Oh look, the new Xduoo 2 in 1 tube amp and camping stove!
My TA-20 has just been plugged in and I am immediately impressed with the sound and build. Has good detail, kick and separation. More engaging than my SMSL THX and almost as good as full on valve Tor Roger. The key benefit is that it allows me get tubey with planar magnetics (Ether CX, Quad Era-1). I have PSVane tubes in my preamp and phono stage and absolutely love them. There are a pair of the new PSVane 12AU7-S (S Series) heading towards me. They are supposed to be even better than the mark II. They will make this really sing. Thanks for the recommendation Zeos.

@@learntotie8972 Yeah man. Great tubes. I also have some RCA 1956 and some new issue Mullards coming but I can strongly recommend the PSVane 12AU7-S tubes. Sweet, full, clean and above all really musical. This is a very good amp combined with Ether C cans.
Update - tried PSVane S series, Mullard Russian reissue and Genalex Gold Lion Russian reissue and the Genalex are the clear winners. Mullards are best value as they are about 1/3 the cost and almost as good as the others. When you keep having to take your headphones off to be certain you are just hearing headphones you have made the correct choice.
@@bongofury3176 gold lions are my current favourite. My TA20 was second hand and came with tung sol tubes, so I can't compare to stock. The tung sols are very detailed, the gold lions seem to provide greater sound stage and slightly more bass without sacrificing top end detail. I got some brimar 6067 tunes recently, they're smooth and warm, not sure if they have more bass than the gold lions but it definitely doesn't feel as tight. Top end is lacking too, I really found myself missing that sparkle from the gold lions.
Hi Z and thanks for the review. I currently own HD 800s and a Chord Mojo and am considering getting a tube hybrid amp. I'm thinking between the TA-20 and the Schiit Lyr 3. I mostly listen to classical and jazz. From your auditions, which would you think is better?
P.S. I'd consider getting the Schiit Bifrost 2 if I got the Lyr 3 and a Denafrips Ares II if I got the TA-20. Any advice would be appreciated.

Z. Did you check it with other DACs? Could it be that it sounds better than the TA-10 because of the Schiit Gungnir feeding it (which BTW you didn't include a link to)?
Totally off topic but I need to choose headphones ASAP. I'm looking for some new headphones (coming from Philips 9500) for gaming and listening to classical and pop music. I was deciding between the Sennheiser Hd58x and the Fidelio X2HR. Which one would you choose or is there a better choice in the price range. Thanks Z!

My P1s arrived today. Initial impressions are positive, however I'm confused about fitting tips. On the stalk there is a little lip. Is the idea to push the tips up to that lip or is the lip designed to hold the tip on? If I push it up to the lip, the tip often slips off and is left in my ear when I take the IEMs out. If I push it past the lip, there's no indication of where to stop. If you push the tip up to the body, the nozzle protrudes.
Edit: I just noticed there's a little ridge on the inside of the tip's tube. I think the idea is to push the tip on past the lip and then pull it back (towards the direction of pulling the tip off) and the ridge secures the tip in place against the lip. It's certainly the most comfortable fit I've had with them yet.
At this point, with all the hype and waiting, I sure hope the P1s aren't anti-climatic. I'm told mine have shipped but the tracking is useless

Apparently, the Loxjie P20 with upgraded tubes and a more-powerful power supply offers a substantial improvement. I'd be curious to see if it could then complete with the Xduoo TA-20... for a third of the price.

Disappointed that the aux out is not "tubified" would have loved for it to do dual duty on headphones and speakers. That said xDuoo is kickin' some ass lately!

In my Mad Science Hour rolled in Tung-Sol (matched pair 12AU7), outputted to 789 single ended, and magic happened. Aryas on tubes another creature. Spent 1 hour listening (for pleasure) to this set-up.

I have a Teac UD-501 and HD660s and the LCD2 C and now the TA-20. The TA20 sounds better than the teac. Mine had no sticker.
Can you hear a difference between the left and right channel? I'm wondering if I should go for the 20 or the 10. I'm tilting more towards the 20 because of balanced.

Hah! That story about rather being a happy reviewer, than a good reviewer not wanting to know what tubes do to your sounds *resonates* with my HD800S with tube amp.
I just bought the TA-20. Using unbalanced DAC; Fostex HPA4-BL. Using a pair of HD 650. Listening to it for one day only... Oh my god. It sounds sooooo good. So smooth.
Sounds this good with unbalanced DAC and without tube rolling... this is end game stuff.
I swear 5 years ago you would have spent many thousands $$$ for this. This is a golden age of cheap audio.

Hello Guys. Bought it as a tube preamp...Big mistake the preout are not but are indeed line out passthrought so i don t know if i can connect the headphone out straight to my power amp? Thank you in advance for your answers...

Definitely. Use the XLRs.
XDuoo is the bees knees. I used a XD-05 for a while, and that little bastard would drive MK3s. If the line out was a pre-out (powered monitors), I’d prob use it everyday. Btw, manufacturers, would u PLEASE indicate whether your shit is line or preout? Please. Some just say rca out, like it dosent matter. Dicks
I don't know man. I am now considering the Cayin HA-1A again...a full tube amp.
I could go a different hybrid way and buy the Itube2 and pair it with any headphone amp or speaker amp. For more tube sound I could buy a second Itube2 and link them.

How does the HD800S sound with this Xduoo TA-20? Is it better than Xduoo MT-604?
all headphones sound great on this amp regardless of impedance etc. I also have MT604 with vintage Voshkod rocket factory tubes and the TA-20 is much better than the MT604. It does of course cost about 3x as much. Genalex Gold Lion reissues are my preferred new tubes. RCA/Philips for vintage 12AU7 tubes. Enjoy

@@XDR2201Hope I'm not to late but I also have the MT-604 and a friend bought the TA-20 and I noticed a big difference in sound. The TA-20 makes the 604 sound like a solid state. If you want more tube sound get the TA-20.

Can you get these guys to send you the Xduoo TA03S....they talk up the DAC in it and it has more tubes....does more tube make more better?
That is cool if it sounds good. It's a full tube amplifier to instead of a hybrid like these two, nothing wrong with that I love both. The only thing I would be curious/worried about is the dac, I know it has little to do with the sound but you see that chip being used in older budget dacs and in other things that happen to include a dac. Like my Marantz CD player, it uses a single cs4398 and it does sound really good doing CD rate music but even that can still be improved with a really good dac, minimally but still can be improved.
The entire Geshelli Labs shop has been out of stock for a while. Getting balanced dacs from them hasn’t been an option..
Edit: I looked on the Geshelli website and the Enogs are in stock so I bought one and will probably use it with this

guys I need some help I'm just getting into headphones, use for music games movies. right now I have a scarlet 2i4 running my monitors. I just bought the rupert neve headphone amp and a pair of sennheiser hd650. can't get the amp to even work through scarlett so had to connect headphone amp to PC onboard dac. problem is they don't seem very loud to me deffenatley sounds good just not alot of power. question is should I sell scarlett send neve amp back and buy schiit Jotunheim with multibit dac. or just buy a regular dac say schiit one and see if rupert neve amp gets louder. any help be great thanks a bunch.

Ok, so it did not open up anything for me. Sounded no different than the TA-01.
Are you running it off of a balanced DAC? Because just switching from RCA to XLR input made a substantial difference for me.
@@LyK0sa I have used it with both and do not notice any difference. I started using it with the balanced output from the Fiio Q1 Mark II, then I switched to my SMSL SU-8 and nothing. Tried it with several headphones.

The only things that are in the same vein as the darkvoice but better are probably all much more expensive, if I was going that way I'd probably go with a Dennis had amplifier.
Have you considered the tor roger? It's one of the best stock tube amps you can get. Dont know if he's currently manufacturing them though.

If I was to go with anything else I would go straight to a Dennis had amplifier and it would also be one of the ones that also has speaker output to. I'm not really into headphones anymore though, I sold almost all of my headphone gear and only listen to speakers now except once in a while when I want something for on the go.

when you play though a tube do you lose the detail .
That is the purpose of a tube amp. As Zeos says, "it f*cks up the sound, but in a pleasant way." The distortions that the tubes do somehow render the music more palatable. But if it's sound accuracy you're looking for, Solid State is a better alternative. Or better, if you want both tube and SS, go for a tube pre amp and connect it via a SS amp to match your preferences.

If you enjoy those you should try Bugle Boys. They are a fantastic upgrade to my ears. Less bright, more refined low-end, vocals sound better also
