Also to talk about the lyrics quickly: Self-Ish is an album all about the death of the self, how we’re perceived, memory, and a whole lot more.
Cotard in specific is based off a medical condition of the same name, Cotard’s Syndrome, where a person believes they have died and are undead walking the earth. The song details the narrators struggle with suicidal ideation and their descent into depression which eventually leads to them taking their own life. The specific line you were hearing, “I wanna make my murder look like a suicide” is likely referencing Cotard’s Syndrome, their “murdered (undead)” body then being killed again through taking their own life. It’s a very morbid song, but most of the tracks on this album are.

    • @Kremuwkarz
      @Kremuwkarz 8 месяцев назад +5

And the condition is based on a character in a book by Edward Camus. It has his name. The character was a conman that went crazy and started murdering people during the resurgence of the black death in france. He got surrounded by the police and tried to kill himself if I remember correctly...

This was a great reaction video!! I’m a big Will Wood/Will Wood and the Tapeworms fan so this was really cool to see! So, here are some things you might wanna know:
    - Will Wood started off using the name Will Wood and the Tapeworms when putting out music
    - During this time using this name, Will Wood had a very chaotic stage persona who wore a lot of eccentric outfits and acted about as strange as his music
    - Later on, I think in around 2019-2020 (I suck at remembering dates) he dropped “The Tapeworms” from his name and started going by just “Will Wood” when putting out music, he still worked with a full band but I think he changed the name because over time his style had changed A LOT, and he wanted to kind of separate his past works from his new ones, which were less chaotic and had a different style
    - I’m also pretty sure that his old persona had a negative impact on his mental health and he needed to separate himself from that too
    - And he seems to be doing a lot better now! (Also, Will Wood and the Tapeworms & Will Wood have seperate accounts on Spotify, not sure about RUclips though because I don’t listen there often)
    - His 2020 album, The Normal Album, was the first album he released after he dropped The Tapeworms from his name. It was still pretty chaotic but not as much as the albums from before, and had more of a different theme musically and lyrically (a lot of the songs sounded inspired by music from different decades, for example a couple of the songs on that album were influenced by 50’s doo-wop music, and lyrically most of the songs are related in some way to mental health or the dysfunctionality of society)
    - Will Wood’s latest album so far, “In case I make it,” (2022) is his most emotional and personal album to date, as many if not all of the songs are inspired by or document his personal experiences and struggles through his personal life, whether that be addiction, mental health, social media attention, and death, among others. It’s also very mellow and un-chaotic, as most of the songs use mainly baritone ukulele, sometimes piano, orchestral elements, and not much else. Despite this, this album is just as enjoyable as the previous ones in my opinion, and the songs hit really hard emotionally
    - At the beginning of 2023 (I think), Will Wood announced that he would be going on an indefinite hiatus to take a break from making music, but he still helps his friends with their projects and runs a podcast with his friend Chris, called “Life In The World to Come”! I haven’t listened to much of the podcast, but from what I’ve heard of it, it’s really funny and it’s about the apocalypse.
    - He also recently hosted 2 screenings in different places for his concert film, “The Real Will Wood”, which I haven’t watched yet but it looks cool! So yeah, he still does some stuff, but he’s taking an indefinite break from making music
And that’s pretty much all I have to say, hopefully this gives you some context!! If you want, I could recommend some Will Wood songs I think you’d like!!
    (edit: spelling 😔)

Hell yeah man! Truly, the one thing I can confidently say about Will & the band is that they are completely unforgettable. You mentioned you wanted a song that has a little bit more development, and if so then Hand Me My Shovel I’m Going In!, Dr. Sunshine Is Dead or Suburbia Overture might scratch that itch.
Suburbia Overture in specific incorporates elements from Doo-Wop, Alt Rock, Screamo, Piano Ballad, all wrapped up into a 3 part suite. It’s awesome.
If you wanna check out a song that might make you appreciate his vocal style more, Cicada Days would be great. It has that softer singing you wanted alongside the more insane stuff.

you should listen to more will wood, he has less chaotic songs, all the songs from his albums "the normal album" and "in case I make it" are less chaotic as well as the first step is good, and Your body, my temple is my favorite, cover this song is also good, skeleton appreciation day is also very good. From your feedback I think those are some songs you would like. Also based on your feedback, his album "Self-ish" (which cotard's solution is apart of) is maybe less your style.

I have a lot of feelings about this song, and this album and will woods music in general, but as someone who used to be a huge fan, it’s not really the best music around. Will’s music is really easy to, like, fall down a rabbit hole of? If you’re comparing each song to each other song a clear progression comes out, and a lot of people mistake songs later in that progression as better songs, when really it’s more that they’re songs that are complemented by listening to the other songs. For me, the very start of that progression would probably be suburbia, or marsha thankk you for the dialectics, because they’re some of the more digestible songs in the normal album, and then if you want you can get your shovel and dig through earlier albums, but keep in mind there is other music, and that progression does not map to quality directly
