I think that this is the best spy movie made in the English language. I has not seen the movie until 1993, but I did read the MAD Magazine satire, no part of which I understood. It also adheres closely to the novel.
@@joemorrisseyistheboomer4321 I was not aware of her jealousy or her insecurity in either of those two cases. Bloom later married Ro Steiger, they appeared together in The Illustrated Man [1969].
I have a hard time with the The Illustrated Man although I did work briefly for Ray Bradbury's theatre company. Nice man as you might imagine. As for Claire Bloom - always thought she was great. Check out THE OUTRAGE with her and Paul Newman. I've mentioned it briefly in other vids but I'll probably do a full piece on it early next year.
Burton was immense here. And brilliant cinematography from a young Director..
I thought he was great!

I'd love to see the MAD magazine parody of this movie. Always loved those.
In real life Bloom and Burton were involved prior to Burton's marriage to Liz Taylor.
Yes, and apparently Taylor watched over him like a hawk as she did when he co-starred opposite Ava Gardner in The Night Of The Iguana.

@@joemorrisseyistheboomer4321 Yep, seem THE OUTRAGE many years ago.
No comments? Hard to believe.
LOL. Well, thanks for the above comment.
