To anyone watching this: I am someone who actually had a private consultation with Martin Ball many years ago. I am also a person who runs my own school of consciousness studies in Australia, now in its tenth year of operation. Like Martin's, my own work touches on non-dual realms of therapy, which of their nature enter unconventional territory. I can categorically state that my personal experience with Martin is that he is both highly benevolent and very professional. It takes enormous courage to work in these realms for the benefit of humanity and Martin has been profoundly misrepresented by Psymposia. Please, think twice before believing hit pieces which denigrate those who walk in territory you are unfamiliar with. The dark side of the psychedelic world needs to be confronted head on. This doesn't take away from what these substances can do if utilised with compassion, respect, clear boundaries, humility on the part of the practitioner and goodwill. However to pretend that people like this don't exist and the problem of rogue people who confuse themselves as healing vehicles rather than the substance's interaction with the consumer's central nervous system is going to cause problems down the line with medicalisation/proliferation if we don't honestly address cultic/guru tendencies, magical thinking and just plain malpractice (malpractice is putting it mildly).
I agree, these people need to be called out by the rational voices in the psychedelic community. There is no hope for legalization or decriminalization with these crazies running around.
This is a very astute comment. Sadly, I've seen more "rogue people who confuse themselves as healing vehicles..etc" than people who are simply real about just being people, who are have some experience with plants and are supporting a safe and beneficial atmosphere for a participants' encounters. The hubris in these communities is incredible, and points back to western society's absolute non-readiness to face the shadows that emerge, hence they are totally bypassed and even transcendentalised, . I get why people are alarmed. I myself grapple with the same feeling. I also know how weird psychedelics can get. From my experience with psychedelic-weirdness, to use a technical term, I'm not so sure he is so much an abuser as he is himself high as fuck on 5meo dmt, and acting in that exceptional sphere. I'd like to know how many of you have experienced 5meo dmt commenting here. Also - we have no idea how he discussed all the potential weird intimacy (you call it abuse) and how that might play out with the client and if they were in fact comfortable with it. I'm almost sure, knowing Martin and how open and confident he is, that he would not take on a client without discussing and wouldnt take on a client that said they werent comfortable with all the things that might occur, with sex being off the table. I believe him when he says he did not have sex with clients.

It is up to the client to determine if they experienced mocking or trauma. In the case of the Jewish gentleman, he responded with gratitude. Martin is an unapologetic pioneer with his own unique method of working with Aya. We dont need haters in this space.

I see what he did there! That's a neat trick: identifying your conscience as your ego, and then just killing it, so that your actual ego can carry on "following the energy", which of course means puking on people and touching their genitals, even though apparently you could have achieved the same thing just from stroking their throats! The guy has a very superficial understanding of symmetry, else he would be able to see how it was only a matter of time before someone punched him in the face. Extreme lack of grace. Here's my reply to ol' Adeptus, 'cos I watched his video/Ball's response first, in case you're interested/want some support from someone else who has also long smelt something (not)funny with MB... "I watched this first, because it popped up, and then went back to watch the psymposia piece. Watching this, I found myself basically giving him the benefit of the doubt - he has irritated me intensely since he first popped up on the scene railing against entities, or really any kind of imaginative encounter, and proclaiming the gospel of the nondual as if it wasn't itself a position or interpretation. His treatment of symmetry is graceless and superficial. He is one of the reasons I've stayed away from 5meo - there are so many fucking pricks around it! Anyway, watching this I figured perhaps he was being demonised, and felt quite sorry for him - but when I thought about it more, and then went back and watched the other video - I remembered why I never liked him, and beyond that found there to be something quite insidious and twisted lurking in his work/approach. It seems to me that what he talks about as the voice of his ego (Don't puke on that person, it's gross) is after all the voice of his conscience, and one he might like to take council from more often. Notice as well how he sometimes says "I accidentally puked on them because I couldn't get to the bucket" (Ok fine, I get it) then other times "They needed to be puked on". I'm sorry but the guy isn't being honest with himself, so how can he be being honest with us? I'm 100% for consenting adults being able to do whatever the fuck they want - but I think in these experimental, healing/therapeutic spaces there is a large degree of uncertainty about what is necessary, what is appropriate, even what the fuck is actually going on... which is why I think REALLY interrogating and critiquing these practises is important - especially if he goes on to present them as some kind of a path. I think it is much more likely that he is getting just as much out of the encounter as his clients - this is fine to a point, to the degree it is conscious and part of the deal perhaps - but he says he is puking FOR them, like he is some kind of a clear channel, when to me it is quite clear that he has his own preferences/inclinations. It also seems likely that he began purging more after the physical attack because he himself had some healing to do with that. There's a symmetry there, too, you know? He also says he is able to work on the genitals, for instance, by touching the throat - and I know from my own experiences that healing can work like this - you get touched somewhere but some place else gets effected - you don't even really always need to be touched. I've got nothing against going there, btw, in principle - it's just these little contradictions in what he's saying don't quite sit right with me. If he was telling people up front he might do that, fair enough. But so much about this guy stinks to me. I don't think he's really bad, I just don't think he's done as much work as he seems to think he has, his ego and belief system seem pretty set in stone to me, and I'm not sure he's really taken on board the whys of those who are upset or disturbed by him. This is, without doubt, a violation of ethics and boundaries by a man who bathes in the blind light of his own ego. This kind of attack is so ignorant. I have tried Bofu and worked with dr.Martin ball, he’s one of the most brilliant minds honestly. It’s so easy for people to take just pieces of information out of context, but if you have experienced Bofu and you really experienced ego death, you’ll understand what he’s talking about and deeply appreciate it. The way he’s able to deliver and educate people on this subject matter is simply one of the greatest treasures for humanity.

It’s worth noting that Psymposia never attempted to directly engage with Martin Ball on this topic, despite his responses on other platforms addressing their unfair critiques. They present themselves as authoritative voices on deep non-dual states of consciousness, yet it’s apparent they lack a true understanding of the implications of substances that dissolve the sense of self entirely. There is no formal school or certification for this kind of knowledge-only direct, long-term experience can provide the insight needed to navigate such profound states. Martin Ball, with decades of firsthand experience, is a rare and invaluable resource in this field. Instead of dismissing or sabotaging his work, we should be listening to and learning from people like him, not these individuals who seem more intent on discrediting than understanding.

So one side is the rubble pile, including all "versions" of characters, including the so-called accused "actions" of said characters. It is what it is. mischaracterizationregarding these matters that may betray personal shadow and bias. What refuses to rubbish is what is, and THIS is beyond cultural control through norms, normativeculture and moral relativism. This IS-ness that IS, is beyond reach of all the fingers that seek into it. The fingers of power, control, ownership, authority, ideology, cognitive conviction, right-ness, wrong-ness, belief, law or legal assertion, muscle or mechanism of any sort. I might argue that insofar as Martin is charting a bi-lateral self-organization that constitutes a grace state of God, and bi-lateral DIS-organization and politicalMartin may or may not confirm that in some way this symmetry of God is not only intra- and central at the spine, but inter- and central at face-to-face in relationship with another. Martin never meant to hurt anyone. He is a loving guy and there is a good reasons why most of his clients swear by him and took multiple sessions with him. He's only getting hate because what he's doing is considered socially inappropriate.

I actually agree with you for the most part, or maybe overall. I think this editing was a bit (way) over the top, and in my opinion actually detracts from the issues seen in Balls talk; they speak for themselves (I hope). The whole video was very difficult and disturbing to sit through. As much as everyone seems to have scruples with psychedelic facilitation "going capitalism" I would say that's the best thing that can happen. I personally would not want to take these compounds with a guide, or anyone for that matter, but I see the reason people want this (or, no pun intended, need this) and I think having a legally sanctioned, safe and sound space and facilitator would be a huge boon. I'm not sure what Psymposias goal is; ostensibly to bring light to injustices? I do think giving people the tools they need is better than simply telling them who to not listen to. We have some pretty great forums to get info though.

To anyone watching this: I am someone who actually had a private consultation with Martin Ball many years ago. I am also a person who runs my own school of consciousness studies in Australia, now in its tenth year of operation. Like Martin's, my own work touches on non-dual realms of therapy, which of their nature enter unconventional territory. I can categorically state that my personal experience with Martin is that he is both highly benevolent and very professional. It takes enormous courage to work in these realms for the benefit of humanity and Martin has been profoundly misrepresented by Psymposia. Please, think twice before believing hit pieces which denigrate those who walk in territory you are unfamiliar with. The dark side of the psychedelic world needs to be confronted head on. This doesn't take away from what these substances can do if utilised with compassion, respect, clear boundaries, humility on the part of the practitioner and goodwill. However to pretend that people like this don't exist and the problem of rogue people who confuse themselves as healing vehicles rather than the substance's interaction with the consumer's central nervous system is going to cause problems down the line with medicalisation/proliferation if we don't honestly address cultic/guru tendencies, magical thinking and just plain malpractice (malpractice is putting it mildly).
I agree, these people need to be called out by the rational voices in the psychedelic community. There is no hope for legalization or decriminalization with these crazies running around.

Sadly, I've seen more "rogue people who confuse themselves as healing vehicles..etc" than people who are simply real about just being people, who are have some experience with plants and are supporting a safe and beneficial atmosphere for a participants' encounters. I get why people are alarmed. I myself grapple with the same feeling. I also know how weird psychedelics can get. From my experience with psychedelic-weirdness, to use a technical term, I'm not so sure he is so much an abuser as he is himself high as fuck on 5meo dmt, and acting in that exceptional sphere. I'd like to know how many of you have experienced 5meo dmt commenting here. Also - we have no idea how he discussed all the potential weird intimacy (you call it abuse) and how that might play out with the client and if they were in fact comfortable with it. I'm almost sure, knowing Martin and how open and confident he is, that he would not take on a client without discussing and wouldnt take on a client that said they werent comfortable with all the things that might occur, with sex being off the table. I believe him when he says he did not have sex with clients.

Watching this, I found myself basically giving him the benefit of the doubt - he has irritated me intensely since he first popped up on the scene railing against entities, or really any kind of imaginative encounter, and proclaiming the gospel of the nondual as if it wasn't itself a position or interpretation. His treatment of symmetry is graceless and superficial. He is one of the reasons I've stayed away from 5meo - there are so many fucking pricks around it!

I think it is much more likely that he is getting just as much out of the encounter as his clients - this is fine to a point, to the degree it is conscious and part of the deal perhaps - but he says he is puking FOR them, like he is some kind of a clear channel, when to me it is quite clear that he has his own preferences/inclinations. It also seems likely that he began purging more after the physical attack because he himself had some healing to do with that. There's a symmetry there, too, you know?
He also says he is able to work on the genitals, for instance, by touching the throat - and I know from my own experiences that healing can work like this - you get touched somewhere but some place else gets effected - you don't even really always need to be touched. I've got nothing against going there, btw, in principle - it's just these little contradictions in what he's saying don't quite sit right with me. If he was telling people up front he might do that, fair enough.
But so much about this guy stinks to me. I don't think he's really bad, I just don't think he's done as much work as he seems to think he has, his ego and belief system seem pretty set in stone to me, and I'm not sure he's really taken on board the whys of those who are upset or disturbed by him.

I would just add that when I spoke to him I wasn’t aware of these practices that Martin uses. If I had then I would have questioned him about them, as to me some of these sound unnecessary and intrusive.

It’s so easy for people to take just pieces of information out of context, but if you have experienced Bofu and you really experienced ego death, you’ll understand what he’s talking about and deeply appreciate it. Why didn’t Psymposia want to have a discussion with Rob? Why didn’t they want to have a discussion with Martin either? Why were they afraid of an online live discussion? Is all that they are interested in attacking Mark Haden in any way they possibly can? What trash journalism on their part. Who is/was paying them?!
I saw a shaman (Western) vomiting whilst working with someone once. No consent was gained beforehand and it was explained afterwards that the shaman processes trauma of clients through his body. No one minded at the time, and I still don’t mind. I don’t want anyone sticking their tongue in my mouth, but that’s just me. Psymposia could have said the same thing to him: that they wouldn’t want to experience what he described in the edited videos. And they could have made an argument about consent not always being informed when vulnerable people are accessing support, and then heard his reply. But they didn’t bother. Why? Because they had an agenda from the outset. And that agenda sounds like it relates to Mark Haden.
Psymposia should have highlighted the whole thing by discussing their ideas in a video with Martin. Not by producing this pathetic little video. Why didn’t they interview him instead? It’s so valuable to talk about practices we find dubious or even abusive in the psychedelic community. But the talking needs to be carried out in a mature way.

I actually agree with you for the most part, or maybe overall. I think this editing was a bit (way) over the top, and in my opinion actually detracts from the issues seen in Balls talk; they speak for themselves (I hope). The whole video was very difficult and disturbing to sit through.
As much as everyone seems to have scruples with psychedelic facilitation "going capitalism" I would say that's the best thing that can happen. I personally would not want to take these compounds with a guide, or anyone for that matter, but I see the reason people want this (or, no pun intended, need this) and I think having a legally sanctioned, safe and sound space and facilitator would be a huge boon.
I'm not sure what Psymposias goal is; ostensibly to bring light to injustices? I do think giving people the tools they need is better than simply telling them who to not listen to. We have some pretty great forums to get info though.

@@Psymposia My suggestions would be Jimmy Dore, Bad Faith w/Briahna Joy Gray, Current Affairs, Jacobin, The Michael Brooks Show, Richard Wolff (Democracy at Work), etc. Raising awareness about the commodification & mainstreaming of psychedelics definitely needs to be disseminated & working with any of those leftist groups would help that cause imo.
