The rule of the road in Sweden was keep left until 1967. The line to Angared was, however, built shortly AFTER the rule was changed to keep right. The left hand running on this line is explained by the need for single-ended cars with doors only on the right to serve the island platform at the underground Hammarkullen station. A similar situation exists in Zurich on a section of routes 7 and 9. I believe there is another similar line in Volgograd.
The main reason it was built with island platforms and running on the left was that it was supposed to be converted into a metro in the future. But the rest of the metro project was cancelled because funding from the national government was cut. If you look at the footage from the Hammarkullen station, there is a slope at the end of the platform, between where the escalators are (at metro height) to the actual platform (at tram height).
I will truly miss the classic M28 and M29 trams when they will get taken out of service. I'm amazed how reliable they have been throughout its lifespan
9:30 The reason there is a slope down to the platform from the escalator area is because it was built to metro standards, this line was supposed to be converted to a metro but the project was cancelled. So the platform was never raised and the slope got to stay permanently.
gave video, geinig dat de trams van rechts naar links spoor wisselen, ik denk dat het met de perrons in de tunnels te maken heeft. vroeger reed het autoverkeer links, ik denk dat die tunnels voor die tijd gemaakt zijn..
i'm obsessed with loop-and-swoop trams and consider an insult in the name of every one-direction tram to run two-direction trams on loop-and-swoop lines (exept for those which have island platform stops as well without side changes)
The reason for the bi-directional trams here (M33B model) is that the city is planning for future extensions that can be built without loops. So while the B variant seems out of place right now, it's good to have it when the need arises.
Love the oldies on Route 3 .

Those older trams in the 3xx series are quite interesting. They do look rather chubby viewed from the front 🐹

@@enemixius this is the most serious crime that can be committed, outrageous. Loop and swoop is tram, anything else can be just tram-like
