Thanks for the video. I saw this video and got the courage to buy 16 gb RAM and went on to put it to my new 2020 27' iMac (5k) computer myself. It originally came with a total of 8 gb of RAM, the two 4 gb RAM units were placed in slots B and D. The computer turn very slow after I downloaded my music and photos. After adding the 16 gb of RAM units, the computer is now working great. I found that new 8 gb RAM units should be placed in slots B and D and the 4 gb units should be in the slots A and C. If the 8 gb units are placed in slots A and B and the 4 gb units are placed in slots C and D, the computer shows that it only has 16 bb of RAM, not 24 gb it should show. placed
Shouldn’t affect anything, however make sure to check how fast it is after you turn it on, and mix and match the slots if you have to, since not all layouts will deliver maximum performance
I'm guessing it depends on how different the kits are between the new sticks and the 8GB that were included. Looks like the new kit in the video runs at 2666 MHz but at what CAS Latency? Or does the iMAC strictly requires 2666 MHz running at CL19 only? (Effectively making it not matter with the new kit?)
Because that would mess with the performance. It's preferable to have equal sizes of RAM on your machine, so keep it either two RAMs of 4gb or two RAMs of 8gb...
@@guillettoaparicio13 The Imac came with two RAMs of 4gb each, he bought two more, but of 8gb each, he didn't use the four RAMs together because the performance would suffer a loss, as the RAMs need to operate in synchronicity. Yes, I have the same question? If the 8G’s only comes with the two 4G ram cards but there’s 4 actual slots, can you just add 2 more ram cards in order to increase the 8G’s of ram?
You can, but your RAM will be working at the speed of the lowest one of your RAMs. Like if your attached 2333hzs rams and 2666hz rams, your overall ram speed will probably be at 2333hz.

You should be able to add the memory instead of replacing. At least, that's what I hear all over the place. If you order 32 GB of ram, the total of ram will be 40 GB, is what other videos say. But, I remember one video, that talked about the order. I think the lower (2x 4GB) should be in the lower slots. The higher capacity rams should be in the top. If I remember right, it has something to do with the speed. Just check the "About this Mac" menu, and look for the clockspeed of the memory modules. They should be 2666 Mhz for the 2020 macs. If it is lower, change the order of the ram modules and see if it changes the speed.

Appreciate it I'm not really a apple fan but I've realized the advantages for music creation because simply there are better and cheaper software than on windows so thanks
My experience with Apple repair/genius is they ALWAYS blame non apple RAM for any issues with the computer. My hard drive died on my macbook and the genius blamed the RAM. I always keep factory ram in the even the mac needs service.
Why not just reinstall the cheap ram that the iMac came with before taking it to to get repaired, that way you don't have to worry about them saying that and still get to saved hundreds of dollars?
Yes unfortunately we will have to. Spend the same amount as a new computer just to add RAM. I like Apple, but I don't like them taking away choice. I just bought a new 2020 iMac so I don't need to worry about that for a few years.

The original pair is still in there for a total system RAM of 24GB. I moved them up a slot so that the new RAM gets used instead. I don't even recognise the brand Apple used. It was made in Korea. But Kingston or Crucial should be safe choices.
Ground yourself & eliminate static electricity by touching a metal tap before handling RAM. There also seems to be a bit of confusion how to pair modules to make the most of dual channel speed: www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/223429/How+to+couple+RAM+Modules+in+iMac+27
SAMSUNG worked for me. Made a video about it.
@@gemwebb Yep, I did so too. Installed 2x16 of Samsung RAM and kept original 2x4. Works great.
Is a 10gbps port worth it?
Not to me, you'd have to spend big bucks to upgrade your home or office to make it worth it.
Friends, kindly help me to select ram for new imac, im living in India and we not have same stuff as America.
Here is our indian amazon provids:
Crucial 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 2666 MT/s (PC4-21300) DR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT2K16G4SFD8266
so i plan to get to kits so its will me 16x4=64 Gb.... but what mean this 8 SODIMM?
In advance thanks
I will be doing this soon. I am purchasing either 2 x32 or 2 x 64. Can I leave the RAM that is in the machine (2 x4 MB RAM) to give me either 40 or 72MB?
No all the rams need to be of the same size. You can’t have a 32 in one slot and a 8 in another, or any other sort of combo. Good luck
That's fucking bullshit.
Why would I buy a 128GB kit when 2 64GB kits is $50 cheaper??
537.98 vs 599.99??

Hi ! I can’t find rams at 2666 MHz with PC4-21333 on the OWC website. Since this is what apple recommends I’d like to be sure while buying the rams. What exactly did you buy from OWC ? Thanks a lot !
thanks, fam
can the ram be purchased and ship to Canada
Yup, I just made a video about it for correct ram on amazon.ca ruclips.net/video/EN8AhcSlaNE/видео.html
if I buy 2x 16 in which slot do I install them
Slot 1 and 3, or 2 and 4. Just don't place together like 1 & 2, or 3 & 4. That's my understanding of it.
I bought owc ram. My iMac is now constantly restarting my iMac is useless now.
Soooo, did you put the original ram back in and restart?
Dear Eddie please update your situation.
Thank you so much for the help! I really appreciate it
Fantastic video! Thank you! I thought these new ones they made it so you couldn't replace it yourself. Such great news for pricing out a new imac eventually.
Great vid. Very knowledgeable.
Great video, even from Belgium
Hi I bought one dimm to put in my iMac.
I put this dimm on first slot (top to bottom) and leave the 2 stock dimms
I like the new music and graphics!
I did this and my iMac will not restart. So I went ahead and unplugged the cheaper RAM, replaced the original two RAMs in their original slots, and the computer will still not start.
Hi. Is there any reason you didn't leave the 8gb in and just add to it? I'm in the process of getting a new iMac and realised the price difference so will need to do the same and was planning on leaving 8gb in, then adding 2 x 16gb. Is that possible?
You don't want to add unevently Ram capacity to your computer. It will cause confusion to the board. We do add for example 32gb of ram, you should get 2 Ram of 16gbs.
Dont mix apple ram with any other ram it's on the apple page just add the 2x16 on slot 2 and 4
@@CineFutbolByScarlos What’s the reason for avoiding this?
Thank you!!!
Appreciate it I'm not really a apple fan but I've realized the advantages for music creation because simply there are better and cheaper software than on windows so thanks
THANK YOU.
thanks !!
Excellent video well produced I rarely say that because I’ve been a Creative Director for 40 years.

amazing sir!
Nice & Thanks :)
Good tip andrew
Thanks 👍
🦉 When Apple switches to their own CPUs we'll probably have to buy Apple RAM from now on.
Yes unfortunately we will have to. Spend the same amount as a new computer just to add RAM. I like Apple, but I don't like them taking away choice. I just bought a new 2020 iMac so I don't need to worry about that for a few years.
Nice ☺️
Very good video. But why you speak like you are out of air???
Just to let you know there is a T in Twenty, not twenty
you sound like jimmy from south park
Sounds like Kermit
😭😭So sad. I just got a new 27’’ 64gb iMac. But I’m going to follow your way to update it in the future. Appreciate!
yeah that would be the peasant way.
clicking the button with how much ram you want like a boss is much better.
you should try it
$1200 currently for 64GB of RAM from Apple, and then you get crappy Hynix memory for it too. Don't buy their ripoff.
Will this ram work fine also?
Crucial CT2K16G4S266M 32GB Speicher Kit (16GB x2) (DDR4, 2666 MT/s, PC4-21300, CL19, Dual Rank x8, SODIMM, 260-Polig für Mac) www.amazon.de/dp/B07TKZKPJV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ewKuFbDHH321D
When they release the ARM iMac, it will be completely sealed and glued shut, with just 2 USB-C ports, because it's "brave."
Do you know how you can really save money and double the RAM in your new iMac for only 15 € :
Look for somebody who sells the original 2x 4 GB from his new iMac, buy them and double your RAM for only 15 € / $ from 8 GB to 16 GB. Don't invest more money in only 16 GB.

You talk alot..
Thanks for the content, but next time: talk less. This could have been done in 30 - 60 seconds.
