As a monarchist, I think the Royal family need to be careful not to engage to much in heated debate, especially around Breixit. Any tinkering with the monarchy might spell the end and force the UK into a republic.

When one of the greatest democratic nations turn their backs on democracy and one of its elite s such has the P of Wales wades in about some special connection with Germany, who are the architects of the EU, then it spells disaster. Yes, there are also some - minor - Celtic and North Germanic roots (as have the Germans themselves, by the way), but that does not change that big fact. It was a tragedy that war destroyed the old, strong ties between Germany and England, because if they had joined forces, there could have potentially evolved something like the United Germanic States, including also Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Benelux, Switzerland and Austria: an unbelievably advanced superpower. Prince Charles carries out the Monarchy's role well. The UK's Government is currently unstable and unable to implement any policies (until the Prime Minister changes and a new one rebuilds a working Cabinet); but the continuity of the state is maintained by the Queen and the Prince. Prussian/German nationalism survived in Royal circles all the way until Philip and Elizabeth, so culturally the British Royal family has been quite German until very recently. He's not speaking German because his ancestry is German (amongst many other nationalities,, btw). He's speaking German for the same reason he speaks French - he's well-educated. Incidentally, the Hanovers assumed the British throne because of THEIR British ancestry.
George 1 was invited by the British parliament to take the throne after the last Stuart monarch, Queen Anne died without issue. George was her closest relative who was not catholic. The poor man was already middle-aged, had lived in Hanover all his life and did not speak English. Shortly after his coronation he put Robert Walpole, who is considered to be the first Prime Minister, in charge and went back home to Hanover where he was eventually buried
He speaks French because for centuries French was the official court language of Britain and because it was for all of Europe the language of diplomacy. He speaks German because the entire house of Windsor are expected to learn it due to their German heritage. Though more of them speak French and speak it better than they speak German. As a monarchist, I think the Royal family need to be careful not to engage to much in heated debate, especially around Breixit. What will be done is the UK will leave the EU, we don't necessarily need to negotiate freedom brought about by a democratic referendum. Any tinkering with the monarchy might spell the end and force the UK into a republic.
@Kandy Kandy 'STOP TALKING KNOW NOTHING CRAP' what sort of English is that Sir? Actually, the Prince of Wales has in the past been very vocal on certain issues, especially about conservation and planning law for one example. I agree that the Royal family are not allowed to get mixed up in politics, but we're not in normal times. The majority of Mps who are supposed to represent us have turned on the electorate in not delivering our departure from the EU. We are essentially at present in a dictatorship. When one of the greatest democratic nations turn their backs on democracy and one of its elite s such has the P of Wales wades in about some special connection with Germany, who are the architects of the EU, then it spells disaster. I think it would be wise for Charles to keep out of things at present.
@Kandy Kandy As I mentioned before, this country is not in normal times. This country is in a period of instability and any words, or as in this case, actions, that reinforce a relationship with any country, that has been instrumental in trying to keep us in a EU super-state, must be treated with great care. He would serve the country better really, by trying to connect the nation with democratic values. We know the German state is instrumental in trying to keep the country in the EU against its democratic will.

Even "Mountbatten" was an artificial translation of the German "Battenberg". When that became too well-known, the label "Windsor" was - again artificially - created. The English (= Anglo-Saxon = Angel-Sachsen) nation and their Royal family may like it or not - they are so German as one can possibly be. That would have been far better than seeing nowadays all of these originally Germanic little nations degenerating into dumb and dull rainbow areas which lose their culture to foreign invaders.

OK - you don't care for or respect the Royal Family but throwing insults doesn't change the fact: The Royal Family is British.
ps: Parasites? You can post that comment confident that you'll not be hauled out of your bed at half-past-three tomorrow morning by representatives of 'the law.'

I love to hear German spoken. Such a beautiful language. I wish I knew how to speak the language. I have German ancestry on both sides of my family. Fortner and Foltz.

according to my calculations, prince charles is actually ethnichally more german than british at 57%
how many generations did you involve and how much percentage of byzantine genes did you discover? His british ancestors date back to Aethelred in the 9. century. Did you trace all other blood lines so far back, too? Just asking....And just out of curiosity: How many generations of the french House of Guise did you find and how many percentage of his genetic code is french? Don't forget the danish, as they have the oldest known ancestry in Europe. Did you really trace his ancestry back until Gorm the Old? How much percentage of Dane is in Prince Charles, please?
He speaks German and French fluently and also a bit of Welsh as did his mother.
Imagine, the ex prince of Wales speaks foreign languages better than Welsh! Are you sure, Britain, that this makes sense? Seems rather colonial to me.
