In that same season, every team in the western conference that made the playoffs at the conclusion of the regular season had no fewer than 44 wins. Prime Kobe was playing in a tougher conference. Not to mention, the only 54+ win team in the east that year was the Pistons (64-18) and the west had 3 54+ win teams (Mavs, Spurs, and Suns).
