My dad used to be a SAS Soilder and he went to Afghanistan this was his most loved band so he left me the disk of green day.. i sat in my bedroom everyday listening to it till he came back but then my mum got a phone call saying he might not come back we were all heartbroken then 2 weeks later he walks through the front door

21 guns actually was a sign of peace or coming in peace in the past. A ship had twenty one guns and the ship would fire all twenty one guns in the air to show that the cannons were empty, indicating that they came in peace. History, y’all

You're not alone in your suffering ,Tania. I lost my wife and mother to our two little boys going on 3 years ago. The pain doesn't lessen , we just forget about it for awhile...until we make the mistake of watching a video they loved.
My best memory with this song is that I sung it to my girlfriend at the time while we were in high school. It was an early morning just waiting for the bell to ring and she would be in my arms, sharing the earbuds plugged into my mp3 player. I'm probably not the greatest singer but I can never forget that smile she had that day.
A 21 gun salute is the hardest thing for any family member of a veteran to witness. My grandfather was a Navy SeaBee in the NMCB 5th battalion during Vietnam War, he was among the first on the ground, and helped clear areas/trees, and construct the bases for the rest of the battalions. When they weren't building, they were pushing the enemy back inch by inch. He was injured and sent home for grenade shrapnel in his legs. In his last years, he had cancer 3 times, Bladder cancer that was removed, but came back 6months later, and after painfully losing the ability to walk one night, he went to the ER and found out he had Bone cancer in his pelvis that VA Doctors missed for so long, it was already stage 4 when the ER found it. He lost the ability to walk and was in so much pain he barely spoke or ate. Funerals are a mess of tears to begin with, but the final 21 Gun salute is heart-wrenching. Each set of 7 shots feel like they are entering your soul, and ripping your loved one from you more than you already lost. Shotgun shells and memories are all that are left of the People that sacrificed their Lives, Bodies, and Minds for a war they didn't want in the first place, and were forced to be a part of.
Lost a girl I liked a lot to someone else a month ago. And although things have gotten much better from how I felt in the beginning, the pain still lingers around. This song played just the right notes and lyrics to describe my current mood.
Dude you should just turn up to school with a guitar and an amplifier and just belt it out in the middle of assembly or something (Sorry about that happening btw)
every time i listen to this song, i feel like crying. it's one of the most impactful and powerful songs in the world, and it really has so much emotion and makes you feel so much emotion.. this song is so sad yet beautiful and brings so much inspiration. ill always love this song... and may those who lost the fight rest in peace
Why are so many people saying "i was born in the wrong generation"? WW2, the cold war, the great depression, no internet, punished by teachers in school, super deadly plagues *Good times*
Rockstar2016 God bless the fallen and screw the ones living with disabilities, ptsd and other health issues after coming from war? The fallen don't need anything else but be remembered, the living and fucked up need the most.
It’s 2009 and you log onto Xbox live and play another round of Halo 3 with the boys after getting back home from school. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is coming out on dvd soon and you can’t wait to pick it up at the video store.
This will probably sound really creepy but here goes. When I was in college, I loved messing with GarageBand on my laptop. I wasn't any good and I didn't take it seriously but it was fun. Then one day I asked one of my professors what I might do to improve my hobby a bit, and before I knew it I was taking private lessons with him. I did sevrral years of lessons with this guy and it was the best fun ever because he made realize how much I really loved music and just how good I could be if I pushed myself. He passed away from cancer two years ago and I haven't done much music since then. Last thing he ever told me was "People like you and me, we're immortal. They'll be listening to our music long after they've forgotten who we are."
Uh, Twenty One Pilots, Panic! At The Dsico, Fall Out Boy, AJR, Imagine Dragons, Melanie Martinez, Halsey??? Would've thrown My Chemical Romance in but they broke up.

today (may 21st, 2021) is the 21st day of May, in the 21st week of the 21st year of the 21 century, so today I am blasting this song, 21 Guns by Green Day, off of their album 21st Century Breakdown
Indeed. They reflect the life of those living in boredom, poverty, mental illness and heartache. They criticize the government and it's members. Not to mention that all of their songs are so rhythmic! I have never found a Green Day song I didn't like
when i was younger, me and my dad would go on trips with my brothers and sometimes nephew' i remember listening to this song in the car during those roadtrips and they gave me such good memories. i miss when i was younger when my dad had more free time to hang out with him but i feel like we're far apart now song brings tears to my eyes
i confessed to my crush and i was walking home with him and he hugged me bye and it was the last day of school and he said "i hope i see you in two months" and this song started playing when i got home and i love this song because it will remind me of that moment forever
Interestingly, this song causes me to remember an experience that's practically the exact opposite. I knew a girl who ended up getting inexplicably enraged (as in "she herself doesn't know why"), and utterly refuses to ever talk to me. This song causes me to remember the day she decided to hate me.
I'm surprised so many people have positive memories attached to this song. After all, it's very much about consoling someone whose lost an important person.

And you look for a place to hide? Did someone break your heart inside? You're in ruins One, twenty one guns Lay down your arms Give up the fight One, twenty one guns Throw up your arms into the sky, You and I When you're at the end of the road And you lost all sense of control And your thoughts have taken their toll When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul Your faith walks on broken glass And the hangover doesn't pass Nothing's ever built to last You're in ruins One, twenty one guns Lay down your arms Give up the fight One, twenty one guns Throw up your arms into the sky, You and I Did you try to live on your own When you burned down the house and home? Joseph Eberhardt that’s not really what i meant. When you’re happy you don’t really think about what you’re listening to just the beat, when you’re sad you really hear the lyrics and feel them. Doesn’t really matter the song🤷🏽♀️
To all those younglings out there watching this. America declared independence on 1776 which is 1+7+7+6 or 21 which is how the 21 gun salute came to be.
Nope, that isn't why. Here's an explanation from the US military website. For a little background, the practice of the 21 gun salute goes back to the age of gunpowder and sail. "Land batteries, having a greater supply of gunpowder, were able to fire three guns for every shot fired afloat, hence the salute by shore batteries was 21 guns. The multiple of three probably was chosen because of the mystical significance of the number three in many ancient civilizations. Early gunpowder, composed mainly of sodium nitrate, spoiled easily at sea, but could be kept cooler and drier in land magazines. When potassium nitrate improved the quality of gunpowder, ships at sea adopted the salute of 21 guns."

Shotgun shells and memories are all that are left of the People that sacrificed their Lives, Bodies, and Minds for a war they didn't want in the first place, and were forced to be a part of.

They'll be listening to our music long after they've forgotten who we are."

i confessed to my crush and i was walking home with him and he hugged me bye and it was the last day of school and he said "i hope i see you in two months" and this song started playing when i got home and i love this song because it will remind me of that moment forever
Interestingly, this song causes me to remember an experience that's practically the exact opposite. I knew a girl who ended up getting inexplicably enraged (as in "she herself doesn't know why"), and utterly refuses to ever talk to me. This song causes me to remember the day she decided to hate me.
I hope he was serious. Sorry if comment offends. Just ignore.

Do you know what's worth fighting for
When it's not worth dying for?
Does it take your breath away
And you feel yourself suffocating?
Does the pain weigh out the pride?
And you look for a place to hide?
Did someone break your heart inside?
You're in ruins
One, twenty one guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, twenty one guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I
When you're at the end of the road
And you lost all sense of control
And your thoughts have taken their toll
When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul
Your faith walks on broken glass
And the hangover doesn't pass
Nothing's ever built to last
You're in ruins
One, twenty one guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, twenty one guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I
Did you try to live on your own
When you burned down the house and home?
Did you stand too close to the fire?
Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone
When it's time to live and let die
And you can't get another try
Something inside this heart has died
You're in ruins

So true, especially when you're depressed.

To all those younglings out there watching this. America declared independence on 1776 which is 1+7+7+6 or 21 which is how the 21 gun salute came to be.
I think its 9 + 10 =21
21 Guns Salute = Taps
Nick Mitchell oh always wondered why it was 21! :0
