Evolution of Shiva summoning from FFVIII to FFVII: Remake (1999-2020)

Compilation of Shiva summoning animation from Final Fantasy VIII until Final Fantasy VII: Remake (1999-2020) from the single-player main series. There isn't any Shiva in Final Fantasy XII's but similar summoning is called as Mateus.

Cool vid but just wanted to mention Mateus is from a different Pantheon. Also the lady you see on Mateus is a Goddess bound to Mateus. Mateus is the dude behind the woman's torso.

Yep! It gets a little bit confusing with with the actual form it takes as Mateus along with Exodus, Chaos, Zeromus, etc. as Espers are references to final bosses from the very early installments in the main series (in this case The Emperor of Palamecia from Final Fantasy II with his first name Mateus only revealed in the official novelization I believe). Some of them, however, made their debut as summonable creatures in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance as Totema. The confusing part is that as an Esper in FFXII he’s indeed the fish-like armor behind the chained goddess (while her blue skin is probably a nod to Shiva); while as a Totema Mateus is a non blue-skinned woman wearing fish-themed armor. Changing genders of summons isn’t uncommon as Leviathan was the King of Eidolons in FFIV while in FFXV the water-elemental sea serpent is a female).

I think it’s a bit ironic how many female characters in fiction have ice powers when women in general don’t have high tolerance to cold like men do 😂
