  • This is how Mihai Bobocica made the history of the Italian table tennis at ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals in Durban. Any italian player before him had ever managed to qualify for the round of 16 of the men’s singles.
After beating the Egyptian Ahmed Saleh and the French Simon Gauzy, he also managed to win with the Spanish Alvaro Robles, earning a place in round of 16. Bobocica must give in to the Japanese Tomokazu Harimoto in four sets.
His incredible performance will remain in history.

Does this dude every get tired? Jesus, he's relentless with his topspin attacks! This is nearly china level of offensive barragery! I wonder, if Bobocica can every play a tournament like this again, or if he was a one trick pony? Besides him playing out of his mind, its nonetheless funny to see how big the gap to the real elite players is. He played possibly the best tournament of his life, and harimoto schooled him with a less than average performance!

@@yardmanvibes3559 not true. These points show exactly the difference in (mental) skills. Although the italian player played the tournament of his life, he couldnt seal the deal. Thats what really differs very good players from the elite. Their ability to perform under pressure!

@@matmagix3845 of course it does. But that doesnt contradict my orginal statement. And all of the discussion in here started because of that.
I was saying the italian guy played the tournament of his life and lost nonetheless against Harimoto pretty cleary. Then a guy in here wrote, that it wasnt that clear, because the Matches went 11:8 or smth most of the time. But my point is, if all the matches end like that,, its quite clear too. These players are like 'the same level good' in the technical aspect. But the one that wins 3 times 11:8 is just better mentally.
And thats were you junmp in. Of course with these hard matches, Harimoto had more time to experience and practice his mental game.

It is very entertaining to watch his matches and I hope that he keeps climbing on the world ranking and qualifying for more tournaments.

Im sorry i got the nerve to mention that one of the best italian performance in (2023) table tennis was accomplished by a romanian.
Ps: we have a very very strong tradition in table tennis with great results, even nowadays. Pps: There are also other romanian players who decided to represent different countries and (as u know, i suppose) the best example is Kalinikos Kreanga (Calin Creanga).

Gauzy is currently wr.37 and has been a lot higher before….. oh I see thank you for the reminder BUT when it comes to play against a player with a higher rank Gauzy is nowhere to be found in a tournament or in bundesliga.
He got points with the last counting point in place. But since this system has changed gauzy can’t get the rank he got before
So, I agree Gauzy is a « blahblah » player but we’re talking bout Gauzy not Quadri or Assar, real warriors ( I’ve mentioned those 2 outside the top 10 to be fair !)
I’m french by the way so I don’t have any feelings involved.
This unknown Italian is RANKED 81., if you call that unknown I really disagree. At least, get on internet to get informations more accurate 🙏

@@l.franfort6340 you're really harsh on him here. The new ranking system is definitely worse for showing a player's level as it allocate pointa based on how far the player gets in a tournament, and not who he's playing against like it was with the old system. And I would disagree with suggestion that Gauzy isn't a fighter

The only year he could have won the europoean title he missed it against another french player that gauzy could have played against him with his left hand so…
What’s more Gauzy still remains a top ranked player but we’re not expecting anything from him anymore,
Lebrun’s brothers are doing way better now on
And so, during the Wttc we’ve been skipping Gauzy’s performance to fully watch lebrun’s brothers playing.

Complimenti ancora Bob! Dai speranza a tutti i "vecchietti" italiani. E' stata un impresa emozionante e ispirante. Continua così.
