In 1987 first trip to Italy we bought our bus ticket and got on the bus, no officials and the validate machine not working. Then after underway when asked for our ticket we show them and we were each fined. The other customers were yelling out on our behalf.
The worst experience was the pick pockets that crowded around us on the local busses on a different trip. My friends packet of tickets for the trip was stolen, but a super kind Italian found them on the next bus route and called our hotel to kindly return them.

About the traintickets, we bought tickets for a specific train ( friday 12 July
14.40 etc). Are you still supposted to validate these as well?
We didnt but now im happy we didnt got checked
