Vegetation indices (VIs) are numerical indicators derived from remote sensing data that provide information about vegetation characteristics. These indices are calculated using combinations of spectral bands from satellite or airborne sensors, especially those in the visible, near-infrared (NIR), and shortwave-infrared (SWIR) regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.
