I live in KZN and have been to Oceans Mall. I had the same thoughts about the cell phone shops😂. My thoughts were that they need other key anchor stores that bring feet to the mall for the broader public. E.g Mr Price, etc. a small percentage of South Africans can afford the D&Gs of the world. The mall still needs to be able to operate and be a pleasant shopping experience.

I was born and raised in Durban but now I work and stay in Joburg since 2017. The funny thing is I felt Joburg is unnecessarily extra with style and other stuff to the point that wearing a fake brand is a thing when one could rather look stylish in their Mr Price. It really sounds like you are describing Joburg to me with the go big or go home😅.
How I wish the organizers and KZN tourism board could heed your advice.
I 100% agree with you there Lebo, i visited Ocean's mall and unfortunately I was disappointed and did not feel like I was walking into luxury when i went to their platinum walk. they need to rethink and not mix LSMs. Sandton City Diamond screams luxury and the expereince matches it.

people who always go to this event some of them are not always satisfied but they always come back because they understand that in any event they will be some errors,they are there to enjoy not to look for small mistakes and make loud noise,even oscars you will find errors there,people should be praising Durban for always hosting such a big and successful event for so many years in such a small town,i just hope this kind of event can be move around provinces and see what happen maybe thats when youll realize how special Durban is

Great content and I really agree with you. Most event organizers don't concentrate on the fine details that will get people attending their events again in future. However I don't remember a MacG interview or hyping big spenders as he is actually known as a minimalist. Maybe he was too hash and hit home on the dogs party thing.❤
Thank you 😊 Mac G is doing a good job. He has built a brilliant platform, so by virtue of the guests he has he is inadvertently endorsing certain cultures & people. Which he has every right to do. Most people don’t get the dog mum thing 😅 so I don’t mind when people don’t get it or like it. I embrace the different opinions

Brands and influencers(not everyone) are unfortunately selling lies to our teenagers or future generation. Alcohol and partying are becoming rich culture that would destroying the future.

I’ve only ever attended Dbn July once as well and I vowed to never go back. I did not see the value for money at the event. And you’re right, the parties are LIT! I would rather fly to the city for the parties as well and not the actual event. KZN has a lot of POTENTIAL, it’s even so hard to find a decent looking Airbnb or resort 😫 they are really sleeping on themselves
the problem with us we like to hype international brands and forget ours , infact even if GUcci can be in location i dont care
its ok you wont attend anymore,and there is lot of events in different provinces and if im not mistaken we have 9 provinces please can you try them i want to see something, and after that please come back and tell us about you expirience
They need a new approach in order to keep Durban July to the level of its name. Otherwise nje laphaya kudliwa umgwinyo/ ubumnandi qha, spending alot of money on liquor, hotels,outfits gals etc. Hey it works for some, some have outgrown Durban July and for some have found ways to make money[business wise], it's sad that some spend borrowed money so they can be seen attending Durban July to look the part. Ku Deep 😂.

i understand you didnt enjoy the event because people go to events for different expiriences ,but when you start to compare people from Joburg and durban i get confuse ,because in Durban people who live there most of them are from Durban ,but in Joburg you got people coming from different Provinces because its a place of business, i always laugh when i hear a person say he's from joburg ,there is a different between being born there and being from there,you cant say you from joburg but you parents are not from there
As someone who was born and raised in Joburg, I can confidently tell you that I’m being very specific when I say “people from joburg” they exist and they don’t fall into the crowds of people who are in joburg just to work and make money. It’s an entire community.
The enjoyment of the event was based on what was promised in the invitation. Those things were not met. so the expectations are born from what was promised not what was imagined🙏🏾
@@LeboLionSA i understand you were not setisfied ,but what does that have to do with people from Durban because that event is organize by different people , some of them are not even from Durban,and my my sister its ok you were born and raise in joburg thats why i said there is different between being born and being from there,if your parents ,your grandparents ,etc are from there then you are not only born and raise there but you from there,otherwise you will end up saying im from joburg but my parents are from northern cape
Thing is I don't agree with what you say about taste because I believe its unfair to say that buying luxury isn't fueled by the idea of excessive consumption. Most people buy luxury to show their status. Their consumption of luxury is rooted in the idea that they would like to show their excess wealth. It's even shown in some companies makerting startegy. Conspicuous consumption has given rise to the resale market too. A lot of the motivating reason behind owning certain clothes is inspired by what is signales to other people
People are fuelled by different reasons when they do buy luxury and some are motivated by conspicuous consumption.
I do however agree when you say that KZN needs to figure out what they are going to with Oceans mall.
