It’s tough to do different swing weights especially with hot melt but there are other alternatives. For players that need it most places don’t mind tipping a shaft whether it be through a custom order or the shop doing it themselves. I try my best when I fit people to give great experience and product no matter what it takes. Some people just like loopholes for the commission unfortunately
Very cool. How would this differ if you did an adjustable hosel that your player could tweak? I am 55 and so happy I learned club repair in my early teens. I don't have all the gear you have, but enough along with the ability to do my own work with the same attention and care as you do this. Same with my skis...not sure I'd trust many shops do touch either.
Awesome video Trottie! Getting a custom build is the way to go. However, the customization and detail you get into is not something us normal consumers are privy to when doing a custom order through Taylormade. The crown recently popped off of my Sim 2 Max 3 wood and that’s a story in itself in trying to deal with Taylormade’s warranty. I’ve been trying to order a QI10 3 wood to replace it with a Fuji TR Blue 8X tipped 1.5 inches, but was told by at least 5 customer service reps that they can’t tip it any more than an inch and to go through a third party builder. It’s quite frustrating to go through so many hurdles, but have been a longtime Taylormade user and been enjoying your content for many years

Fitting for your pros, yes. They get access to the best. I been through 3 fittings (full bag) and got 3 totally different recommendations. For the average golfer, grab the clubs you like and go play. Fittings are worthless
🤣 obv I don't agree but I love the passion. I think a lot of great FITR's have a style and a preference but ultimately the best FITR's from the best brands all get to the same place.
@trottiegolf I play TR Blue 6x tipped .5” in driver what what I go for in 5 wood? 8x tr blue or 8x tr black and thoughts on tipping? 108mph club with 5 wood down 2’ current is stealth with Addi 8x tipped 1.5” handle feels soft
What custom fitting can’t solve for us average folks is the way-too-upright lie angles of the standard TaylorMade fairway woods. Third parties won’t even try bending them because it invalidates the warranty. There’s got to be some way to solve this issue, because everything else about the QI10 fairway woods is awesome.
There's a company called Wishon Golf, their fairway woods have hosels that were designed to be bent. I'm the opposite of you I like them more upright and I have a set of woods of his that were bent 4 upright but could easily have them bent 4 flat.
Hi, I'm from the Philippines and I dont think we have fitters here who do what you do. From time to time, I fly to the US for vacation. How do I schedule a fitting with TM? How long does it take to fit and change the shafts? I play with a complete set of TM but feel like I havent maximized my clubs. Qi10s on top and P790s with MG4s.
What's your take on "puring" the graphite shafts? I think they used to call it frequency matching, too...but that might be a different thing altogether.
Tiger does it with irons. Which makes me think there's something there. As for woods the engineers tell me there's nothing there BUT when you see the process live it's hard to think it doesn't make an impact on the shaft. Not sure if you watched the previous vid on iron shafts (link below) but the KBS engineer talks about frequency and weight matching. I think it's interesting and I think it's player dependent. Take a listen to this: ruclips.net/video/o5mNeX_i0rY/видео.htmlsi=vPD12Gko7dY3WFQG
@mg9955 cleaner look than lead tape, although tour bags are filled with it. Hot melt is good for woods because it mutes sound and can give the wood a muted feel. Imo, mostly preference.
Trottie I got custom fit qi10 woods and p770s. At the time I played standard tour velvet coord grips but recently changed them to midsize. How can I change swing weight post build without during lead tape? Shops around here don’t do hotmelt.
oh man. 1) have you weighed the clubs now? 2) you're not gonna love this.... Assuming you 're a solid builder it's a disassemble and reassemble process with lead powder mixed into the glue. You then weigh each club as you reassemble. BUT If you added the same amount of tape and all midsize then the good news is you moved everything SO remeasure all before you start the whole process or taking heads off. Stats and Data will tell you if you have a real problem here or if you can get over it. Tough one though and I get it.
From what I understand being in my second year of playing golf, a "custom fitting" for us mere mortals wont include anything that looks anything like this. And also getting fitted before your swing resembles anything consistent seems dumb to me. Although as an engineer I absolutely applaud your attention to detail. Fun video.
Trottie, guestion about swingweight. I've seen some builders on golfwrx say that all builds should be done with a standard grip weight to desired sw, then extra wraps or oversized grips applied, otherwise you're just fooling the machine. Is this how the TM tour truck does it or is it swingweighted after say +3 wraps, mid-sized Tour velvet? Thank you.
Good question. Love the level of questions coming in. We always swing weight according to the grip weight and the number of tapes. To be honest to get it right I think you have to. Hence the importance of getting it right on the grip selection and number of tapes.
I would argue that - if the most popular youtube golfers that have access to the best fitters and best equipment - still end up switching clubs/shafts/balls..etc after the fact. What hope does the average golfer have in getting a fitting that will have a lasting impact?
I tipped the Driver an inch, I'm working off of that. With this much loft I'd usually go 2" to be honest. As the loft goes up you can tip more. Rule of thumb. There are of course variables.
I have been told by leading engineers that it doesn't have an impact on performance BUT then I see the process and speak to SST folk and I think personally it could. The "how much" question is of course the Million Dollar question.
@@trottiegolf thanks for the response. Guessing it’s all down to the individual swinging the club and the builder of the club on how good a job they do. I’ve just had my first fitting that included looking at swing weight and it was a huge eye opener as to the impact it makes, even for a mid handicap. Get the clubs back next week after the changes and hoping to see some vast improvement
Here's my question about fitting that I hope someone can answer seriously. If I went for a fitting as a 10 handicap currently and got clubs to suit my current swing. I'm having lessons so regularly working on new things. As my swing changes and improves will the clubs no longer suit me?
I think at 10 you should be able to dial in the general spec and your preferences, I do think as you improve you might want to adjust your lie angles (most likely flatter) and your set make up (that can be add on clubs in certain spots) Beyond that it's grip changes (keep an eye on swing weights) but you'll be set for a while with a good fitting.
Trottie got a question since I don't have or use Instagram - Do you have a video regarding Driver Swing Weight? I got fitted this past weekend into Qi 10 LS 9 degree with a 60x Graphite Design HD (white with blue graphics) and swing weight was D8 @ 45.5" EOG Off the shelf was D5.5 ( at local golf retailer) Is that too heavy of a swing weight for driver (for general rule of thumb)? Any tour players / brand ambassadors flirting around that swing weight in that general area? Avg Swing speed 120 with max of 128 (with D8 swing weight during fitting)
Easily one of my most underrated videos: ruclips.net/video/Ww2GaXSEX9Q/видео.htmlsi=wyvwG-R8fbxx8Wjx It's old now and to be honest I think I need to refresh.... In fact I will this winter! Right your driver question: D8 is heavy Clarke lived at D8 for most of his career Rory flirted with D7 at times Older generation guys tend to be heavier PGA Tour average I'd say D4 European Tour average I'd say D3 Asian Tour / Japan / Korea I'd say D2 Australia / SA D4 Your Speed D4 / D5 would be my personal start point but look if you play D8 and you're smashing it then you'll get more speed because it's more mass BUT if you can't hit the middle with the rest of your sticks then that's gotta be addressed.
@@trottiegolf That is amazing information, Thanks Trottie! I am going to watch the video now. I should have mentioned my height is 6'5". I play +1" on my iron lengths with 120 X STIFF LA Shafts with 7i avg speed around 100mph varying from 98 - 103 mph. Typical strike pattern is middle face with slight toe bias on irons. The Driver fitting was at Club champion with their proprietary adapter system with a standard tour velvet grip (no extra wraps) and I play Midsize MCC +4. With the my grip weight being about 16-17 grams heavier, that balance point would move up and I may end up at the D4-D6 SW range. Your comment about the older generation guys tend to be heavier, I would say I might fall in that category. I think that is why I gave up the Paradym (first gen), it felt too light in the head and I couldn't feel where the face was at. Results of the fitting was all my shots were left, but aiming was same, swing was the same (Qi10 came in when I was 60 minutes in and over 100 swings in). Small grip just meant I overcooked the face and swing path left. The Qi10 made everything (head + path) come back to neutral and immediately put 3 shots center fairway with ~15 yds dispersion from left to right. I did do a "overswing" where I wanted to see how the ball would be if I tried to swing super hard like I was trying for 130mph. Qi10 was right rough BUT very playable (if its in play you have a shot), everything else was high spin right and out of play or behind trees. If you don't have time reply to these questions that is fine ( use them for the refresh video if you want for this winter) Since I am fit with a standard grip + 45.5" EOG driver with SW of D8 but my gamer grip is ~20 grams heavier, should the club be swing weighted back up to original fitted weight OR should it be left alone since it would be the same mass at point of impact? With hot melt being option - to swing weight a driver would you put the hot melt in the same area of the head as the tracked weight (LS models), screwed in weight ports (heel weight of base Qi 10 model) or do it based on flight characteristic desires? If you PURE a wood shaft does that impact the delivery of a club head that is Heavy D5-D8 or no impact at all? I look forward to the refresh video Trottie and next tour truck tuesday! I also love my 2024 Burner Mini Drive 13.5*, the darn thing is a ROCKET.
@@fictionalgaming912 1) lotta info thx 2) oversized grips and SW. Be sure to match your set and feel unless you're into a 60* that you want heavier or have a specific club you want heavier 3) Then hot melt I go with shot pattern and miss tendency. Todd hits pull cuts (7 wood in this video) so I place the hot melt in the heel to help with the occasional right miss.
GREAT QUESTION! Ideally a club fitting. Different shafts perform differently & individuals have different feels. Start point. Take your absolute favorite club or all time and go use that as your north star. Weigh it, measure all the parameters and work off that. If you're a solid player a key point is centeredness of strike, ensure you have that and go from there
@@trottiegolf I apologize in advance for the long follow up comment before you begin reading, LOL but Where should someone go to get a fitting like that? I would say i struggle most with my longer clubs, 3h 3w and driver. I typically go to Golf Galaxy (I live in central NY in the US) and based on the few fittings I've done there they aren't equipped to test swing weight. They didn't even have more than one different kind of x-stiff shaft for me to try when I was getting fit for my driver and three wood. I also recently learned that typically the shaft for your 3 wood should be heavier than the shaft for your driver and the driver shaft I bought for myself is a 75g x-stiff pro force shaft (which I like) and they fit me with a 70 g hazardous smoke x-stiff shaft. I just feel like they don't have the best ability to fit players and are just trying to sell you whatever they can. I also had the face of my driver and 3 wood crack this summer so i am looking to get fit for a new 3 wood because Titleist wouldn't replace the tsi3 that i have only had for 2 years. Luckily TaylorMade replaced my stealth with a Qi10 with very few questions asked. I just want to go somewhere to get fit where I know that I'm not going to get sold something just for the sake of them selling something, I want to have something that works for me as i am approaching a 5 HCP according to 18 birdies(the GPS app i use to track my rounds and work my way around the golf course).

I have no idea. Kingdom Invitational and unique pricing on that day. I don't know where we ended up albeit with this level of service I think it's worth a pretty penny.
I’ve had fittings and some feel like a process of elimination, just keep trying different shafts and heads that produce the best results. No measurements, no tipping, no grip check no lie/loft check etc… also had fittings where I’ve had a misunderstanding machine on a shaft and that told me what shaft I need after a few swings. Nothing like your videos.
Yea I'm not sure YET on where I sit on Ai fittings and online fittings and machine recommendations. Things are improving without doubt but there's still a human element required. So you’re basically saying that unless we are privileged to get a tour van fitting, our expensive TM clubs that maybe fitted but built at the factory are shite

Are they really a custom fitter then?
Wow, do they do those kind of specs for regular people? The weights, the hot melt, the "END OF GRIP" measurement?
if you're getting fitted by a top fitter then they're gonna be looking at this jazz for sure
It’s quite frustrating to go through so many hurdles, but have been a longtime Taylormade user and been enjoying your content for many years
Thx Michael. Yea that's tough to read, sorry to hear that.
Trottie!! Hope you have Ian on your channel on a recurring basis now that he's stepping away from the RUclips channel. Seems like a standup dude and an absolute wealth of golf knowledge
Frase is good people. He's welcome anytime and I'd like to think he knows that. Nothing but respect for all he's achieved in his career and the path he has chosen.

Wade with out a beard?!?!?!? Are we in a different universe?? 😂
🤣🪒got him
@trottiegolf I play TR Blue 6x tipped .5” in driver what what I go for in 5 wood? 8x tr blue or 8x tr black and thoughts on tipping? 108mph club with 5 wood down 2’ current is stealth with Addi 8x tipped 1.5” handle feels soft
I got into club building cause I can’t buy off the shelf. To tall and I’m not paying for clubs to then pay more for extensions.
You glued it in and heat set it but didn't pure the shaft?
Unfortunately the Qi FWY's are way to upright from the factory
What's your take on "puring" the graphite shafts? I think they used to call it frequency matching, too...but that might be a different thing altogether.
Tiger does it with irons. Which makes me think there's something there. As for woods the engineers tell me there's nothing there BUT when you see the process live it's hard to think it doesn't make an impact on the shaft.
Not sure if you watched the previous vid on iron shafts (link below) but the KBS engineer talks about frequency and weight matching.
I think it's interesting and I think it's player dependent.
Take a listen to this:

@@trottiegolf Thanks. Will check the link you shared!
No spine alignment with the shaft ?
Only people who are in the competitive golf world it matters. Regular folks not soo much.
Did he say 19* did u hear that right? If so Damn that’s a strong 7w
For just overall length on my 7 wood, 5ft 7in, should I get mine shortened a bit? It’s currently standard
Depends on AOA and how you want to use it. I wouldn't recommend over 41.50" EOG on a USGA Ruler
Why hot melt over lead tapes/weights? Whats the diff? When should one be preferred over the other??
@mg9955 cleaner look than lead tape, although tour bags are filled with it. Hot melt is good for woods because it mutes sound and can give the wood a muted feel. Imo, mostly preference.
Only problem is, not every fitter offer all of the swing weight, tipping and all of the rest available.
Trottie..the hot melt process seems like a guess? IE you don’t really know how much is in the exact position you need it?
Trottie I got custom fit qi10 woods and p770s. At the time I played standard tour velvet coord grips but recently changed them to midsize. How can I change swing weight post build without during lead tape? Shops around here don’t do hotmelt.
oh man.
1) have you weighed the clubs now?
2) you're not gonna love this....
Assuming you 're a solid builder it's a disassemble and reassemble process with lead powder mixed into the glue.
You then weigh each club as you reassemble.
BUT
If you added the same amount of tape and all midsize then the good news is you moved everything SO remeasure all before you start the whole process or taking heads off.
Stats and Data will tell you if you have a real problem here or if you can get over it.
Tough one though and I get it.
How does the curing process work if heat loosens epoxy?
Bakes it. I'm assuming there will be something in the epoxy that dries with heat as it's a two part mix.
Do you ever ‘pure’ shafts on your?
Nope. Not every time.
From what I understand being in my second year of playing golf, a "custom fitting" for us mere mortals wont include anything that looks anything like this. And also getting fitted before your swing resembles anything consistent seems dumb to me. Although as an engineer I absolutely applaud your attention to detail. Fun video.
No shaft puring ?
is that a rolex GM or submariner on your wrist? Trottie rolling in cash😂😂
No Puring of the shaft??
Why tip 1 3/4" instead of 1" per Fujikura tip trimming specs? Seems like it will play really tip stiff.
I tipped the Driver an inch, I'm working off of that.
With this much loft I'd usually go 2" to be honest.
As the loft goes up you can tip more. Rule of thumb. There are of course variables.
Trottie how much does Puring the shaft help? You didn’t do that with this build? Or is it more for pro players
If only we could get our fairways and hybrid loft and lied like this 😥 class though.
Here's my question about fitting that I hope someone can answer seriously.
If I went for a fitting as a 10 handicap currently and got clubs to suit my current swing. I'm having lessons so regularly working on new things. As my swing changes and improves will the clubs no longer suit me?
I think at 10 you should be able to dial in the general spec and your preferences, I do think as you improve you might want to adjust your lie angles (most likely flatter) and your set make up (that can be add on clubs in certain spots)
Beyond that it's grip changes (keep an eye on swing weights) but you'll be set for a while with a good fitting.
@@trottiegolf thanks Trottie!
So every custom build for Joe public is built like this pull the other one.
Trottie got a question since I don't have or use Instagram - Do you have a video regarding Driver Swing Weight? I got fitted this past weekend into Qi 10 LS 9 degree with a 60x Graphite Design HD (white with blue graphics) and swing weight was D8 @ 45.5" EOG
Off the shelf was D5.5 ( at local golf retailer)
Is that too heavy of a swing weight for driver (for general rule of thumb)? Any tour players / brand ambassadors flirting around that swing weight in that general area?
Avg Swing speed 120 with max of 128 (with D8 swing weight during fitting)
Easily one of my most underrated videos:
ruclips.net/video/Ww2GaXSEX9Q/видео.htmlsi=wyvwG-R8fbxx8Wjx
It's old now and to be honest I think I need to refresh.... In fact I will this winter!
Right your driver question:
D8 is heavy
Clarke lived at D8 for most of his career
Rory flirted with D7 at times
Older generation guys tend to be heavier
PGA Tour average I'd say D4
European Tour average I'd say D3
Asian Tour / Japan / Korea I'd say D2
Australia / SA D4
Your Speed D4 / D5 would be my personal start point but look if you play D8 and you're smashing it then you'll get more speed because it's more mass
BUT
if you can't hit the middle with the rest of your sticks then that's gotta be addressed.
If you don't have time reply to these questions that is fine ( use them for the refresh video if you want for this winter)
Since I am fit with a standard grip + 45.5" EOG driver with SW of D8 but my gamer grip is ~20 grams heavier, should the club be swing weighted back up to original fitted weight OR should it be left alone since it would be the same mass at point of impact?
With hot melt being option - to swing weight a driver would you put the hot melt in the same area of the head as the tracked weight (LS models), screwed in weight ports (heel weight of base Qi 10 model) or do it based on flight characteristic desires?
If you PURE a wood shaft does that impact the delivery of a club head that is Heavy D5-D8 or no impact at all?
I look forward to the refresh video Trottie and next tour truck tuesday! I also love my 2024 Burner Mini Drive 13.5*, the darn thing is a ROCKET.
@@fictionalgaming912
1) lotta info thx
2) oversized grips and SW. Be sure to match your set and feel unless you're into a 60* that you want heavier or have a specific club you want heavier
3) Then hot melt I go with shot pattern and miss tendency. Todd hits pull cuts (7 wood in this video) so I place the hot melt in the heel to help with the occasional right miss.
Be my fitter/builder!! For YT! LMAO
how do you know what swing weigh tis right for you?
@@mikehoalcraft8381 yea the whole fitting scene as I dig deeper seems a mine field. Sorry that I don't have anywhere in particular that I recommend. I have a couple of trusted friends I know in the UK but US is a different deal outside of tour.
I'm working on it though so stay tuned to the newsletter found on www.trottiegolf.com
Question .... Do they just call in Onion Soup over there??? Asking for a friend
I met Trottie a couple of weeks ago in a Montreal Airport after the Presidents Cup. We talked for a few minuets and he took a picture with me. I acted like a little kid at Christmas and Chris was such a nice, genuine guy! It was a great way to start off my trip to Vegas.
No site in uk offers this level. They say they do but they dont

@@iMc404 been 2 of worse fittings I ve ever had
Jason MacNiven or Nick Hibbs will get you close.
Looks like J.Mac is now in with Club Champion and Hibbsey is Tour X
Both good lads, Nick been out on Tour and J.Mac knows his stuff.
I'd start there. NOTE - these are personal recommendations but I would assume they carry TaylorMade
Custom fitting means nothing without a proper build process and vice versa
Depends on where you go, no?
Player dependent*

what is the final cost? $300 head $300 shaft $300 build=$900 7wood?
I have no idea. Kingdom Invitational and unique pricing on that day. I don't know where we ended up albeit with this level of service I think it's worth a pretty penny.
“Measure twice cut once” I cut it 3 times and it’s still too short
@@yo-bass-cat4027 should’ve measured 6 times then 🤣😂
I’ve had fittings and some feel like a process of elimination, just keep trying different shafts and heads that produce the best results.
The problem appears to be that it's tough to find a great FITR. At least that's what I feel I'm reading from the comments on the channel.
I'll keep dropping nuggets and I'm sure that'll lead to a solution at some stage. I'm working on it Matt.
Appreciate your comments 👍
There’s custom fitting and custom fitting ….. mine have never been that in depth ever ….
So you’re basically saying that unless we are privileged to get a tour van fitting, our expensive TM clubs that maybe fitted but built at the factory are shite
i noticed you didnt pure the shaft. do you not believe in that ?
@@warrenforbes8731 I’m still on the fence with it. Certainly don’t disregard that there could be something there
Custom fitting should be free from companies like taylormade
And how do normal golfers find something anywhere close to this. 99% of fittings are pointless. I asked in a fitting if i could hit a different iron than a 7 iron and they guy looked so confused.
Why can't amateurs get hot melt?
They can. You just gotta find a good builder.
This isn't rocket science. It's a golf club, head, shaft, grip. Tip it maybe to fit the players specs, choose the grip , shaft, etc.
My man! The average golfer plays used or cheap golf balls. Why tell us to go get fitted and spend 2-5k 😂 you are a joke for that
Look I love Trottie because clearly massively knowledgeable but what is the point in videos like this. Trottie is average golfers are never going to get the type of fitting from someone like you. Especially in 🇬🇧 wouldn’t have a clue where to go
That might change one day, so just showing what's possible. Plus I did offer fittings at The Kingdom Invitational this year.
@ unfortunately Trottie living in the UK not easy to just jump on a plane and come to the Kingdom. That in itself would be a dream then to get a fitting from you well enough said. Would probably be the pinnacle for me. I’m a 45 year old man but would be great to see what you could do to my scores with proper fitting. I’ve only ever had one and from what I’ve seen it wasn’t even close to what I should have had. Never once did we talk about lie angle or lofts , shafts nothing. Hopefully one day you may be in 🇬🇧 and can give me the real experience of a proper fitting
