I completely agree. When I first hear it, I thought someone was trying to harmonize with her. What a pleasant surprise. That and the little "Feeling Good" tag at the end.
I first listened to her at a wedding in Austin. she played the whole night outdoors under the starry night as people danced and drank the night away. I love her music!
I sense a Billie Holiday vibe when I listen to this song. I love the rendition. Very mellow and soothing. I love adding the Brass to the style. Another classic with a very modern interpretation. Thank You.
Her voice has the quality of a muted trumpet. Very much a blend of the smooth voice of Billie and Miles' very simple yet incredibly eye opening trumpet style.
my mind exploded with this the first time I heard it. now that I saw this I am really astonished. those are my favorite songs. i am so glad that this cover exist! if you will be coming to Portugal, please let me know. bless ya
Does anyone know who wrote this arrangement? Apart from the brilliant voice & interpretation of Kat... I love the chord sequence. I think it is the same as The Tornadoes version but I don't remember hearing anyone else using it. It gives the piece a real menacing undertow.
Could someone please tell me exactly how to play the piano part? I have no experience with music theory or playing the piano, but I would like to be able to make this beautiful sound :)
just play b-flat with your right hand pinkie and the chords below are: b-flat, f, b-flat, d / d-flat, a-flat, d-flat, f / and just come down chromatically (semitone by semitone) playing same chords down to b-flat it is fairly easy!
I love the musical arrangement of this version (especially the piano which has an enigmatic edge to it). Kat's voice reminds me of the recently departed Blossom Dearie.
The same but you go up 5 semitones, starting in Eb. No theory needed, just ear training. I'm looking forward to do a cover of this soon, luckily tomorrow if you care to have a look ;) cheers!
Love Kat, but her rendering of this, not so much; it feels a little mannered at the first but I like the finish very much.. As noted, All Hail the Flugelhorn on this joint!!!
the flugelhorn note harmony on "Do-on't" positively and brilliantly makes this an outstanding version.

I like her a lot, but she cannot belt and this song is not a tender one.
