I've read this book three times. First back in the 80's when I worked at a bookstore simply because it had such a unique title. I laugher may ass off. Recommended it to my brothers and they read it and loved it. Today we still exchange quips from the book and get a laugh. His other book, THe Neon Bible was really good as well.
One of my favorite books ever, It is everything that Walker Percy writes in the foreword & then some. It really did get published because he agreed to read it & found it brilliantly funny, which it is. Thanks to Irene Reilly’s tenaciousness & nerve. No matter what she says, Thelma Toole IS Irene Reilly!

I'm glad she had it published. It must have been devastating for her when her son committed suicide, now he lives on through his book.
What a great mother, it is such an incredible book, I wish he had known how loved it would be by many of us. Brovo to both
