    Thank you, so much! These chapters are more timely than ever before! It’s just amazing to me how powerful the messages in the Book of Mormon are .....we see these same things happening in our lives right now! I must admit, I never really understood why all the War Chapters were included, thinking they were repetitive and bloody, but now I see!

    Thank you Dynamic Duo for an engaging Podcast on Helaman 7-12. I was wondering if I'm the only one getting more and more dizzy take numerous spins around the Pride Cycle !! Yes, 3x in 13 years will do that to you but sadly the Nephite Nation couldn't find their way out of the Cycle. There are many GREAT lessons for us today with our Societal Issues unable to discern between Wants vs. Needs. The Vain things of the world are so TRANSITORY, here today and gone tomorrow. However, Nephi made an attempt causing a Famine, "A hungry stomach has a way of Loosening up a Stiff Neck" Unfortunately, the Nephites "went their own way" (Hel 10:1) even AFTER such great signs. Question, are we today going our own way divided and contentious as we approach Nov 3rd. If you are not ONE you are not mine !! Finally, what side of the Pride Cycle are we on as a Nation and as Individuals? WILL we learn from history or be doomed to repeat it as the Nephites or old? Shall we not move forward and follow Nephi in his Unweariness (Helaman 10) and remember D&C 64:33 !!

    Thank you. Great insights. The Book of Mormon was meant for our day. We are seeing this pride cycle and corruption play out even now in our culture. We must be very careful and prayerful if we are to survive spiritually. Our government is struggling with these same kind of Gadianton robbers. I know that the Lord will guide us who to support in this coming election and align with if we ask him. The Lord is greatly concerned about this nation too.

    I love the works of art you feature during your discussions. I am a professional artist and appreciate so much that you show work that is different than the usual photo realism “church art”. It’s amazing how many you find that I have never seen before. Thank you for putting the time to represent these amazing and inspiring works of art. Oh and... I love your content too. Taylor, my husband and I went to Israel with you 100 years ago and love watching you and hearing your thoughts. Thank you both for your generosity of time and knowledge.

    I really appreciate how you diagrammed the pride cycle. Placing it in a circle shows us the opposite conditions: prosperity and sorrow, pride and humility and so forth. I love all of your presentations and they greatly add to my studying and prepare me for the Sabbath day. Thank you so much for putting in so much time, effort and Spirit for strangers simply out of love for the Lord.

    Money, the internet, etc. are neutral. However, how we utilize these tools and the way we align ourselves with these tools is key. If they become our God (s), and we lust after money for the purpose of bringing power or status, then surely it can be a catalyst in keeping us further from Deity. Yet, the ROOT within our inner landscape is not having an eye single to the glory of God-essentially, misalignment in our spiritual focus-NOT the money itself (or neutral tools).

    Thank you very much. There is much corruption nowadays and sometimes it is so well disguised that one can easily be caught without even knowing and being willing to be corrupted, but nevertheless falls into the trap(s). For instance, in at work. When a company receives gifts from other companies. It is often to thank the client, but it is also most of the time to encourage the continuation of their contract or prioritize them. By accepting, one can be considered as corrupted, even if the receiver does not have the idea of being so. The world does not think nor acts as our friends or families do. Most of the time, it looks for its own interest. Thank you for your insight regarding repentance. We all make mistake, but if we repent we can because of Jesus-Christ.

    Hi T&T
    Love your teachings. I have a question regarding the Abrahamic Covenant and prosperity meaning to have God's presence with you always. I loved this because it explained why we have poor righteous members /Saints. However why do the prophets like King Benjamin and other prophets add "....and you will prosper in the land" Mos 2:22 and "...both temporal and spiritual" Mos 2:41. Then the pride cycle keeps occurring in the BOM in which it seems to negate the prosperity is about having the Lord with you always putting the emphasis back to temporal and monetary blessings instead. I appreciate your help to clarify this for me.

    • @taylorhalverson3052
      @taylorhalverson3052 4 года назад +5

      Great question, Maria. No doubt that God wants us to "prosper" temporally. There are many blessings that God wants us to have that are of a temporal nature. Only having God's spirit with you is not enough to sustain you if you have no food or water. The reason for the emphasis on the spiritual side of prospering is because too many preachers in our day have focused first, foremost and only on temporal blessings making the false equation that the size of your "net worth" = the size of your "spiritual worth." So in our emphasis on the spiritual power of prosperity, of having God's presence with us, we are not trying to exclude temporal prosperity. Hope that helps!
      Oh, and one more thing, the pride cycle. The scriptures demonstrate that those who lose the presence of God eventually lose their temporal blessings. When the Lord is not with you, you do not see an increase in temporal blessings.

    Boy, can we see today's atmosphere in these situations in the Book of Mormon! It is really hard to know what is true and what is not in our cultural and political situations today. You hear so many sides of an issue and try to figure out what is true and what is not. In the final analysis, I don't think we CAN know the truth of a lot of what is going on in our country and the world today.

      The gospel gives us a great anchor. When we focus on the truths of the gospel, love, kindness, hope, repentance, faith we'll be in good stead. :)

    • @wejysld

      Yes it does, so I am at peace within myself about our country's divisiveness but I do think that for the most part we haven't a clue about what is really going on, just like the people of Book of Mormon times.

    I was wondering why Nephi was praying where he could be seen from people passing by. Was it the custom in those days to pray on high towers? I thought we were instructed to pray in private and not seen by others. Thanks for the great lessons that you both teach us.

    I have a question. I have noticed that the book of Helaman is mainly about his son Nephi not Helaman. Do you know why it is therefore called the Book of Helaman? Thanks for all of your information. I have learned so much.

    • @taylorhalverson3052
      @taylorhalverson3052 4 года назад +2

      Ray, this is a GREAT question. I don't know the answer. So I asked my colleague, the esteemed Book of Mormon scholar Jack Welch (John W. Welch) and here is what he sent me via email and encouraged me to share with you.
      **********
      No idea, really. But it is a good question that comes up.

      But maybe Nephi, the son of Helaman, was such a humble and powerful leader, he wanted to pay tribute to his father by instructing his recordkeepers to extend the memory of his father Helaman.

      Maybe there was a thought that you couldn't close a book in the name of someone who hadn't died. The book of Alma (the Younger) ends with the death of Helaman, the son of Alma, but we don't know what happened to Alma when he departed in Alma 45. Similarly we don't know what happened to Nephi, the son of Helaman, when he departed in 3 Nephi 1:2.

      Maybe there was a pattern that "books" should be multigenerational. The book of Mosiah is really the book of Benjamin and Mosiah. The book of Alma is really the book of Alma the Younger and his son Helaman. The book of Helaman is really the book of Helaman and his son Nephi and his star convert Samuel. And the book of 3 Nephi is really the book of Nephi, the son of Nephi, and Jesus, the son of God.

      Maybe all of this was to signal that in the mouth of two or three interconnected witnesses shall all things be established.

      4 Nephi is, moreover, the ultimate multigenerational book.
