the iceblock isnt made for nor designed for an ice replacement. Its designed to use in conjunction with ice and makes the ice last significantly longer. Its literally designed to melt faster than ice for that reason. When something melts it requires energy (heat) so the ice pack melting first causes it to suck the heat from the ice/water and the items in the cooler, causing the ice to last longer. It was NEVER designed to use alone.
Pretty sure it is meant to stay frozen longer, and once the ice starts to melt it hits the yeti block and re-freezes. That makes far more sense. But I suppose I have some research to do now! Aye! Science!
You're suppose to use the Yeti ice blocks in conjunction with regular ice. Alone they will just barely keep things refrigerator chilled. Along with that the items placed in the cooler should already be chilled before hand.
Yeti ice isn't made to substitute ice, it boosts the overall efficacy. You may want to redo the test with actual ice added on top for more optimal results
Thank you Hiker J for taking the time to make the video. I have a Roadie24 as well as a soft-side Hopper. I bought the Hopper first and I used my 4lb Yeti Ice in that - works great! With the Roadie, I have found that the 4lb Yeti Ice fits perfectly in the bottom of the cooler but you can not store an upright wine bottle with the 4lb Yeti Ice in the bottom. If you want to cool that bottle of wine, I suggest a 2lb Yeti Ice so you can get the wine bottle height on the other side. Again, thank you for taking he time to record your review. Happy Summer!
Pre-cooling the cooler makes all the difference meaning 24 hours before the the 24 hour test stick a yeti ice in there thus bringing down the temp of the ambient air. Good habit to get into imo. Never to much yeti ice. One in the cooler and one in the freezer at all times.
From my understanding... Yeti Ice isn't intended to be used by itself. The product is designed to help keep actual ice frozen longer. Yeti ice on the bottom... fill up your cooler and top off with actual ice.
I agree with Vanessa, I use a 4lb Yeti Ice at the bottom of my Hopper and then top of with gas station ice, I have found that the Yeti Ice 're-freezes; the regular ice as it melts. So, Yeti Ice 'boosts' the work-rate of regular ice. Also, remember that the more air or open space there is in your cooler, the less effective it is. Seriously, if you can't fill the empty space with ice, use a small towel for example.Or more beers, Just sayin!
Great review. An added note from a current owner: the small handle/ridges on each side of the cooler make carrying it with two hands remarkably easy if you aren't using the strap. Overall it's really well designed.
this is the video of the guy talking about how its heavy and hard to drain the water without a plug? (im right handed) i put my left arm through the strap with the handle resting on my elbow to "lock it" use my left forearm to keep the lid closed and left fingers to crack the lid open slightly. Then usethe "finger slot"with my right hand to rock it up and drain the water. Im no body builder and its pretty easy even with 18 16oz beers and ice and water in it.
Nice review. I'll stick to my RTIC for now. I can't believe JEEP is still going with that makeshift 3rd brake light design after all these years. Gotta be a more streamlined way in putting it in that hardtop with a simple plug when you take it off or something more built in looking in the middle of the tire.
Can you demonstrate the run-thru for the one inch webbing you are going to use to attach it to your Jeep? I’m very interested in this but not totally sure I follow. Even a link to another video or demonstration would be very appreciated
the yeti ice blocks are made to sit on top not the bottom. They are not a stand alone solution either . They are the first line of defense vs heat to keep the Ice from turning to water. As its supposed to sit on top of the ice absorbing the heat instead of the ice. Cold air sinks you want your ice block on top of your food and drinks
Hello fellow Michigander!!! I moved to Wisconsin several years ago from where I grew up in the Detroit area. Turns out it was a good move because I am closer to the UP now :) Thank you for the videos!
I was wondering if you fill it with ice and some of it is melted and it flips upside down in your vehicle will the water seep out or are the new latches strong enough to keep the water in till you can flip the ice chest back up
None of the yetis seal perfectly. This is by design because of suction. I have had this cooler since it came out and with it latched, not much water is going to come out. I have turned it upside down and it was just a few drips.
So the cooler cost $250 and on top that they suggest to use their ice block which is $30 and on top that you gave to buy ice. To me I feel it's over priced.
Still bear proof? Did not see the lock slots. Have many Yetis, including the Roadie 20. I find the ice packs are not that great. Jockeying tractor trailer loads for12 hour shifts, ice packs were done 6 hours in. Now normal ice rocks. Be well, Terry.
Those ice blocks only get down to 28. Most ice from your freezer is around 0. They are made to keep your ice colder for longer. I have had colas to freeze with ice and yeti ice used together.
Do you know anything about ice chests? Dude, ice packs like yeti ic don’t replace ice, the augment it. Take any ice chest on the market, drop a ice pack in the bottom, leave a big pocket of air up top and it won’t last, duh bro...
How does that comment add anything of benefit to this topic? Some people aren’t happy unless they’re complaining about something. Oh, I guess I can have a good day now.

Science 🧪
This nigga a whole nerd. Thank you for your explanation nerd boi.
Yeah I use my yeti ice block to pre chill my yeti’s, then remove when I add ice.
@@outdooroutpost6061 Furthermore, the notch at the bottom is to be used as a grip for hand when draining the cooler. Apparently, he was not aware.

The bottom slot is so you can tip the cooler and drain it.
Bought one on sale today for $60. Free shipping, I couldn’t believe it!!

I wonder if one can stand that wine bottle with the Yeti 4lb thin ice.
Thanks for featuring this in a Wrangler so I know what this would look like inside my Jeep. I just got my first one of Yeti.

You read the users guide like me. Thumbs up for that!

Ya I wanted to see if i could skip ice for a day trip, how the ice block would perform.
I have read this as well ... i guess when the regular ice melts and the water get down to the yeti ice its supposed to refreeze

Great vid love the fast pace speaking and explaining!
Nice review. I’d use an instant read thermometer like for bbqing for future testing.
Aka the “hand slot” at the bottom as yeti explains it for draining and cleaning

Please tell me that you gave the good boy helper one of those!
😁
10 lb ice bag melt the same day down here in Tucson AZ. Disappointed with it. It was only 110 degrees
lol

....cute doggie....he approved of the hot dog temperature!!

Thanks from spain❤
DUDE! Put the probe right down the center lengthwise of the hot dog! Come on man!
That slot on the bottom is to make it easy to DUMP water out of it.
Hello fellow Michigander!!! I moved to Wisconsin several years ago from where I grew up in the Detroit area. Turns out it was a good move because I am closer to the UP now :) Thank you for the videos!
Ya that's funny how so many Wisconsin residents have just as much access to the UP.
I think you're supposed to add ice, not just the ice packs. That way it becomes much colder. I found this out in a different review.
Is it bear rated?
bottom cutout is a handle for tipping it out
I think the gap at the bottom is a grip to dump the water since it has no drain.
Thanks, I have the 20, threw out the metal handle, I dont like to store anything, this strap is much better
perfect for 3 day short trips..
Did the yeti ice come with the cooler?
Thank you for the great review! I was just looking at this in black.
Keep in mind that black will heat up quicker due to sunlight absorption
@@pieperview Very true I would use this at the beach. Thank you !
100% the biggest waste of money on a cooler to date. YETI is like Apple. Just a cool name pumped by millions in marketing.
Excellent review
I love my Grizzly coolers '
An they are Made In USA!"
I like the new handle way better

Cute dog! hope he got a sausage. is he a GSP/mix?
Keep all your freezer blocks at the top
Are you near Oakland county?
best review I've seen on this yeti cooler. thank you!
3:00 Do you know what the cap on the back of the lid does? The cap on my cooler is about to come off. What should I do?
It is the hills they used to inject the foam into the cooler walls
What are the outside dimensions of the box?
Pointless test of course your sausages aren't going to stay cold when there's lots of space (warmer air) in there.
Your hand is warming the hot dogs. Should have tested them without holding it.
😂😂😂😂
What size is that ice pack?
Great content! Thanks !
They should build an icepack that fit on the edges of the upsection.
So the cooler cost $250 and on top that they suggest to use their ice block which is $30 and on top that you gave to buy ice. To me I feel it's over priced.
70 degrees sounds so nice!!
You do realise you gotta compact it all with ice right?
Ya I wanted to see if I could skip ice for just a day trip as this cooler is intended. But ya ice is needed.
Anyone else wondering if they’ll soon release the bigger coolers with these new latches?
I would love that
no ice at all?
It’s a shame no tie down slots or a lock holes it’s a expensive small cooler I would want mine secured to the car or campsite to prevent theft
Side security slots suck, anyone can pry-off and steal your Yeti, liked the old style for security.
i don't like how there is no way to lock the cooler...
So Yeti basically copied the pelican 20qt? 😂
Also… you didn’t add actual ice
Dog: cooler faylz wizz-out my tazzt tezzt of hots dogzz.
Nice review but give your buddy one them hot dogs
Not cold enough in this new tote cooler! I'm disappointed and won't buy one! Thanks

Ya no lock spot. Kind of strange.
No need for locks on this one. Also it is not bear proof certified.
Those ice blocks only get down to 28. Most ice from your freezer is around 0. They are made to keep your ice colder for longer. I have had colas to freeze with ice and yeti ice used together.
10% lighter compared to what? 🤪
On sale right now for 50
Yeti should only use them latches just saying
Do you know anything about ice chests? Dude, ice packs like yeti ic don’t replace ice, the augment it. Take any ice chest on the market, drop a ice pack in the bottom, leave a big pocket of air up top and it won’t last, duh bro...
So not bear proof? No thanks
Does it leak? My 20 leaks everywhere
No they got rid of the plug on the bottom.
you probably need a new gasket for your plug
Yetis are no good I buy one last month and the ice melt the same is a Coleman old cooler just the name $300 is not worth it
My 10 year old $18 Igloo works way better than the Yeti 20 Roadie I just got rid of.
There's no drain. Downfall.
If you can’t pick up that cooler and drain yourself then you better reevaluate your life.
@@29Suckit from the sound of it you trash just like yeti.
@@29Suckit 😂😆
ice packs are gimmicky. if you don't have ice how can you comb your head over with a handful of ice cubes when its hot as hell outside.
Thumbs down for having the stupid dog on the video.
