to be being smarter than most even if I'm not more wise - and I put things on my shelf. Before long I needed a closet. Not too long after that, I needed to rent a storage compartment to have the room I needed to stack the stuff that wasn't getting answered and not dealt with. But, I knew I wasn't wiser than many older brothers and sisters, so I bided my time and put them off. Became that brother you could depend on when needed to step up and handle any talk on short notice. Gave several Sunday one hour public talks, etc., and got to the point where I could do field service without books - could even do it with out the Bible if the person at the door had a problem with the Bible. One of the worst (and, eventually, one of the best) was talking to a young mother who had recently lost her baby to one of those all too common childhood deadly diseases ... the best I could do was offer my telephone number and promise to be ready to listen to her and promise yuo not push any message, to be only a person she could rely on to hear. She never called - I suppose and hope she had plenty to do and others better qualified to hear and help her and really had no use for a young man. I did go back after a few days, but she had moved. Always hoped she got the support she needed, but I guess I'll never know.

My father is a Jehovah's witness. He started with them when I was about 6 years old. He disowned me when I was 14, because my mother had custody of me and he felt that I would be lost to Armageddon and therefore had no reason to have a relationship with me. That was 30 years ago. It has had a life long impact on me.

Great video, I have seen so many folks leave the organization these past few years. So many of us are waking up. I have to suck it up and have had to for 2 years now. I woke up and stopped attending meetings 7 years ago but wound up coming back because of my family situation as well as my health. They know I don't care anymore but they think I can totally embrace it if I allowed it to. I told them that will never happen now. That's how it goes, perhaps one day I'll make my break off complete. Hopefully without having to get DFd or DA.
Are you me? My God, this was so similar to my waking up process except the last convention I attended was Love Never Fails. I did the same thing where I was crying but because it all felt so fake and hypocritical, especially since the soft shunning had just started for me. Instead of the Alt right recruitment tactics, it was MLMs, and Amber Scorah on NPR was the first apostate thing I read and I was so surprised at how benign it was. Lloyd Evans interview with Howie Rutledge Tran was my exjwfifth video lol. He was so kind. And I had had issues with the treatment of lgbtq people, too. Thank you for this video :)

Truer words have never been spoken as it pertains to Witnesses. I remember in service, an elder and I were having a conversation about a scriptural interpretation from the Society (basically questioning it, to be frank), and he literally said: "I think too much. That's what's wrong with me now!"

Listening to this while I'm working on an animation. I've spent the last three years coming to terms with the loss I felt from stepping away from the JW faith. I was never active in the Kingdom Hall after 11 years old, and I'm nearly 30 now. But I held on to my faith for a long time. I've probably been questioning things since highschool, because by then I was allowed to have friends.
For a lot of my childhood I was not allowed to have friends over, or go to their houses unless it was another witness. Most of the kids I hung out with, my grandparents didn't like much. They thought they were bad because they didn't behave like the kids at the kingdom hall. (they were normal kids) That changed when I got into highschool, and because I was JW they would always ask me questions and like... None of my answers ever held up to scrutiny. So I'd go home upset and ask for answers that my family and the congregation just couldn't answer. I never got a straight answer, and I was always confused.
I stopped identifying as JW by my junior year, but I had;t turned my back on it. I still defended the church and believed their teachings. I just didn't feel like I deserved to call myself a JW if I had to keep questioning things. (Imagine thinking asking questions is a bad thing.) By 21 I realized I didn't have a personality of my own. The me I was "allowed" to be was nobody. Even with my interests in Horror and Art and Videogames... Those things were steadily discouraged. Because my job was to be a wife and future mother, and to set a good example for the young girls in my family.
It was... rough... by 23 I started questioning my gender, among other things. By 26 I had come out as genderfluid (I identify as a man now). It's... been really hard to step away from everything. A lot of what I feel is anger, for being lied to. But also, a disturbingly deep, deep fear of the indoctrination my baby sister has had to deal with. Not directly from the church, fortunately. But we have family who is very... vocal about the faith and she's a good kid so she listens and she took a lot of it to heart. I don't know how to undo everything that she's learned, or if I even want to. She's turning 10 soon and I just... DO NOT want her to get sucked into the JW faith.
I wasn't in it very long and it did a lot to my self esteem, and I am still recovering from my experiences in the church as a child.

And the first thing I did that week was buy my yoga pants. Bought many more ever since. Why will a guy that I don't even know tell me what to wear?

I would put things on that shelf. Many things. Worked a full time job, three small children, hardly ever on time getting to the meetings. I could usually see the back of everybody's head. Anyway, just looking around at the other believers, how convinced they seemed to be, helped to keep the doubts on the shelf. Do you think that could be the real reason we had to have all those damn assemblies?

@ the 6:30 mark concerning supposed prophecies - "...there is almost no hint that any of these interpretations are true..." Exactly! I have often told believers who tout all the "fulfilled" and "yet to be fulfilled" prophecies found in the bible, that they only way anyone could say that these are prophecies specific to (insert time, place, person, action here) is if they were taught to believe that by some minister or book, who likely was taught the same thing by some earlier minister or book. No one reading these bible verses today would come up with that on their own.

I did something similar and it was going to be my advice to you - pick up a physics book and read it with a new mindset. Incredible. I also have been a little obsessed lately with listening to podcasts from Bible scholars. I went through the deprogramming with Lloyd and company, but eventually realized that to truly be free I needed to understand the Bible more accurately, not from a doomsday cult. I love listening to true experts regarding that time period and why parts of the Bible were written the way they were. You’re a very logical person, I look forward to your future videos.
