It looks like the tomatoes against the wall are floating, they are on top of mysterious barrels, in a small dark room on display like they are being sold there but the entire theme of the room and the other objects within it seem off, something doesn't add up and THAT is what makes it a cursed image
Exactly, I feel a lot of "cursed images" are not "cursed" because they seem too intentional, the cursed images that we definitely see as cursed images are ones that are from somewhere unknown, something undefined, somethinh in between what we know and what we don't know and not just some weird meme. As the other guy said, Uncanny Valley is the best example of this. But now the whole thing as other mass-exposure subreddits, has devolved into a new type of meme culture full of shit. I wonder whether or not this has a bearing in my impression of meme culture if there is a "meme culture".
it also has to be obscure, almost as if it lives in its own relm, its own bubble. a good rule of thumb is how close does it look to being found footage that can probably never be found?
I feel like part of what makes a cursed image is the lighting. There's rarely any shadows or highlights in a cursed image; the lighting is pretty much uniform for the entire picture.
To me, in order for an image to count as a "cursed image", it has to horrify or disturb, but in a subtle or vague way. If the image is unsettling and you can't quite put your finger on why, is unsettling or disturbing in an unconventional way, or is overall disturbing but composed of elements that wouldn't normally be disturbing by themselves, I'd say it counts as "cursed".
Shrimp Bisque Like the guy above me said, yes they have to be kinda funny as well. But I’m gonna add to your original comment with,”unsettling and disturbing without being overtly horrifying”.
Shrimp Bisque Id say theres kinda three main rules: 1: its a photo 2: You immediately question "Who, what, where, when, why?" but theres no clear answer 3: its unsettling, but only slightly
I'm getting sucked into your eyeballs watching this Justin! They look like flowing jelly with this lighting setup. Unnerving, but somehow appropriate at the same time! Great vid!
A cursed image feels like the image has an innate “unnerving sense of something being out of place” and automatically invokes concerned thoughts/ideas on how/when/where/why that image was made. Plenty of genuine cursed images feel cursed, haunted by the individuals within the image, by those that made it, or by people or forces surrounding the origin of the contents of the photo. A good cursed image makes you feel like something is looking at you looking at the image. The definition of a cursed image is obtuse and vague, but the concept of fear is universal.
Why is the image of the tomato farmer cursed? Who? A farmer. What? Displaying his harvest of tomatoes. Where? A small farm. When? After a harvest of tomatoes. Why? Proud of his harvest of tomatoes.
I think what makes an image cursed is not only the content of the image, but the way it's shot as well. The lighting and framing in that farmer pic make the viewer feel uncomfortable, as a cursed image should. Cursed images have an energy to them that's really hard to describe, but should at the very least make its viewer uncomfortable as can be.
A cursed image has to typically have an air of mystery about it, your first reaction should be to study it, looking for answers, but to ultimately come up with none. It should make you want to ask the person who took it for context. From here, there are many sub-classes of cursed images, but that's the general idea. Edit: oh, it was covered in the vid.

I would have to say that I always thought the “rules” of the cursed images subreddit were basically that the image shown had to make you question the context of how the image happened, why it happened, where it happened, what happened, and otherwise just have no explanation for any of that from the image alone. It can be made up of random components put together, it can be what most would consider a coherent image, but it just needs to have no clear-cut context for why the events in the image exist. True, but even more of a problem is someone being stupid and superstitious enough to call anything cursed. The very notion smacks of primitive ignorance.
@@thedude4672 what's even more of a problem is that there's people who think when something is called "cursed" the people labeling it as "cursed" actually think it's cursed and not just saying "cursed" as an alternative way of calling it unsettling or creepy; I mean, you could be one of those people or you could be actually referring to overly superstitious morons, I don't know! but I am willing to wager on the former possibility.

Believe it or not Facebook groups are by far the best source of cursed/absurd/important/powerful/vague images.
Reddit is a shit source and 4chan occasionally has good threads.
If you know of any other good sources please let me know!
I’ve been subbed to your channel for a long time and I just wanna say I love your content! You the man!
Cursed images have to be rare and give a perfect feeling. The guy with the tomato’s is probably the best cursed image for that reason.
........weird that I come across this vid just as Cursed_Judge steps down. I guess it tells the story well enough. c:
We need a reboot of Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction with Whang! as the host if they can't get Jonathan Frakes back.
"Cursed Images Set To Splatterhouse Music" seems to work just as well as Earthbound music.
I was practicing eye contact with this video, and while I was staring deeply into the windows of your soul I blinked in perfect sync with one of your video cuts where you switched from leaning to the right (your left) to the left (your right) and I had a very brief moment of "Oh my god what the fuck just happened?" and just as quickly as that feeling arrived, it had dissipated when I saw you do another cut and switch back from leaning to the left, back to leaning to the right. Figured I may share that little moment with you.
This DISTINCTLY reminds me of how r/ambien was a genuinely endearing little subreddit of people saying goofy things because of sleep meds but then tumblr discovered it and started making shitposts there. I think it's recovered from that Incident but it's still sad
I'm a simple man, I see the photo of our lord and savior Rich Evans, I click.
yeeeess perfect timing, just finished work :)
to me a cursed image is 75% the lighting.
Yes
I know this is ridiculous, but when that music at 13:26 kicked in, my heart broke a little lol. I know you use FF music in a lot of your videos but that really hit me. Reminded me of a simpler time...Love your videos Whang. Big fan
I love your content, and I am seriously amazed at how you manage to deliver comedy in seriousness. You are an artist to say the least.
I feel like Whang! Himself has an effect on the resurrection of something in the interwebs
The fact that we treat this like it's a big deal is both amusing and sad at the same time.
Quick, somebody take a screenshot of Whang's cursed eyes and post it to r/cursedimages
This is why the subreddit has fallen
the curse of the ring light
More like r/BlursedImages
(images that are simultaneously blessed and cursed)
@@DandelionYudeul it was dead from the start dude. People just hate to admit when a concept isn't good.
I like that Rich Evan's arm is in the thumbnail but not the rest of him.
I keep getting distracted while staring at the ring light reflection in your eyes.
Here's the real problem with cursedimages.
They are subjective.
Your pfp is one hell of a cursed drawing.
True, but even more of a problem is someone being stupid and superstitious enough to call anything cursed.
The very notion smacks of primitive ignorance.
@@thedude4672 what's even more of a problem is that there's people who think when something is called "cursed" the people labeling it as "cursed" actually think it's cursed and not just saying "cursed" as an alternative way of calling it unsettling or creepy;
I mean, you could be one of those people or you could be actually referring to overly superstitious morons, I don't know! but I am willing to wager on the former possibility.
@@damiancampbell7534 Oh yeah like that fucking farmer pic was cursed. Totally universal cursedness with a regular ass farmer with his normal tomatoes. Admit it is and always will be subjective what cursed is, I really doubt anyone saw that first post as such. And r/cursedimages now and forever will never live up to the actual standards of being cursed because it's standards are still way too low.
See, this is why im not worried about the post apocalyptic post war.
Is because people like this will come together and create civilization again.
These are the people who will start their very own diomand city.
shieldmaiden arreh *diamond
whang doesnt mention rich evans covering his photo
rich evans doesnt realize hes a meme
what a world
Spotted the bear from Red Letter Media's Rich Evans' birthday party in your thumbnail 😆
The fact that it looks like you have two different styles on your mustache is the most cursed thing in this video
