Grew up near Fassifern the sound of the steam engines were apart of my childhood and l loved it great to see some footage of the Garrets at Fassifern many memories.👁👀
How is tandem double heading coordinated so each locos tensile pull is the same at the 1st wagon coupling ? always puzzled me -Did wagon train horses have a leader ? Plane engines dont pull in tandem.
Working as the Driver the 2nd engine of a double headed train. You are driving by feel, as well as watching the exhaust on the lead engine to know when to Open the regulator or shut off. Whistle codes from the lead engine were used to signal the crew of the second what was needed. Hope that helps answer your question. Cheers Adrian.
Fassifern railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the City of Lake Macquarie suburb of Fassifern, opening in 1888.The station has three platforms, although only two are in use, the third being the former branch line platform for the Toronto railway line that closed in 1990. North of the line is a balloon loop for the Newstan Colliery that is served by Southern Shorthaul Railroad hauled trains.
I am 63, the memory of these double Garrets traveling through Woy Woy are one of my favourite childhood memories, I grew up not far from Mortdale station, I never got bored with the sight, sound & smell of these steam powered works of man made art....

Even with leaking steam cocks these locomotives could still move mountains. 1200 tons plus on the Fass bank. Great clip
Love Garretts...thanks to Canberra we still have one on the rails.
6039 that appeared in this video is rusting away at Dorrigo.
@@tomnewham1269Saw it over a fence as a kid about 30 years ago and it was rusting away then. Such a waste.
