Shepard said during an interview that his fellow astronauts referred to him, Mitchell, and Roosa as the "three rookies" seeing as they didn't consider Shepard's first flight to be a significant mission. Listening to this tape though, they sound as cool and calm as can be. These gentleman were born for this.
@Jean Hugues Cernan had already flown on 10 and his next assignment would be on a back-up crew. Where Shepard big footed everyone was after being restored to flight status he did not serve on a back up crew. Gordon Cooper was basically knocked completely out of the "queue" to make room for Deke's friend. Cooper had been the back-up commander on Apollo 10 but was then left high and dry. As we know Cernan got his chance down the line.....on a better J mission to boot!
the tapes were on two separate digital audio files which are, I am guessing, straight from the masters. The fact that the second part is on the same track as TLI I think means there has been limited tampering with the content. It might have been cleaned for noise
Great stuff, I've only ever heard the onboard tapes of 13 & 17 so this was a very nice surprise indeed! Thanks for all that you do LM5, we are truly spoiled!
This might be some of the best video of a launch of a Saturn 5 in the series is unbelievable how clearly you can see the interstage and launch escaped tower separate and fall back to Earth
Have a look for Moonwalk One, that’s got great footage of the Apollo 11 launch, stage and skirt sep followed by tower jettison is really cool. The footage was also cleaned up for the recent Apollo 11 movie, which was glorious!
Absolutely awesome to hear this audio after more then half-a-century. Like the cleaned up video as well. Saw this live as a 14- year-old. Thanks very much!
Came here after seeing the CST-100 Starliner FINALLY conduct a successful test flight with its successful landing at White Sands Space Harbor and before I watch "Top Gun: Maverick".
Awesome piece of history - thanks LM5 ! Really funny hearing Shepard (?) comment on how perfect the trajectory was - "I feel like I should be doing something here..." That scary feeling when things seem to be going *too* good...
@@JeffGR4 Cool - thanks for the clarification... really made me laugh hearing him say that... very much an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it..." moment.
It truly concerned me when 14 had the Docking problem with the Lem. I was so hopeing that it would not be a problem at lunar Rondevoue when the Astronauts left the moon.
On this channel I click the like button even before watching the actual ideo. I am simply sure it will be a treat. And once again I was proven right! 🙂 Thanks, LM5, for your excellent work!
Thank you for these few minutes of reality! It's very much appreciated! That's how we saw the Apollo program when it was happening, not the glamorized, fantasized version the media, and NASA, feeds our children. I had a 45 of John Glenn's Mercury flight, just his and ground control's voices, which NASA made available to anyone who could send them a dollar and 5 cents postage.
Compare this magnificent piece of history compared to the silly “productions” they make launches nowadays. Much more impressive to listen to those that are doing rather than a spokesperson.
Jack King was the best ever voice of KSC Launch Control. None of his successors have ever come close to his level of professionalism. Current day launch commentary is inane in comparison.
I have posted the ones that have been released so far..Apollo 12, 13 and 17 are the other launch ones currently available and can be found on this channel

Absolute gem! This is what the internet was made for! Love it
Just amazing. You do a great service to the public by preserving these recordings for future generations, LM5.
Absolutely well-preserved audio tapes the quality is good

That's the onboard tapes during the launch, forgot to specify that.
Welcome Ricky, glad it's filled a gap
4:25 “keep our eyes in the cockpit troops”. Al Shepherd keeping his crews minds on the job rather than out of the window. Love it
Love the Pete Conrad intro! Whooopeee!
Love it when people notice the intros!

Apollo 14 has always been one of my favorites. Thank you for posting this!
Love how all of them were chilled out but giddy while experiencing a Saturn V ascent, pretty neat how you can get used to that during training!
It's called professionalism, truly lost in today's world.
@@toomanyhobbies2011 No one is good at their jobs?! What a ludicrous comment!

Well done, LM-5!
Always good to hear Big Al on top of a rocket!
Thanks Thomas
Always great to see these being found. Another very important piece of the Apollo puzzle. This crew was greatly reserved!
Thanks mate! And lovely to see you back commenting
Nice to see you!

I don't think was Shepard stating that
That was CMP Stu Roosa saying that.

Very cool to hear this😊. Dont think I've ever heard it

Great!!!
playing with rudimentary physics may get us out in the neighborhood, but we need to think very differently to actually get anywhere
Nice
Thanks
So I guess NASA didn't learn a thing from Apollo 12 about the dangers of launching into overcast.
They held for a shower that went over the pad for quite a while and launched when it got far enough away.
How about the Audio of Jack King.
?
I think max is referring to the first few seconds of the audio. I smiled also as his voice came on. Thanks for posting this! Another great job LM5!!!

Are they’re more onboard launch or reentry tapes? This one and 8’s reentry are great to listen to.

Why does the first minute of flight look so dark?
It was a bad weather day at the Cape, with a storm front that held the count for 40 minutes.
Might be a small f-stop on the camera to keep the glare from the f-1s under control...
@@lunarmodule5 I like that explanation better, thanks!
