If you want to know more about 32 Bit Float and why its important. Check out Tom's video on it here ruclips.net/video/VxZCdoEf_O0/видео.html
The 32 Bit float property is quite uninformative. What really matters is the output voltage of your mikes, and at which bit range their output lands. With an F3, for example my selfmade AOM5024 microphones sit very high up around 0dB or even above. It is nice to be able to bring them down into the range. However, it is scary to have such a high levels knocking at the preamp. Same is true for mices like the Shure SM7B being low. The question is how many "bits" the voltage output actually populates (10 ? 14 ?)
It would be cool to hear how it actually sounds. The specs on it look awesome!
Matt Johnson did a review and used it to record his sound if you’re interested to hear.
I just received mine. Just a heads up for fellow field recorders (I am a concert archivist): The bluetooth range is extremely poor compared to competitors. If range is a concern, this is not an upgrade. My PCM A10 gets 2x range for half the price (60 ft vs 30 ft). This is unacceptable given bluetooth 5 and the $50 extra dedicated dongle.
You cannot turn off screen while you record w/ phantom power. I record in dark rooms, elimination of light source is very helpful. Can monitor on the app anyway.
Worst of all, there is an audible click in the left channel if recording with high gain from the AV2. You can set the gain to +60 and set the INPUT to EXT to see it clear as day in the level monitor - you will see a steady-as-a-metronome click in one channel, constantly, no matter what. This will not be a concern for most, unless you are recording with low sensitivity mics in a quiet environment.
Very unfortunate for my applications. Though 32 bit float is extremely nice. I will continue testing to see if I ultimately enjoy it.
A click ? - this is weird !
Could you share some of your sound test in soundcloud? It wold be great to hear what you say about that "clicks", and some preamps test aswell. Best wishes!!!!!
@@Kloketenproducciones I posted details on the Taperssection discussion. Basically, it should not be an issue in the vast majority of realistic applications.
That sounds like a defective model. If it isn’t the Zoom F3 would still be the default for me.
@@birbs4life174 what aspect?
They fixed the clicking (which wasn't actually a real issue in most use cases) in a firmware update.
I'm hoping that they push another firmware fix for turning the screen off.
The Bluetooth range is the only poor aspect, now.
How does it compare to the Zoom F3? I bought that a few years ago but I don't use it much
I'd recommend watching Curtis Judd's video on it. Pretty much runs most of the tests I think you'd be interested in 👍.
Big take: 32 bit, Larger color screen, low self noise, 3 AA batteries, 2 combo Jack, plastic mostly but good, TIMECODE!, monitoring options, needs new ver. BT dongle.
Hope this helps!
I want to see that on a Camera Rig.
Is the TC in and TC out pass-through, so that one timecode generator would be enough?
Terima kasih 🎉
Firmware update for X8 for BlueTooth audio monitoring?
My Tascam DR100 mkII could use some help. Would be the right companion for my audio kit? Cheers
The Bass thumping in the background audio is very distracting
Thanks for the video! Your audio is very quiet though, might want to look into that.
This unit will not start recording by it self due to timecode feature man...
So this is a 400$ unit
And you have to buy an external Bluetooth dongle which is stupid,
my breakfast sandwich comes with a built in Bluetooth nowadays.
Plus tax, you will end up paying almost 500$ for a product that should not be more that 275$
I know something about electronics,
a Bluetooth ship is 1$
It will literally cost them 1$ to put Bluetooth in the device
And a ship/crystal for the time code thing cost them 2$
And None of the 3.5mm inputs are locking inputs
500$ for this ?!!!!
No thanks
I agree that BT should be included at that price, however it might be the dongle due to cost/complexity of regulatory certification.
