Sometimes there are reasons for this and sometimes it’s lazy parenting producing spoilt, entitled brats.

    Yup! I had a teacher friend who got yelled at by a parent bc she was pregnant and thus the due date would interfere with her precious child's education. She requested the teacher move the due date to summer, and called the teacher inconsiderate for daring to become pregnant during the school year. Even going so far as to suggest termination to better align with the parent's schedule. Admin backed the parent up, and the teacher was verbally repremanded for the strain this her inconveniently timed pregnancy was going to put on the school, students, and parents.
    She came to my class crying bc she had been so happy after 2yrs of trying, but now felt so guilty for how this was going to impact the kids.
    It's absolutely insane, and I was furious at them for pulling that tired ol over used guilt trip that they ALWAYS use when the situation is just mildly inconvenient for admin. Seriously, scheduling a life or death surgery and it interferes with a school day? Admin is like, but the children's education will suffer!, Have that surgery during summer break? Admin is like, feel better! We support you 100%! Let us know if we can do anything!
    It's all about if they need to do something or not, not the actual teacher.
    My friend quit teaching after her baby was born. She used the maternity leave time to find another job where she makes 3x more AND has an actually supportive work environment!

    Want to share a story about an extraordinary teacher in my son's life. He has ADHD and she has consistently gone out of her way to help him overcome it. I was working at a job that was a one hour commute and my (then) common-law husband didn't like waiting an extra 15 minutes to go to work while waiting for school to open. She made special arrangements for the school to let ONLY my son come to school half an hour early for almost 2 years. There's a special place in heaven for Mrs. G. Truly above and beyond the call of duty. We love and appreciate her more than words can express.

    To every parent out there for whom such-and-such child-rearing responsibilities are "too much trouble for them": that excuse became invalid the day you or your spouse gave birth to your kids. You knew you had a paid day job to do five days per week eight hours per day BEFORE you or your spouse got pregnant. And you should have known well in advance that life was only going to get HARDER AND MORE INVOLVED BY REQUIREMENT after your offspring came along. Even the most angelic children in the world are tough to raise. Why? It's called PARENTING. Learn to deal with it today or else everybody in the whole entire world will be right up sh*t creek in the very near future!

Some parents are crazy and think you are the care taker when they are in school. I’m retired from education and I have many, many crazy stories. Some parents think after they pop the child out, the raising of the child is the responsibility of the school system.

    That last one, that was gold. It really sums up the absurdity of expectations placed on teachers.
    I like to believe that I have never made an unreasonable request. And, my wife and I seemed baffled at first when my oldest was having trouble in school and her teacher was mildly shaken to bring it up... But then, this puts it into perspective. The examples that you shared here are requests made in passive times, when there is no conflict. I could only imagine what it's like for you when there is a conflict.

    I had a parent show up to our week away science camp demanding to see their kid (not thinking for a moment about how that could trigger MASSIVE homesickness, or how we're required to have a background check for everyone who comes on site). Turns out he only realized how guilty he felt about not spending more time with his kid when the child wasn't at home.

    Love you! One of my memorable moments as a Kinder teacher was a parent who informed me that since the school told her that Kinders need to be toilet trained she sent him without a diaper (his 1st day without). He was not a child with special needs. So could I please take him to the bathroom every half hour or so? Also he will need me to wipe/clean his bottom...and he would need to use a separate/solo bathroom so he wouldn't feel embarrassed. I always wonder when I get requests for 1:1 with their child, What Do You Think the Other 20 Children Will Be Doing While I'm alone with her child!??!

      Hello, parent? "Toilet-trained", not toilet training.

    • @UnknownPerson-il5xk
      @UnknownPerson-il5xk 2 года назад +1

      I totally get that , we had one situation at a day care that I was at where the child was in the process of being potty trained and all through the day at the beginning we would have the child go and try to use the toilet every X amount of hours. Which was going so well at day care and the child was doing so well . So one parent was on board and when the child was at their house they would do that however the other parent couldn’t be bothered to do it so when the child was at that parents house that parent would only use pull ups at all times cuz it was just easier overall to do that rather than taking the child to the bathroom every X number of hours if the child wasn’t going to go when you sat them down . So low and behold whenever that parent dropped off in the morning ( usually by 9 am ) the child was wearing a pull up still ( had been changed since they had woken up clearly ) and the parent would request ( more like require ) that we had the child in a pull up ready to go the minute they got to the Centre . Let’s just say the on board parent was just as ticked off and annoyed at the other parent as we were . ( funny part was the parent who wasn’t on board still seemed to get all baffled at why the child wasn’t potty trained yet and that it must have been due to what we were doing was bogus and that we clearly didn’t know what we were doing . 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

      Believe it. Admins are lackeys for parents. We had to give a student four sets of textbooks (mom, dad, two sets of grandparents) because none of them would communicate with each other. When we got a new student mid-year, and asked for one set of textbooks to be returned so the new kid could have them, the "set of four parenting adults" finally co-operated on something---complaining to the superintendent about the textbook return request. The super sided with them, and we had to copy textbooks chapter by chapter for the new kid. I quit the next year.

My career was successful, challenging and rewarding. It pains me to read so much administration battering. Parents and superintendents put enormous pressure on building Principals. That depends some preschool don't allow students who are not completely potty trained to enroll. In others they help with potty training but the expectation is that the parent will actually try to potty train at home. I've had parents who were not willing to help so their kids had a harder time being trained. They were always confused on why their child wasn't trained and would get upset 🙄.

The schools I went to treated him as a secondary parent (I think that is what it is called). When he picked me up from school sometimes the adults usually looked scared because I would run up and hug him. They thought I was running up and hugging a stranger. My dad handled all of my academics and tutoring me. My dad is the one who took me to almost all of my doctor and dentist appointments. …the school didn’t realize he was my biological father and didn’t know who he was. It's because of parents like this that when my parents tried to talk to my own teachers about reasonable things, the teachers just started screaming. I had a parent once tell me, when I was 16 and it was my job to literally guide children from their drop-off cars to the door safely, that I, the teenager/day camp assistant, was not providing enough academic structure for her child in our summer program.
