I believe Ronny Kohavi mostly uses excels. But I agree with you, if you don't know R or Python, it's almost impossible to find a DS job in tech companies.
@@pragmaticdata I have seen a neural network in excel. 😊 Kohavi also has a PhD in computer science from Stanford, and is the old guard. I work with some of those more experienced folks. They manage to do some pretty impressive work with excel, but good lord is it slow work that I always have to convert so it is usable for anything in prod. I’ll be done with 3 design iterations before that gent finishes cleaning. Nobody out of college is getting a DS job with Excel in under 1,000 applications, unless it is a tiny company with no data, or it is a poorly categorized analyst position. Not trying to be a hater or anything. I just think it is a little misleading for younger folks that will see this and not prepare prudently for their career in an insanely competitive field. I can switch between 10 different estimators in a day, build those into an ensemble approach, and parallelize the model runs so I can run through the chunked data through iterative routines with in-script SQL, and then script some jobs to run across different clients while I sleep. I haven’t opened excel since grad school. I’d venture that R or Python aren’t even adequate anymore. SQL additionally. Bonus points for C++ or Ruby, especially for the big leagues. And a masters in Stats or Comp Sci or DS…unless you have some stellar internships with a CS/DS/Math B.S. It isn’t 2015 anymore… most people aren’t even hiring people with less than 3-5 YOE.
This was so concise and helpful since I’m trying to get an entry level Data Science/Analytics job! No fluff, yet still great details. I like this style compared to other channels. Would love to keep seeing more videos like this. Thanks!
If it is excel and tableau, and never R or Python, that is a data analyst. You cannot do actual DS work with Excel.

Thank you! The best way to support us is to share our videos to your friends:)
For non-engineering background folks wanting to build up skills on writing production codes on the side, what are some good paths?
Good question. Let me ask my teammate and other technical data scientists and get some answers.
give linkedin handle in comment section to conect with this superb bro.
