My pack is usually 30 to 35 lbs but it's up a little over 40 when I bring prospecting stuff too. That trip I brought back packing and hunting gear in then made a second trip for all my gold prospecting gear and yes I did manage to pack in a folding chair because I knew I was going to be there for a number of days and it was worth the weight sitting around the camp fire at night and I hunted with it out of a ground blind I set up.
+Robert Bridge I'm sorry Robert I forgot to mention, I use the Gander Guide series self inflating ground mat for sleeping. It's very light and you can blow it up to get a little added comfort. I'd rolls up very tight and easily mounts to the side of my pack.
I know exactly where you are in this video. Uwharrie is so small. :D You ever want a buddy to mine the area then let me know. I may know a couple special spots in uwharrie far away from Moccasin creek. :)
Dwight Campbell No there is no permit required to prospect or camp. In most areas there is a restriction and you have to dig within the banks of the creeks and no mechanical or suction devises are allowed. There are some areas that you can dredge but I'm not sure of where they are.
Honestly I've done a good bit of hunting and prospecting both on the north and south side of Moccasin Creek Rd and have found gold and seen deer from both sides. No Name Creek runs close to the road and along the road to the south so there are more prospectors and horses there. I prefer to hunt the north side of the road.

So if I wanted to hike around the creeks in uwharrie and look for gold does that require a permit? I don't have equipment just an eye lol
