i love when people discover DPR Ian
MITO is when Ian is in his bipolar lows and the Insanity clown god is his highs. At first when Ian debuted he began the MITO story line that has 2 of 3 released which is his debut album Mood Swings In This Order and second album Mood Swings Into Order. This dive into insanity is a vital backstory of what his manic highs are like and leads to why and how MITO came to be. From peanut butter and tears up until don't go insane; these all represent when he switches from manic highs to lows .As we see in don't go insane he already has gone insane and goes into so i danced and begins the chaos of trying to steal the key to the door and carelessly go about his plans which represents how Ian acts when he has those spurts of confidence and when he makes dangerously impulsive decisions in his highs. Which is then disrupted by MITO ;his depression later on when him an insanity go on that whole car chase out of emerald city to the door. The doors in this one and peanut butter and tears are meant to represent different parts of Ians mind that can only be unlocked when dreaming, hence why dear insanity is a letter from MITO telling insanity of the severity of his travels into this part of the mind. Which also delves into The reason to why in one of those comments on the stream that said that MITO is a protector, its because Ian said that Insanity is what brings upon the bi polar switch into MITO as shown in the whole so i danced video. His debut song ' So Beautiful' highlights the essence of the guardian- like beauty of MITO as his role in Ians mind is to save him from insanity by unleashing himself; the depression low bipolar state to control Ian's mind instead, which paradoxically is grounding Ian from the control insanity has in his impulsive actions that don't help Ian at all when dealing with tribulations and traumas of life unlike MITO who whilst scary and dark is still there to help express his deep emotions from traumas and tribulations. Hence, why MITO and Insanity are always fighting and why in the MITO movie Insanity is seen in its initial scenes in the song SERAPH banishing MITO for interfering in Ians mind as this antihero, when Insanity was the one who created him in the first place. This guardian angel role that MITO takes is also further explored in the MITO movie which intricately shows Ians transformation into MITO and shows the beginning of the conflict between MITO and Insanity for ultimate control of Ians mind which is all also here in the dear insanity album songs and videos. The MITO story line still has a 3rd part yet to be released as of yet.

i like your interpretation that mito is actually protecting ian from mr insanity. but i thought that in the move MITO was talking to ian (the god). saying that you created me in your image, now it's time to create mine in yours. i understood form an interview with ian that MITO (lucifer the faller angel) was angry at ian(the god) for rejecting him and labeling him as this bad state he's in, even though MITO is actually is ian's greated creations (like lucifer). i didn't interpret that dialogue to be with mr insanity,because insanity is just another creation of ian
@@ayouspace4780 Yeah, you're right!! I think fans had that theory because Mr. Insanity was called the Clown God but Ian said Mito was first so Mito was definitely talking to Ian, not Mr. Insanity. Plus if Mr. Insanity made Mito, why would he be running from him. I totally agree with you.
Thank you so much! I tried getting to know more about everthing, but I couldn't, because it triggers my BP and decided to stay away from it. You summarized it in a way I can deal with. And even though I'm not able to dive into everything Ian explains it still helped me here and there.

Dpr Ian has bi polar disorder and DID and he portrays it in his music videos and songs! He has created so far 2 characters: MITO and Mr. Insanity!
MITO represents his lows, his dark moments and all his dark memories. You can recognize him by how dark and mysterious he is (he also doesn't have one eye). As dark as MITO is Christian describes him as the protector of his mind. MITO basically tries to protect Christian from his bad memories and from harming himself. MITO is the main topic of Dpr Ian first 2 albums ( "Moodswings in this Order" and "Moodswings into Order"). You will also see him in all his music videos
Mr. Insanity basically represents Christian's manic highs. You will recognize him very easily because he's very colorful and bright. He basically displays Christians impulsive decisions, he's very unapologetic of his actions and doesn't think about how it will affect Ian. This is also why Ian himself said that although MITO is a lot darker and looks a lot more scary, Mr. Insanity is actually a lot more dangerous. Mr. Insanity is introduced for the first time in his song "Mr. Insanity" in his album "Moodswings into Order" but we see him in a music video for the first time in Peanut Butter & Tears (and then also in "So I danced" and “Don’t go insane”)
The Green is the guy in green lmao, we don't know much about him yet (We've only see him in his last 2 music videos, the ones you just watched) From what we've seen so far Mr Green looks like someone who helps Ian out but at the same time goes along with the chaos. We really don't know yet.
I wanna give my 2 cents about the "Don't go insane" mv
I see this mv as it being mostly Ian himself and you can see mr insanity on the verge of taking over. I see the door as the way to Ian's so called "control center" and therefore in my opinion mr. insanity is trying to take over.
Ian has talked about how when he is mr insanity he is usually always there too, like he remembers almost everything, while when he's mito he completely blacks out!
So that is also why I think when it comes to the outfits in didn't quite match to either mito or mr insanity. When he's in the all white suit I believe that's mr insanity & Ian and we know that MITO is the protector of Ian so that's why we can see the black "mist" in his hands in quite a few scenes, which to me portrays mito trying to stop mr insanity from taking over and trying to protect ian
Also him with the "claws" and crazy hair I believe that that is 100% mr insanity! Like that is when mr insanity crosses the line and takes complete control.
Also, when ian is mr insanity he has two different eye colors (red and green) and if you look up the meaning of those 2 colors, you will find that red means danger and courage while green means hope: dangerous hope/courage. And this makes sense because ian said once in a live that when he is mr insanity he has no fears at: Mr. Insanity is basically fearless which can be dangerous to Ian (and that is also why MITO goes against Mr. Insanity

I wanted to let you know that in "Peanut Butter and Tears," you were wondering why DPR IAN decided to use the words "peanut butter" with tears. This is because peanut butter is more of a sweet and comforting food, and DPR IAN used it to show that the sadness from the tears will be comforted. When he sings "My peanut butter and your tears," he means that when you cry, he will be there to comfort you and make you feel better. Maybe as a child he felt like peanut butter was a calming and comfortable feeling food, like in a PB&J. So that means that when he cries, he remembers what it feels like in the good parts of his childhood.

I feel like you would appreciate MITO the movie pt 1. This album is such a masterpiece. DPR IAN is such a genius when it comes to the mv's , I guess he started out doing video work before getting into music himself. Begging you to check out the whole thing there's a number of mv's and visualizers for the whole album, "dear insanity" is actually the first line of the album.
Christian Yu or DPR IAN is an Australian Rapper, Singer and Director. He was a member of a boy group called 'C-Clown'. He directs his own Music Videos. He edits his own Music Videos.
The story is very deep and it connects his whole discography. There are lines in his first album that are related to characters that we just now met.
Basically the different characters are based in Ian's personalities. Mr. Insanity (the clown) is the god of this world. He represents the mania and is very extreme. Mito (the one in black and white), represents his lows. He was Mr. insanity First creation, but he got jealous and become an archangel that wants to destroy Mr. Insanity's creations. But at the same time Ian called Mito his protector. When Mr. insanity is getting too crazy, he stops him. I think that's why in Don't go Insane you can see black smoke coming out of Mr. Insanity. That's Mito trying to take control because he's getting too crazy/dangerous for Ian.
This world is named The Other Side. Is kinda like a dream land, but the longer you stay there, the crazier you get. You will hear this name in lot of his songs. The city in The Other Side is Emerald City, which indeed is a Wizard of Oz reference.
The doors. He stated that he has memories locked in doors inside him and one of those doors is the one that holds the memory that was the trigger for his Bipolar. Which he doesn't remember. And that's what they are searching for.
The Green is Insanity side-kick. We don't know much yet. But we have heard him in previous songs.
As I said his universe it's getting bigger and bigger and there are soooo many connections between all his works. He did a Listening Party in Stationhead and an IG Live where he explained a little bit further the lore this time. I totally suggest you to check one of them. He's a pretty interesting guy and a very good story teller, so listening to him is really pleasant.

I'm so excited for you to be diving into Ian's world. I'm still fairly new to all his music, but it's so brilliant and I'm so happy he's not afraid to speak his truth. Can't wait for you to dive into the MITO album and film.
I only discovered this vid because I listen to Ian. So, MITO is Ian's protector. Whenever Ian has a manic episode and becomes Mr. Insanity MITO tries to take control hence why he blacks out. To stop the mania Ian's mind goes into MITO and as a protection mechanism he cannot remember anything. He does a lot of lives on instagram so you can always listen to him telling his story. Also MITO is portrayed as a dark character durin Dear Insanity because it is Mr Insanity's perception, a negative perception, as someone who is trying to stop him.

He's really open about his mental issues and I think he portrays them wonderfully in the DPR Universe. I think he is the living example of doing the best with everything you've been given. Mito is a trilogy( his low state) and dear insanity which is represented through mr. Insanity ( his high state) is actually a side story of the trilogy. So it will be another album of Mito.
Besides lan himself, there are three main
"characters" in this storyline: Mito, Mr Insanity, and The Hybrid. His first works (1st EP and 1st full album) focused on Mito while his 2nd EP, Dear insanity, focused on Mr Insanity and that's why they're so distinct. He's going to release an EP focused on the Hybrid in a few months. He delayed it so he could make a bigger project. I'm only going to take about Mito and Mr Insanity since they're the ones present here.
Mito and Mr Insanity aren't just characters.
They are real people who have a mind of their own called "alters" (short for alternate state of consciousness) that he coexists with. DID was formerly known as "Multiple Personality Disorder" and the name was changed in 1994 since it didn't accurately represent this disorder. In DID, there's more than one person living in the same body with different memories, voice tone, body language, beliefs, motives, etc. It's not one person with different personalities but multiple people within the same body. But they are still not completely separate and each one of them functions together forming what is called a "system" (how someone with DID may refer to themselves).
DID stems from severe and/or repeated early childhood trauma particularly before 5 years old. As a coping mechanism, the mind of the child unconsciously creates a "new person" that could deal with the trauma for them otherwise it would be unbearable. That way only one or some identities will remember the trauma. That person was Mito.
This prevents the child's mind from fully integrating into one whole identity and instead it becomes multiple distinct identities. A child struck by trauma is like a broken mirror and each fragment, each alter, becomes its own mirror and functions separately but all pieces together complete the whole mirror, their whole system. The cover of lan's first EP, Moodswings In This Order, has his picture behind a shattered glass and the physical version of the same album has a broken mirror on the inside.
Someone with DID only knows this mechanism to cope with trauma: to disassociate and become someone else. So they unconsciously switch between identities as they are exposed to stress and more identities can then be formed throughout their lives. "The Other Side" is the place where the whole story unfolds and represents his consciousness, where these alters exist.
Mito is the "protector alter". He was that person created by the mind to deal with any traumas and to be the one who remembers them so lan can forget.
He is depicted as a fallen angel. This is inspired by the fact that Mito has a lot of biblical knowledge that lan doesn't have. He's religious and marks himself with a cross while lan doesn't even go to church. In DID, different alters have different memory banks, so one alter could know something that the other doesn't. In some cases, alters may be able to speak a language that the others have no knowledge of. He's also represented in MVs by wearing black, with a deep voice, missing an eye, and a ring with an eyeball. The association of Mito with an eye is because the "eye" symbolism is important to lan as a visual director and he recognizes that the best lenses in the world are the eyes. When he switches into Mito and his world flips, it's like he loses one eye. The only Korean word that lan uses in his whole discography (until now) is 'E' (in the song "Mood") which means eye.
lan is the prominent identity, the one who stays the longest in the body (called the "host"). In very stressful situations, lan blacks out and Mito takes control to protect him. This means Mito is "fronting" There is also "co-fronting" meaning more than one alter in control at the same time. Ian will then come back hours, days, or weeks later (the longest has been a month not remembering anything that was said or done. Basically, his life has been lived and he doesn't know how.
Mr Insanity is his manic phase from his bipolar disorder. Mania is a period of euphoria or high irritability, with increased drive and decreased sleep. It can lead to psychosis and exhaustion if left untreated. Psychosis is when there's a break from reality. The person doesn't know what is real and what's not. They start to hallucinate (seeing something that isn't there) or have delusions (believing something that can't be true).
Now about the video, the protagonist of this album is Mr Insanity. This album is all about how Mr Insanity came to be and his journey into "The Other Side". Mr Insanity is usually chaotic and doesn't care about consequences. In the story, there's a door that Mr Insanity's chaotic self is trying to open which represents the traumas. Mito, being the protector, won't let this happen since lan isn't supposed to know anything about it.
The only way to get to "The Other Side" (his consciousness) is through lucid dreamin, which he frequently does in real life. Lucid dreaming is when you know that you're dreaming and can manipulate the places and characters within the dream. In his lucid dreams there are a lot of doors. Going through the wrong door could turn the dream into a nightmare and that's what inspired the "door" analogy.
At the beginning of the video, lan is sitting at the desk writing the letter from his song "Famous Last Words". While lan is sitting, there's also a howl and he mentions 'wolves' in the lyrics: ("Oh, bless my heart / When the wolves take me away"). "Wolves" are a huge symbolism due to werewolf transformation aspect that ties on with his DID switches.
lan doesn't even know he's taking the form of Mr
Insanity. He doesn't know it himself but he's somehow feeling different. Every single time he goes through the doors he loses a bit of his sanity.
He says to himself "I'm sane", and even so, still loses grip on reality. "Don't Go Insane", as the title suggests, is about trying to not go insane while simultaneously, still losing your mind.
In the story, the most advanced version of Mr Insanity is completely blind because he no longer needs to see. He holds the entire universe within himself. This is probably why at the end of this song, right before the bridge, he says "Can't see...”.
Going back to the quill at the beginning, it's used because they wanted to bring the concept of something that goes way back in the past. It means that it dates back to medieval times (not specifically, but just a long time ago). Mr Insanity continuously breaks into these worlds/doors and we don't know for how long he's been there for. About The Green, the green guy, it isn't known yet his role, just that he is Mr Insanity's sidekick.

That teaser actually helped me understand quite a bit. Maybe. 😅 (Getting my thoughts out before finishing the rest of this reaction btw…)
Ian hopes they will let them borrow the car, and The Green hopes someone will love them. The most basic understanding here would be that Ian has an immediate concern and The Green has a concern about the future. (And/or whether Ian will love them.)
Side note: This had me recalling “the grass is greener on the other side.” Ian makes references to “the other side” a lot. Purposeful? Coincidence? 🤷♀️
“So I Danced” also references current complications and generally strange events. Otherwise, I’m not too certain what is occurring. After all, dancing can represent a couple different things. For one, following a sequence of steps could mean staying on track or following instruction. On the other hand, he could be very openly expressing himself (i.e., “how I really feel”), whether manic or not, possibly. Maybe it’s all of the above?
There may not be much more for us to understand. As you said on the previous Ian reaction, Roscoe- he represents and works through his personal experiences through the art he creates. Therefore, it’s arguably not necessary that we comprehend every last bit of it. [And as a big David Lynch fan, I’m cool with some leftover mystery.]
Mr. insanity is Ian on his highs, the episodes where he feels like a "god" and is reckless.
MITO is his protector, Ian has called him as such.
MITO is when he's at his lowest.
MITO tries to stop Mr. insanity from causing harm to other and Ian himself.
His last album and songs prior to that are just amazing with great videos. There’s a prequel to no blueberries that’s also fantastic and 3 song movie for the last album that he did where the whole album is just amazing

So Ian himself said that the green guy represents his former group C-Clown basically a clown.
The green as a symbolic supporting character is as you said, the uncredited background character "we" can't see. Mr insanity in white is Ian's other side. Mito (dark) is the dominant, and suppresses all other alter egos. This is symbolic by the keys which we can assume unlock access to Ian's current personality at any given time/day. It's a struggle for control. Mito hunts down and suppresses all other alter egos to remain in control. In the beginning, Mito (dark) is writing a letter to Mr insanity (white), as he feels he's about to change persona's and lose dominance. Hence, the letter Dear Mr. Insanity... Mito has suppressed this side of him for a long time, but is again coming to fruition. Mito does not like this, and it becomes a tug of war to regain control and be the 'dominant'.
Mr. Insanity is reminiscing of when he was the dominant, and how he was shunned and exiled (buried). This is probably symbolic to an earlier age in his life. Mr. Insanity coming back to life only to be burned at the stake by the others (pinks/red), is also symbolic. The green, the invisible to us hero saved him. And now, he's running and seeking a way to become the current personality of Ian. Hence, the heist for the keys and Mito hunting him down to prevent this.
This is just an observation form the outside. He's done several IG lives that go deep into the lore. So this assumption may be wrong is jjust from what I've gathered as a normal spectator.

If you decide that you want to go on a journey and an entire experience for an analysis for an album, DPR live the any is anybody out there? Album is probably one of my most favorite albums of all time, and to this day from start to finish the feelings are everywhere. It puts me in a roller coaster ride of emotions. From the very first song, “here goes nothing” to the very last song “no rescue needed”. It is an experience and a journey of someone being completely lost to not needing to be found. In fact, I have a medical condition that can make pregnancy dangerous, and Geronimo. That song is the reason that I had my third kid and I made that jump. To this day that will always have a very important special place in my heart, and so will the song welcome to the other side by DPR. That song got me through some really tough stuff when my son was born. You’re definitely on the right path. These guys are amazing and if you need it, their music can definitely get you through some hard stuff.
DPR Ian's albums are ones I listen to in the order they are given because each one takes you on a specific journey. If you listen to all the albums in a row it's just a beautiful story to listen to. I highly suggest you give it a shot in your own time. Thank you for continuing to listen to him and try to figure out the deep lore.

He is so talented it is crazy! I genuinely love every song he's put out so far and that is almost impossible. His storytelling is unreal and so unique. How can you not love this man?! And he is so good live, he just fills the stage like no other. And the production... nothing more to say
I enjoy his music and videos so much. One thing is for sure, you can tell if a song was written on a high or a low! I hope he is doing well, I pray for him constantly.

- Mood Swings In This Order, 1st album, is the sinking and fear of going into that depressive state (manic low). Mito (personification of his lows) coming forward and taking over.
- 2nd album, Moodswings In To Order, (arguably the best album ever) is very heavily Mito in control but with a slight shift towards the end with the manic lows ending but manic highs (Mr. Insanity) coming. Mr. Insanity being first mentioned near the end of the album. the visuals of the MITO film are highly needed in understanding this album to its fullest !

Mr. Insanity does not care what happens and is truly just that, insane and chaos. he is manic high. Mito despite the live comments, Mito being the manic lows, depressive identity, though darker, he is the identity that truly does protect Ian the most. Which is why you see him chasing and trying to stop Mr.Insanity from reeking chaos. He maybe be darker but he is the “protector” of Ian as opposed to the other identity. (fun thing, Mr. Insanity’s look is very clown like as a tribute to Ian’s previous kpop group C-Clown that he was in prior to starting DPR)
I'm only halfway through the vid so maybe this is mentioned, but he talks about leaving running water at home in So I Danced. Part of Mito's symbology is water and Mito is the protector - he left Mito at home during his manic phase and wasn't protected from the self destructive behaviour.

- First album (MITO aka Mood Swings In This Order) videos: So Beautiful, No Blueberries (which you already saw), Scaredy Cat, and Welcome to the Show. He has a "Memories in Disorder documentary" about the process behind creating characters and recording the album, which is a really helpful video and fairly quick to watch.
- Second album (MIITO aka Mood Swings In To Order) just has one video! It's a montage short film and has a ridiculously long title, but it's the one that's just under 8 minutes long and has an orange-ish thumbnail.
A LITTLE LORE INFO DUMP! Feel free to ignore if the block of text is just Too Much, but I think it might be helpful!
CHARACTERS:
- Mito = representation of depression, a fallen angel, the rebellious creation of a clown god. Easily recognized by one blind eye and black smoke. In "No Blueberries," Ian summons him by lighting a flame to help fight the Blueberry Monster.
- Mr. Insanity = representation of mania, pretty sure he's the clown god mentioned in my last point ^^^, represented by butterflies & fireflies & pink/bright colors (to contrast with Mito)
- The Green = He's from The Other Side, which is the place that Mito and Mr. Insanity come from. Buddies with Mr. Insanity, but I don't think we know much more other than that because he's fairly new!
- Ian = "the default" in DPR IAN's words, a human from our world who gets tied up in all the nonsense from The Other Side. I can't remember if we have confirmation of it, but he might have been created by Mr. Insanity and/or Mito? There's a lot that's left up to our interpretation as of right now, which is fun.
- Scaredy Cat = a representation of anxiety, often trapped somewhere...we need a bit more info on him because he's only in a couple videos (Scaredy Cat, Don't Go Insane, and maybe the MIITO short film). I personally conflated him with Ian for a long time, but it seems like he might be a separate character.
MITO was the caracter Ian first introduced in 'So Beautiful', as he describes his depressive state, depersonalization and black outs.
MITO has since then became a comfortable character for him because a new character has been born, in his worst, most low state of depression (he is not confident enough to show him yet).
Mr. Insanity is his character during the manic phases, the three music videos that he released with this album are in reverse order: 1st is 'Don't go insane', then 'So I danced' and the last is 'Peanut butter and tears', where Ian opens the door (that Mr. Insanity opened with the key) and in that video he shows his manic phases as something that has always happened and are connected with the depressive episodes and different states in between. The three videos show how the bipolar disorder works for him, with the various caracters fighting for the spotlight and how he is just in the middle of everything, trying to have control over his life. The Green is us, Dreamers, his fans, helping him, and the pink dudes are society.
I would absoluetly love if you checked out his albums there are only 3 and they are not that long but tell soooo much of the story lyric wise and music wise. DPR Ian is a genius that should be fully apreciated. I definietly think you will grasp the story if you start from the beggining and keep the back story about Ian in mind.

I think Dark hair Ian is the Ian we know, pink people are society keeping him in the norm, the pink haired black and white is Mr. insanity and the green guy is the part of him thats trying to keep him sane that helps him navigate through the differet parts of himself

Since I've only recently gotten into the lore of this can someone explain to me why Mito is trying to hurt Ian? Like, Mito is his protector from the trauma no? Or is that something that hasnt been explained yet. I understand Mito and Mr Insanity fighting but Im not sure why Ian keeps getting attacked xD
So I've been checking him out for a while now, but I'll try to explain as best as I can because there are layers to his work. So this is going to be long, just a heads up. (If you've already figured this out, you can totally ignore this, it's fine). This is just about the So I Danced mv.
Okay so Ian has both bipolar disorder and dissociative identity disorder. We know that bipolar disorder deals with a chemical imbalance in the balance where a person experiences manic highs and manic lows. Dissociative identity disorder is a condition that is caused by trauma during childhood where the child is still at the developmental stage of integrating their personalities. Because they are unable to handle this trauma, what happens is that alters or altered states of states of consciousness are developed. When alters come into existence they are there as a protection mechanism to help the core self handle their daily lives in a way. For example, the core self would not remember the trauma they went through because one of the alters has those memories.
With regards to someone having D.I.D and bipolar, I'm not really familiar with the topic in terms of reading up on someone having the two but I'll try to explain it from what I know of what Ian has talked about. So Mito is the alter that 'fronts' during the times that Ian has his manic lows. During that time he blacks out and isn't aware of what's going on because he is not present. People can use the phrase "doesn't remember" and I get what they mean but it's like he's asleep during those moments. And there are more things regarding fronting in general but I don't want to make this post too long.
Mr. Insanity is Ian's manic high. Now I don't think Insanity is an alter because he said he doesn't blackout and he mention that he is Insanity because of his manic highs. it's just that he doesn't recognise himself when he's in that state. From this we can tell that Mito and Mr. Insanity are always opposing each other.
In the storyline we see Mito trying to k*ll Insanity, not Ian (it's best to see it as a metaphor). So although So I Danced was released before Don't Go Insane and then Don't Go Insane's teaser was released afterwards I believe, the storyline order is actually in a different order - it's from Don't Go Insane -> Don't Go Insane teaser -> So I Danced. We know that Ian has disguised himself and when he enters Emerald City he becomes more like his manic high self therefore becoming more like Insanity plus there's the influence of Insanity from Don't Go Insane. He's planning a heist and this will set Insanity to full gear because I'm sure he's been itching to do this for a long time. And Mito can't have that because that can cause problems for Ian. This is because while being a protector alter, I believe Mito is also a trauma holder as well. He is the mayor of Emerald City and was right on time when Insanity was robbing the bank of the other side. Insanity wants to find a key to unlock a certain door and Mito can't let that happen.
So now we get to a bit of theory/real life stuff that Ian has explained. He has said that he lucid dreams and in his dreams are doors. He has also dreamt of Emerald City. Emerald City in the storyline represents that lucid dreaming and is part of The Other Side or Ian's subconscious. I could be wrong but lucid dreaming could also represent the inner world for Ian as well (which is what the mind creates as a place that the alters reside). Mito is the one who wants to protect Ian's subconscious like repressing memories because it can be a hard thing for someone to deal with if they are exposed to those memories without the proper care involved. Insanity however because he's so unhinged, wants to explore all over and basically open those doors that Mito has closed. Mito knows that this would be harmful for Ian. While for storytelling telling sakes it looks like Mito is trying to kill Insanity it's more of a metaphor in showing how they are opposing sides in his subconscious because of the involvement of his bd.

@@wonshikie8153 From what I understand of the storyline and what Ian has talked about as well, I think initially Ian saw Mito as the enemy because if we look at it in a real life context - Ian prefers when he's high rather than low. But he understands that Mito is actually a protector alter that fronts when Ian goes through his lows (or there could be some other trouble going on). So it's important to note that Mito doesn't cause the harm, he's there to protect Ian from it or to feel the consequences of that harm because he can handle it. I know as we go along more in the story (I'm already updated to Saint mv), we can always find more information and look back on the earlier stuff as well.
But anyways Mood and Ribbon are going to give us hints as to well - Mito did not stab Ian (still, theory disclaimer here anyways). This is because of the voices in his head. In Mood, Ian is dipping and about to take the pills when the voices warn him not to. Ian knows he doesn't like to be at his low state and the intention was to take the pills and get to a sense of equilibrium. There's another hint that's something is not quite right when the pills are in colour when he's in black and white (for symbolism's sakes ofc). However when he takes the pills, the colours are more vibrant than usual. That is because the pills didn't work as intended and Ian has ended up in a hypomania state which is less intense than mania. And if we think about it, who is the one character who would prefer that? Insanity.
Now in between Mood and Ribbon, Ian no longer hears the voices and wonders what they're afraid of. The voices are quiet because the pills are working in a sense but working in a wrong sense. When Ian gets stabbed he’s pulled out of hypomania and back into the here and now of reality.Then he gets stabbed and we see a quick cut to Insanity holding something (I have no idea what it is anyways). If something in DPR Ian’s mvs makes anyone think or second guess or make you have a lightbulb moment, then it’s Ian putting that there with a purpose in mind. So when it flashes to Insanity and then we’re like questioning it, it makes me think that Insanity probably had something to do with Ian being stabbed because he knows Mito will front to take on that pain. This is because highs and lows, Insanity and Mito, will always be at odds with each other.
And it kind of seems strange that Insanity would put Ian in danger too because Insanity usually just wants to explore without boundaries and be free in a sense. I don’t know how much info you have as yet, however this seems like Insanity at his peak/worse (and it’s hinted at in the Seraph mv and at the end of Miito movie part 1) because it’s never a good thing when manic highs go to extremes.
From mind-diagnostics: “While from the outside, mania may sound like something desirable, in reality, manic episodes can be very dangerous. When a person is manic, they are not totally in control, so they often neglect to care for themselves or make rash, impulsive decisions. Manic episodes could also make someone irritable, potentially ready to snap at anyone who gets in the way of their grandiose plans.”
