RC 390 PASSING BIG BIKES AT LAGUNA SECA

- Probably the most fun I've ever had on two wheels. Was battling friends throughout the entire day, but this session in particular was epic fun. Friends are on the Aprilia and the Ducati.
April 27th 2024 Laguna Seca with Pacific Track Times: 2PM session
00:00: Heading out behind friends.
02:30: Pass Aprilia into T2, pass into T3.
03:40: Pass into Rainey curve.
05:00: Coming up on a big group of riders
05:35: Pass outside Rainey Curve
07:05: I get blocked a bunch up the hill and Ducati comes past me. Pass into the corkscrew so I can keep up with the Ducati.
07:40: Battle with big bike at T11 and T2
08:00: Chasing Ducati
10:40: Scary pass on outside of T5
12:00: Double pass on Ducati outside of T2
13:30: Sketchy moment as I lose control again into T11, bounce a bit but save it before running off. Two bikes come by on the straight because of my bad exit.
13:55: Pass Aprilia on the inside into T2
14:40: Pass exit of T5
15:15: Pass on the outside of T9 and Inside of T10 to keep up with Ducati. Aprilia almost comes by me on the straight but decides against it, but some other dude does. But I pass him outside into T2.
16:10: Pass Ducati inside T3 as he runs too wide on exit. Ducati passes me back into T5. Aprilia gets me up the hill. Chequered flag. We all head in.

Beautiful. It's always great to see the underdog succeed. I love how you were always leaving room for the other to do unpredictable things.
Almost makes me want to start riding again.
It's a track day, not a race, not everyone at track days are there to get fast lap times.
I, too, am a B group menace on a small bike. Shit is hilariously fun but can get kind of annoying running into traffic over and over. Solid riding 👌
nice driving, as we all can see, it is al about the driver not the bike, chapeau.
Great cornering skills bro! I've brought an rc390 too last month can't wait to ride it in track
I thought I was already Duked but you got me hooked. That was awesome, I just traded a 22 Duke390-blacksilver- on the 24 Duke 390-blue-, it`s 90% different and twice as good as my last one, I love kTm😁.
NICE!
Beautiful riding skills!! Fast and smooth. Skilled and courteous when passing! If you’re a PTT regular I’m sure you might run into me on my 2023 RC390 with #916
Thank you! This was actually my first and only PTT track day so far, but I'll try to be at more soon. Would love to ride with another RC390, this bike is such a perfect track weapon and I think it's underrepresented!
🥇🏆👑✨
Nice work, hitting your marks and maintaining momentum like a boss, so fun to yo yo with the big bikes and eventually break free.. Ive a 23 RC390, hitting Sonoma for 3rd track day yet, but this time on Diablo rosso 4’s, hoping to get into sub 2:10’s. What lap times were you running at Seca here, was that B group? Awesome vid!
Thanks! Yup, this is B group. This session had me lapping in the 1:52-1:54 range. The fastest I've gone around Laguna was a 1:49.97, I was slower this time but I was having a lot of fun weaving through the big bikes and battling with my friends.
I haven't been to Sonoma yet, but I plan to get out there sometime this season, maybe even in June. The tires make a huge difference, my RC gripped much better on Supercorsa SCs. Enjoy your Rossos, those are great too!
nice
Good riding man, I would have been one of those guys you pass if I was there lol
Smooth riding! What was that at 13:48 ? Almost lost the front.
I don't actually know. That happened to me once in the first session of the day at the same corner and I actually went into the gravel and dropped the bike. Then it happened again once here.
I think I just tipped in too quickly with bad body position and scraped the left footpeg.
Man I wish I could do this
I hope you don't mind me asking, but how tall are you and how much do you weigh? I've thought about getting a smaller bike to do track days and build my skillset, but I've never felt comfortable on them. I wonder if it's possible to get one set up for a 6' tall/200lb rider.
I don't think the additional weight is gonna be too much of an issue, and I recommend getting a small bike for track, it teaches you all about corner speed and keeping the momentum.
Ultimately though it's a personal choice, and something like an RS660 would be the next best option if you strongly believe that a 400 won't cut it. That bike is light and nimble for its class.

Thank for the reply!
This guy is on fire
It’s b group
Wait a minute you're telling me that road racing comes down to skill and not who can spend more at the dealership and on useless accessories.
Who knew?
Wait a minute you're telling me a track day is a race?
This was just downright disrespectful 😂😂
Nice riding! I just got rid of Yamaha R6 track bike and now stuck in choosing between Ninja 400 and this nice orange thing. What exact tyres compound you use - SC1?
I'm on Supercorsa SC3s. I'd strongly recommend this over the Ninja 400 for a track bike. This bike has a more aggressive riding position and adjustable suspension from the factory, which are both really useful for track bikes.
Hi what is done suspension wise to the bike? I want one of these but I am 240 fully geared and have a hunch I may need to at least change springs, shims and oil in the forks and get a new rear.
I'm about 190 fully geared and the stock suspension works great for me. I increased the preload by one click from 3 to 4 to make the bike turn in faster, and I stiffened both the compression and rebound on the front forks to between 5-10 depending on the track, which effectively eliminates fishtailing.
240 is a lot more though, so you may have to do the mods you mentioned, I'm no expert there.
Fantastic job, I have a 2015 rc390 and have ridden it on a few uk trackdays. I love passing faster bikes on it. But also get frustrated when they hold you up
It is not a correct comparison, as there is no doubt that others have less experience and, therefore, less skill. In this case the bike doesnt matter. Find your match so you can lvl up your skill also.
Any mods on your bike?
The only significant one is Pirelli Supercorsas instead of the stock tires, they're so much better for the track. Apart from that, a lithium battery and a K&N air filter, but otherwise pretty much stock.
@@geckods_riding some chasis suspension mods and this little 390 will be a menace on even a advanced rider track days or races. if u see this bike in ur mirrors ,chances r u r being overtaken from the outside in a corner
there is nothing more satisfying than humbling dude's who think their bike is faster..
Their bike is faster. They just can't ride it :D
