I think we’re all just happy to see you looking like you feel better. 😊
AMEN!!
Yes!
The most important thing to be grateful for - Jessie and Baby P! 🙌🙌
Very curious about the pineapple casserole, would love the recipe 😋
Me too!
I second that ❤
There are a number of versions on line. Now that I’ve looked at them I’d give it a try since it’s described as kinda like a bread pudding. I put a little crushed pineapples into my cranberry sauce and that was delish. Edit: Someone commented that the Paula Dean recipe is the best, so I’m heading that way to make this for Christmas. It’ll match up to the pineapple on the ham ;))
same!
Same! Thanks
"When you are in the kitchen, you are better than Italian" I think people are glazing over how big of a compliment this was from him :')
The way Alessio speaks to you Jessi is so beautiful...& the way you respect him & look at him...is something I strive for in my marriage❤
I agree!
Such a beautiful comment ❤
@hollylooyeah❤
@picklevamp❤
I had that and lost it in my life time.
I love that you shared all your family traditions with us. Every family has their own unique foods and recipes. There is no right or wrong way to do things. You obviously cooked today with love in your heart and joy in your soul
The two of you are a dream team ❤! I admire how you are rooting for each other, so heartwarming again and again.
I think it is called "dressing" if it's outside the turkey and "stuffing" if it's inside the turkey. But, I doubt many people use this distinction all the time.
I'm with you in your understanding of which word for what. I hope you had a good one! Best to all!
Likewise. In the bird the stuffing gets moisture from the turkey juices. Made in a dish the dressing can get beautifully crisped if finished in the oven. I looooove dressing. I should make it more often instead of just for holidays.
I am a stuffing fan every time!
Down south it's dressing no matter if it's in the bird, outside of the bird, on the fork or in our mouths. 😊
Correct😊
Please make video for Pineapple Casserole. ❤
This Northerner never heard of a casserole with pineapple and cheese. Please post a video of how it's made.
This Texan never heard of a casserole with pineapple and cheese. Please post a video of how it's made.
@MilkHound😂😂 I'm from Tennessee and I'm hearing about this for the first time in my life but I'm making it for Christmas now. 😂
@JimBobH13😂 this southerner either, and I'm from the same state!!
Yes, please
The brown on the corn casserole will be the best part...
Drizzle a little honey on top...mmm...takes it to the next level.
Look at you go!!! Your off the couch and cooking! Hope you are well and get your menu ready for Christmas!!!
I love the love and respect you two have for each other. So sweet!
Jessi you are absolutely beautiful as a pregnant woman, you're glowing and you look overjoyed I so excited for you guys. Next year it'll be 3 at Thanksgiving. Isn't that so exciting?? ❤❤❤😊
Shes not pregnant!!!! Shes a freaking lyer dont u realize that. Its all fake
Shes not pregnant
@Countrygirl6969 where have you been ?? She's having a boy!!
@mariakortzits all fake to get more subscribers and likes i promise u the whole thing is completely fake the truth will come out soon i promise u
@Countrygirl6969 Yes she is! Watch their previous videos!
We are so happy that your nausea has abated enough so that you can cook like this. It looks like you are finally turning a corner regarding nausea...Thank God! You are truly glowing! Next Thanksgiving we will see the precious bundle of boy joy,
What a delight to see Jessi able to cook and enjoy food for Baby’s first Thanksgiving! Somehow he’s present though unseen and (indirectly) nourished by his Mama’s cooking. And what high praise from Alessio who said, ‘When you are in the kitchen (Jessi) you are better than Italian”!
I'm a mid-westerner home cook, widower, so now do everything instead of just "my share". I loved this video, have watched you guys since your early days, and your presentations have become so well-done, professional without the uber-polish, and your recipes looked wonderful. I know how much effort you put into that, as I had to do the same thing just over a week ago. I made as much as I could the night before, a BIG time and energy saver for Thursday, and I was able to use that extra energy to enjoy my own meal while sitting down with everyone else. I'll have to remember that plan for next year. You guys nailed the whole Thanksgiving meal vibe. Thanks for inviting us into your experience.
Great job, Jessi- especially considering how awful you had been feeling recently! Hope you all enjoyed it and are now getting some much deserved rest!
I so enjoy seeing the love you have for one another. Happy Thanksgiving.
Happy Holidays!!! Jesse, you are absolutely glowing!!! Just think, next year you'll have your precious boy with ya'll!!! May your Holidays be merry and bright!! ❤❤❤
Happy holidays to you too! Thank you so much for your sweet words! ❤️
@ThePasinisI'm arguing with countrygirl6969 about you being pregnant she claim her aunt is your nurse. I think shes looney tunes 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
I’m an Italian-American from Brooklyn, NY and I’ve never had a casserole in my life. I would love to see you make one!♥️
I’d love the recipe for the cheesy pineapple dish.
Im impressed with pregnancy brain, you did GREAT!!!! ❤❤
You’re a wise man! You loved everything!
Beautiful spread! And, apparently, very tasty too. The only thing I add would be gravy for the turkey and dressing.😊
Yes! Must Have Gravy!
❤❤❤AWWWWW!!!!! What a lovely video. Praying for a healthy pregnancy and delivery. Im thrilled for both of you.
Everything looks delicious! Happy to see that Jessi is comfortable around food again and that she was able to enjoy this amazing meal
I love that he loves it all. Hope you both had a blessed Thanksgiving. ❤
Grazie mille ❤️
Alessio is an adorable husband - oooing and ahhhhhing over every single dish Jessi made- and no wonder since she made everything from scratch!! I mean, even the breadcrumbs!!! Wow!!!! And yes - please give us the pineapple kugel casserole recipe!!!
What’s Pineapple Kugel?
@TheKat1959 casserole in Yiddish is Kugel. 😅
Obviously she is feeling much better! Killing it
Dinner looks lovely
IF you make your own cranberry sauce it's NOT a law that you can't add additional sugar if you feel it is too tart. Also cook it with orange juice instead of water (add orange zest also if you want).
That’s how I do it!
Yes!
I use port wine, brown sugar and dried cherries 😋
@blz1007I heard some people put jalapeños in for a kick…I might try that next time. 😂
@blz1007 that almost sounds good! Port! 😋
It's so good to see you feeling better, Jesse. You two are the sweetest couple. All the food looked absolutely delicious.
I'm coming over for leftovers.😉😊
Happy Thanksgiving!
NYer here, never heard of a pineapple cheese casserole. But I didn’t grow up with the other casseroles either. Our traditional thanksgiving is turkey, pan gravy, stuffing (we don’t call it dressing, no cornbread but includes crumbled sausage), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes (no marshmallows), and lots of assorted naked steamed or sautéd veggies with butter. And always jellied cranberry sauce, coming out shaped still like the can and cut in slices 🤣
I grew up in southern CT the first time I heard of pineapple casserole was when I moved to NC. For sweet potatoes I highly recommend Garam Masala
I love Green Bean casserole, but prefer any other vegetables as plain as possible. No marshmallows or sugar in sweet potatoes, please! Although crudite plate with dip makes things settle right.
I from the Northwest but also Nashville tn and the casserole are better in the south. You got to try them
Oh yes, PLEASE share the pineapple casserole recipe. I want to get that reaction from my bf!! Love you guys.
My family from Vermont served Turkey, with bread stuffing (lots of butter and seasonings), squash, mashed potatoes and turkey gravy, and biscuits. Pickled beets, pickles, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, mashed turnips, carrots, and corn. Pumpkin pie, Apple Pie, and a jello salad mold served with whipped cream. We no longer make the jello salad or mashed turnips as the older family members have passed on, the younger generations don't appreciate it as much.
I loved mash turnips I think Thanksgiving is the only time I make it though
Everyone's Thanksgiving Feast is a little different. This looks amazing to me! Great job Jessie, I would definitely give thanks, and dig in!
Pick up a large toaster oven you can set up on the counter when you are doing holiday cooking. You can get one or two dishes in there while the main oven is full
Looks delicious. Wow, so many kinds of casseroles!
With my NC & PA heritage of cooking, my parents had turkey, ham, stuffing (dried/stale bread cubes, sauteed onions & celery, seasoning, broth, etc), mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, sweet potatoes (canned, with cinnamon sugar sprinkled over), deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, chocolate (pudding) pie, & cheesecake w/ cherry topping.
We have had relatives bring a 7 layer salad, which is a nice touch, even if different.
For my NC household, I added a few dishes: fresh sweet potato casserole (w/ brown sugar, cinnamon, butter & marshmallows topping), a few extra plain baked sweet potatoes, green bean casserole (fried onion box recipe w/o cheese) as well as the regular green beans, a butternut squash casserole (by Giada de Laurentiis' recipe), and croissants. I also often add a brown sugar pecan pie, and braided fresh apple/cranberry strudel. Sometimes I have some more tang with a plate of pickles & olives. And we had some chocolates & fresh nuts w/ crackers in the center of the table to snack on before and afterwards.
While I've never heard of pineapple casserole I'd absolutely try it. Hope you guys had a great thanksgiving!
Never heard of pineapple casserole might need to look up that recipe! If this channel changes into a family cooking vlog channel I fully support
It is fantastic!
Pineapple casserole is also good with ham.
I'd say especially ham.
76 year old widow here, he loves you so much, it easy to see! You are fortunate that he tries all the unfamiliar foods. My hubby was not adventurous and didn't try many new dishes I prepared. Made it very limited in what to make.
I’ve been away from your channel for a while, but I’ve followed your tough road to get pregnant. Imagine my joy and surprise to see that you guys are having a baby! Tears! I’m back and will follow you from now on! I’m going to cry when I see the little one! I’m so happy for you both!
Hey guys. I’m a long watcher and from Nashville. Currently we are visiting Rome for the first time but still not missing your videos. Rome is everything I hoped for and such a beautiful city. I’m hoping to visit one of the restaurants we saw in one of your videos. Anyway, I hope you both had a great Thanksgiving.
So obvious how much he loves you Jessie! You are beautiful and Alessio is a gem!
Where I’m from in Canada, we have a large Ukrainian population. We always add Perogis and Cabbage rolls with our meals.
You might not see this message but in Ohio for Thanksgiving, our families traditionally have Turkey, mashed potatoes (although funeral potatoes are popular too), green bean casserole (with cream of mushroom soup as the sauce), turkey or chicken gravy, sweet potato’s (with brown sugar glaze), rolls, deviled eggs, stuffing (with white bread or sourdough, celery and onions mixed in), and there’s always pumpkin pie for dessert with cool whip. Additions sometimes include mac and cheese or other side dishes and other pies. But those are the staples. I’m also curious about pineapple casserole, although a little scared of the idea of pineapple and cheese together lol. Many people up here like cheese on apple pie and I haven’t convinced myself to even try that yet. I’ve been watching your videos on and off for a while now and I’m so happy for you both with the news of having a little boy. My husband and I have been trying for well over 10 years now and haven’t been able to get much help with it. It’s inspiring to see you both go through what you have, still with hope and finally get to see your family grow. Your positive attitude and down to earth personalities (not trying to be fake by any means) is what keeps me watching your videos :) Plus, my husband is half Italian so Italian food has been a bit of a staple in our lives and I went to school to be a chef (although I can’t do that anymore), I enjoy your cooking videos as well :)
So happy to see you eating so well and not getting nauseous ❤❤
I would like your potato and macaroni casserole recipes please. All of it looks good to this Minnesotan ❤
I would like the Mac and cheese recipe too, please.
I have never been happier to see a perfect stranger eating & enjoying their meal. Glad you're feeling better J-Girl! 🤗
stuffing cooks in the bird, dressing is cooked on the side
Awwww, you're starting to show the baby bump. Such a cute couple.
Please give us the recipe for your pineapple & cheese dish that your family loves!
One of my family favorites that is not found on everyone’s Thanksgiving table is mashed turnips. You make them just like mashed potatoes. Turnips have an interesting earthy flavor, but they are so good, IMO.
Yes! Turnips are wonderful ❤
I live right outside of Nashville and can relate to the recipes you do on this channel...I am 60 yrs old and finally started taking shortcuts, young lady you do what is good for you, ☺
Happy thanksgiving! Jessi you look absolutely fabulous. Everything looks delicious. Please share your recipes. In particular for the cornbread stuffing/dressing, the potato casserole and the pineapple casserole. Although, I'm sure most of us would like recipes for everything that you made
You both have much to e thankful for, each other, and the coming son…and your obvious love for each other. I am praying for your health and the baby’s health, and for net year to be the best you have ever had!
Jessi you are positively glowing
It makes my heart so happy to see you both so happy!
I was thinki g about writing my comments to your amazing husband. What a gift. He is so plugged in. I am so happy you found each other.
Then I see all the comments on how youre glowing and I'm thinking I didn't notice that.
So whatever I go back to the video and you've sat down now and your taste testing your own meal. And BAM! YOU ARE GLOWING! Your skin looks so lush and you seem so calm and inside yourself, if that makes sense. I'm so pleased for the two of you and your new baby boy to come. ❤
I am from New England but lived in New Orleans during the early 80’s and it was amazing how different their Thanksgiving dishes were from what we have in NE. Oyster and cornbread stuffing vs our bread one. We have turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole (I make mine with fresh pineapple and a tiny bit of brown sugar), butternut squash, fresh green beans, homemade cranberry sauce and homemade rolls. Most of my recipes are from my mother and grandmother. Even in NE every household has different sides etc. SO very happy for your special Thanksgiving celebration this year….next year you will have a little one sitting at the table with you 😊 forgot to add..I live beside cranberry bogs and you only ever want to buy organic!!!!!!
In MB, Canada here - it's so cool to see what everybody else cooks! We would have turkey with cranberry sauce, ham, stuffing, perogies, meatballs w/ gravy, cabbage rolls and some kind of salad like Caesar, coleslaw, etc.
I love the way you love each other. Thank you.
Raised by Italian Mom…this is what I miss from childhood…..stuff artichokes, stuffed mushroom, pasta first, turkey ,Italian deserts
And sausage in stuffing
So happy to see Jessi eating without any nausea! Your cooking looks delicious Jessi, and Alessio really liked it which is fantastic! Can't wait to see you with your own family traditions once your bambino is born.
Oh I see. A mix of different dishes people make. That's a lot of work. In Canada we roast a big turkey with homemade stuffing inside, giblets and water around it to make homemade gravy. Mashed potatoes,a couple of veges for sides and dinner rolls. Then apple pie and pumpkin pie for dessert. 🦃🍗🍁🇨🇦
Thank you for sharing your Thanksgiving tradition with all of us. All of the food you made looks amazing. Mangia!
My Grandma said that "stuffing is what is cooked in the bird" while "dressing is cooked in a dish".
I'm so proud of you cooking all this and getting the timing done right! That was always my hardest part! Now I'm an experienced cook and a Thanksgiving meal is still hard to pull together on time!👏👏👏So glad you BOTH liked all the food you made!
I would enjoy deviled eggs to eat with these delicious foods you have prepared. All the recipes please.
👍🏻.
Mad respect for the lovely people that risked everything to save lives ❤. God bless them 🙏.
I put a pecan crumble on top of my sweet potato casserole. I don't like the marshmallows.
We scrapped sweet potato casserole, but the must-have is sweet potato pie!
The sweet potato casserole with pecan crumble is my absolute favorite holiday dish. Beats marshmallows by a mile😂
We are starting to see the little baby bump! We love y’all! Happy Holidays!
I need the pineapple casserole recipe!!!!
i love how it's "of the ten" instead of "out of 10". lol.
When I was pregnant suddenly all of the seasonings on my Thanksgiving recipes was WAY off..... so I made huge alterations on everything! The fact that Alessio, who critiques all restaurants loves everything, lets me know the one he loves most of all is his precious Jessi. Happy Thanksgiving y'all! The only one I know who eats pineapple casserole is Josh and Momma and I don't trust their taste buds, so I'd like to see how you make it..... willing to try since Alessio gives it his approval!
I don't think I can eat anything momma makes. It's either cheese or mayo. Some things need it but a lot don't. Of course that's my opinion. 😂
I seen what they had for their Thanksgiving and the only thing I would eat is pizza rolls.😂
@carriespears7523 LOL! That family has some interesting food preferences.... mayo lima beans, WHAT!!!! And the fact they have a "cooking" channel just makes me giggle! Shows you how far television has fallen!
I am chronically ill and have a family of big grown boys to feed during the holidays. I learned over the years how to manage making all the dishes, without wearing yourself out so you can still enjoy, even if you only have one oven.
I prep about 4 days in advance, a little at a time, anything I can prep. Alessio could help you and when your kids grow up they can help, too. I will use the cornbread dressing as an example, since my family eats the same kind. I make a list of one or two small chores that I can do just before or just after dinner on Sunday evening, like chop the onions, celery, and herbs and pop them in a baggie or container for sautéing later. Then on Monday, I might make the cornbread and toast/dry out the sourdough, turning it into bread crumbs to cool and store. Then on Thanksgiving, I will butter the casserole dish, pour in the sautéed veg and the mixed bread crumbs, all that is left is to season, add broth until moist and dot the top with butter before baking. I do ALL my dishes that way. Break them down into easy small steps early on and get help with individual small chores, that create ease on the actual day you are serving them. I even do this with a large turkey!
When my children got older, I would make the meal plan, have them pick out two dishes that they wanted to make and put them on a chore list of when they need to prep ahead (my husband and I also each had two dishes we were responsible for, too), then (especially when they were young, I would oversee and be there to answer questions or help). That took some of the pressure off of me and taught them how to make it. Now, they do it every year, for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Since we only have one oven, I create an itinerary for the day it's to be served. Start with when you want to eat, then work backwards. Then write down everything that you need to cook based upon how long it takes and when you'd like it to be ready. Your oven looks large enough to cook more than one dish at the same time (as long as they cook at the same temperature). You can keep it warm in various ways (tip: if you keep baking trays or pots in the drawer below the oven you can pull those out and use it as a 'warming drawer') while it waits on the other dishes. Cook the dish first that is good at room temperature and the last thing, like rolls that you want hot and fresh at the table. Remember if you have prepped ahead, things like pies shouldn't be baking on Thanksgiving day, nor should you be exerting energy to make sweet ice tea or the cranberry sauce (make it ahead), instead save the oven for things that need to be eaten warm. Thanks to prepping ahead and an itinerary, everything can be served warm all at once and you are less stressed and can enjoy the holiday. Hope that helps.
I want the recipe for pineapple casserole! Please!
Jesse you're absolutely glowing. Next year you'll hsve your son celebrating his 1st Thanksgiving.❤ much love to you both.
Actually, 13:59 what I've always heard, stuffing and dressing are the SAME THING. It's called stuffing when it comes from inside the turkey (very delicious, btw), and dressing when it's cooked outside the turkey in it's own dish.
I’m just so happy that you’re not gagging and you’re enjoying a meal that you prepared for you and your husband happy Thanksgiving and God bless you both. God bless the three of you.
I make a pineapple casserole, but it doesn't have cheese. A ham is not complete without it. It's just bread cubes, sugar, eggs, and pineapple, baked. Killer. Dang...now my mouth is watering thinking about it.
Me too! It's almost a pineapple bread pudding: cubed bread, egg, butter, brown sugar, pineapple, pinch of cinnamon. Have it every Easter with ham! So good!
So happy to see you Loving these dishes!!!!!❤ Thanks for sharing this video with the world 💫
What a lovely and welcoming spread! I used to hate green bean casserole but my husband started using the Campbell's cream of mushroom with roasted garlic can instead of traditional cream of mushroom - omg, you've got to try it! It's amazing!!
Used the garlic cream of mushroom in my Hashbrown Casserole once in a pinch. I cut the garlic powder out after smelling the soup, was a little scared but it was delicious! Now it’s part of the recipe. 🧡
@lacysnakeit's a wonderful addition!
Such a beautiful video. God Bless your family. What a couple in love it's what we all dream of.
Your Mac and cheese looks good.
Pineapple Casserole I will be researching.👍
Your green beans casserole looks like it's missing cream of mushroom soup..lol
Yes, cream of mushroom soup is a must!
@jblovesdisney8966
My sister in law made a casserole using 1 box of Kraft Macaroni & chesse, (made per directions) add 1 small can of white meat chicken, (drained) and add that to the green bean mushroom soup casserole, with Krispy Onion topping.
🤤
One of my family's favorites, served with a tossed salad!
The name we have for it isnt enticing, but everyone knows what's for supper when we say "Chicken Sh!t"
😂😂😂
Happy Thanksgiving! I can appreciate how many hours you spent in the kitchen cooking. It's a lot of work! You did really well under the circumstances. Everything looked delicious! I would love the recipe for your macaroni and cheese. I like the idea of making it with cottage cheese and not having to bake it!
Pineapples and cheese kind of reminds me of Josh and Mama's pineapples mayo and cheese.
My momma is from Louisiana and I was born in Mississippi. We used to eat this all the time. Its my favorite 😍
My husband of 27 years is from Friuli. Seeing Alessio react to thanksgiving dishes brings back some fond memories of our early thanksgivings in America. These days we generally switch things up and have an American Thanksgiving one year and an Italian version the next year….wishing you both all the best. Mandi.
My only question.. where is the gravy???
Was there a turkey or was this before Thanksgiving ? Gravy usually is made from the drippings or the boiled ‘bits’, though it’s easy enough to make with packets or bullion.
Gravy is my favorite part about the thanksgiving meal
@m.theresa1385 honey-baked ham turkey. looked like it was pre-sliced.
Tried something different with our dressing. Found some garlic butter croutons in our pantry, added them in and it made the dressing so much better. Also added diced apples and pecans to the cranberry sauce. Turned out so good, might try to make it into a pie.
Happy Thanksgiving, Jessie and Alessio. With Much Love 🩵
Grazie mille! Happy Thanksgiving! ❤️
@ThePasinisPrego and the blue heart is for baby Pasini
It was a wonderful video. Loved to have had the items you prepared for Thanksgiving. It was one of my favorite videos of you both. Thank you.
No gravy for the dressing and turkey??
gotta make a turkey to have gravy lol
@WillFrom613no you don't... What on earth are you talking about?! 😂
@hakunamatata0177 umm to have actual good gravy you use the juice from the turkey 🫠🤣
@WillFrom613there's sooo many ways to make a decent gravy without turkey drippings, and almost any gravy would be arguably better than eating plain dry turkey with nothing on it. I suppose some people don't like gravy at all, but I'm betting that's a pretty small percentage of people.
Pineapple casserole was a late comer to our table, but of course, I am a lot older than you two. My mother subscribed to Southern Living magazine. Any recipe in that magazine that she thought was interesting would be tried at least once, and that's where she found this one. I was every so thankful when she discovered the sweet potato casserole with the pecan brown sugar topping. It blew the candied yams with marshmallows out of the water. She balked on green bean casserole. She tried it and didn't like it (and we all agreed); regular southern style cooked green beans were the standard. It wasn't really a traditional Southern dish; it was created in the test kitchen of Campbell soups in Camden, NJ. Corn pudding joined the menu after buying a cookbook on a trip to Pennsylvania Dutch country in Pennsylvania, so she wasn't totally opposed to recipes from the north. Whole berry cranberry sauce was also added later. She only knew about the canned jellied variety until I was maybe in high school. Whole cranberries were not something you would normally find in a Southern grocery store in the 60s and early 70s. Homemade rolls were a must, but if she was in a hurry angel biscuits would do. Mashed potatoes, gravy, and dressing rounded it off. The dressing was never made the same way twice. She liked to experiment with it. However, after she got older and didn't have the energy to do all the cooking, she was okay with Stove Top stuffing.
Not regional. It's stuffing in the bird, dressing in the casserole.
It’s dressing and served as a side or in the bird. Southern cooks do not do stuffing
I disagree. It is regional. Im from the Midwest and I never in my life have heard anyone refer to stuffing as dressing, no matter how it was cooked. It's stuffing lol
@nopenope3131 Even the packaged versions call it stuffing :)
Disagree as well, in my experience living many years in both the south and midwest, only southerners refer to it as "dressing"
In Ireland it stuffing, never heard of it referred to as dressing before. But it's delicious no matter what it's called 😋. Never heard of this pineapple dish before I'm intrigued!!
oh my goodness.. Y'alls supportive, great communication .. 👏 is so cute. its when your dreams of marrying your best friend actually hapoens ❤😊
I was going to get mad about the pineapple casserole, then I remembered that I love Hawaiian pizza... pineapple and cheese. It seems maybe Alessio needs to revisit his position on its inclusion as a pizza topping. 🤔
My friend made pineapple dressing for Easter. No cheese, but it was really good!
This was so lovely to watch ❤❤❤ everything looks phenomenal and you two are just stellar. God bless 🎉
When it comes to Thanksgiving I believe we all love the flavors and dishes we grew up on. Nobody makes better turkey, stuffing, candied sweet potatoes or gravy than your mothers.
Nobody. We want to see the sides we grew up on. And it’s very different from family to family and from region to region.
I’ve been invited every year to somebody’s feast. And it’s lovely and edible. The desserts are store purchased and not homemade. Though for some reason nobody serves gravy. In my family, gravy was the star of the show.
I come home and crave my mothers cooking. So I will make myself from scratch a full Thanksgiving dinner with a turkey breast and smaller portions of sides and plenty of gravy. I’ll make just one homemade pie. I can have leftovers and enjoy all the flavors of my childhood!!!
Our family Thanksgiving traditions are a little different. We have chicken and noodles, because my mom never liked turkey...lol. We serve them over mashed potatoes. This year we had roasted green beans with it. (t was just me and my daughter this year, so we went pretty simple.) My financial counselor gives us a pie every year, so we also had that - pecan pie.
Other Thanksgiving traditions in our family if we do ham instead of chicken and noodles includes corn pudding (our receipt does NOT have corn meal in it - it's white corn, eggs, sugar, butter so it's more like a custard consistency...it was my great great grandmother's recipe, and we love it). If I make mac and cheese, I always layer macaroni with various shredded cheeses (sharp cheddar, mozzarella, sometimes swiss or American slices if I have it on hand), salt/pepper each layer, pour milk untilk you can just see it through the macaroni), and top with panko bread crumbs - add more salt/pepper on top. Bake at 350 until the top is brown. We've had the pineapple casserole, and yes it's delicious!! We also sometimes do some kind of mixed salad, either a jello one (favorite is orange jello mixed with vanilla ice cream and carrots and pineapple), or sometimes the one everyone knows with crushed ramen noodles, or sometimes a seven layer/overnight salad.
I don't know if that's a southern Thanksgiving meal, but as a fellow Nashville native I can confirm it is a very authentic Nashville Thanksgiving meal. I haven't lived in Nashville for 30 years but the cornbread dressing and fudge pie dessert really brought back some wonderful memories.
Thank you!
